So after that feedback, I decided to redo the lascannons on the wingtips entirely. It's taken a while, and a lot of trial and error since I was just making it up as I went along, but here we go!

I'm also considering extending the nose - I've made a mock-up out of cardboard and photoshopped it a similar grey so it doesn't stick out so much.

Thoughts? Should I extend the nose, or leave it as is?

It looks good. The new nose really makes it look like a new aircraft. My only problem would be the weapon mounts on the wings. If the plane needs to hover, those weapons would be unusable.

@Barzam: Thanks! Yeah, that issue with the weapons on the wingtips did occur to me, but I figure the main weapon it'd be using when it hovers is the assault cannon. I'm happy to keep the lascannons as a fly-by shooty thing, heh. Also, rule of cool.

Altho now I'm tempted to make the lascannons on the wingtips with a swivel thing to fix that issue... hmm.

Ooh very nice indeed! The lasguns do indeed look very cool and the extended nose is awesome.

@Commander Cain: Thank you!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So I decided to go with the nose extension, and after five different cardboard mock-ups to figure out measurements, I've finally made the actual plasticard extension!

In-progress shot of nose construction:

Base nose construction done:

Seams filled with greenstuff:

Just waiting for the greenstuff to dry, then I'll tidy it up and sand it down. Once that's done, I think it'll finally be ready to start painting!

Oh, and making the base. Planning on doing something like this! I've already got the plexiglass to use for the broken ice.

So after all that fiddling, I think I've finally completed the modifications on my Storm Talon! I moved the emblem on the nose down a bit to help cover the seam, added lights and sensor package things to the front, and added rivets to the nosecone and the lascannons on the wings. I'll finally be able to start priming and painting this puppy!

Showing off the moving bits: hinged cockpit canopy, 90 degree depression/360 degree rotation on the assault cannon, and movable tail landing gear! (though the last is a little redundant now since I raised the assault cannon into the nose, whoops. )

Also got a bit more painting done on Jahi! Still trying to figure out how best to shade black, bleh. Long way to go yet!

As always, comments and feedback are welcome!

I saw oen guy use Agrax Earthshade for shading black, and it looked pretty sweet! could be worth a try, hm?

@Kepora: Agrax earthshade is probably a bit too warm of a shade for what I'm going for on this model - though I could probably get a similar effect from using the blue wash instead, hmm...

Right now, I've used black primer, then a few thin layers of Fenris Grey, washed with black wash to darken it down again, then highlighted some edges with Shadow Grey and White. I think I need to go back to the Fenris Grey step again though, heh. Ah well, I'll get it eventually!

A bit more progress on Jahi!

I think I'm just about done with the black, at least for now! Still got a fair bit more to do, but he's getting there.

I've also been experimenting with making another weapon - this time with an engraved blade. Started off with a thick piece of plasticard roughly cut to shape, then cut out two thin pieces and cut out the area where I wanted the engraving to go and glued them on:

Then filled in the area with greenstuff and used a pin to engrave stuff - in this case "Scientia". XD

Once the greenstuff's dried, then I can go about carving the blade to its proper shape. However, I've decided that the plasticard I started with for this one is too thick, 'cause the blade is ending up thicker than I want. So I'm scrapping this one and starting again with thinner plasticard next time. Still, this general method should work. Trial and error!

You mean a Land Raider Achilles? Never really thought about it before, to be honest! Maybe at some point in the future, but I've still got a Land Raider Helios to put together and paint eventually though.

Another project I'm working on - Chapter Master Akil Amari! Right now, I've only used blu-tak to do a (very rough!) test of the helmet adjustments, hair, and chest scarab. Blu-tak is surprisingly useful for this kind of thing, I've found! I'm waiting for some Milliput to arrive before I start actually sculpting.

The green parts are where I've had to fix bubbles/mold slip, bleh.

And this is the start of the blade that will become his weapon! The glaive is gonna be named Ahemait, which is a variation on "Ammit", the soul-eater. I figure it's an appropriate name for a force weapon.

Finally got my milliput in and have been playing with it! Used straight up milliput first, then tried a 50/50 milliput/greenstuff mix. Adding the greenstuff makes the milliput easier to work with, I think! Gonna hafta wait until it dries to see how hard it is and how well it sands down.

So here's the current state of Chapter Master Akil Amari - missing his right hand atm, I'll need to sculpt that once I've finished the rest of the weapon.

And a better view of the blade on Ahemit:

Still a lot of tidy up to do, but progress has been made!

veyr nice work! tell me, in what order did you mix the GS and Milliput components? I've tried it before, but every time it just turns into a mess. D:

@Kepora: Thank you!

I got out all four pieces of greenstuff and milliput components, made sure they were all about the same size. Mixed the greenstuff together first, as normal, for a couple of minutes. Mixed the millput together for a few minutes, making sure there were no streaks.

Then I mixed the two together until there were no more streaks of different colour - then kept mixing it for a couple of minutes more. XD

... and then it's mostly hidden by another part of the model. /facepalm

Ah well. After the completion of the hand and glaive with parchment strips, and the addition of the book, I think this guy's just about ready for paint now! As always, comments and feedback are welcome!

Some more progress!

I'm experimenting with the gold at the moment, using a purple wash as well as a brown wash to shade it. Still need to finish highlighting the gold, using a lighter gold and silver. I think I also need to work on the red some more, darken the shadowed areas back down again.

Opinions?

Hey guys, I could really use some feedback on this fellow! I'm getting closer to finishing him, though I still need to do a lot more work on his glaive and cloak, work on the gold areas some more, fix up a few other small details I've missed, then add all the freehand stuff.

I'm also considering building him a bigger base that I can slot this one into - I'm just not sure exactly what to do with it.

Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Stellar work, as always! I'm amazed every time by how the end result looks like an official model rather than a converted one, which shows your skill with green stuff and plasticard I think

Any chance of the Corvidae sharing what they have seen in your army's future?

Ahh, thank you! I'm especially pleased with the hand holding the glaive, since that was entirely greenstuff!

As for the Corvidae... heh, funny you say that. Akil up there is Corvidae! He says the paths of the future are myriad and unclear, but he's catching glimpses of...fast-moving things. Perhaps bikes, perhaps assault marines, maybe even a talon of storms in crimson and white. Hints of a Land Raider, a sword of shadows, maybe a couple of Deimos chassis that could be either Rhinos or Predators... some terminator armour in either grey or crimson... and looming in the distance, a grand knight of the Imperium.

Time will tell!

That's simply amazing dude. Congrats!

The powerfist holding his helmet is a great touch, and really outlines the size of such fists/weapons

Probably the only suggestion I have is to paint the base sides black. I imagine a lot of work went already into it, but i feel the contrast would be way better.

Anyway, just nitpicking really... Keep 'em coming!

@ciuncky: Thank you! I can't claim credit for the powerfist with helmet though, that's just how the original model came! And yeah, I get the suggestion to paint the base trim black a lot, but I want to keep the trim as it is because I plan on making a snow/ice display board for these guys, and I want their bases to blend in with the board.

On to my next project! Right now I'm kind of bouncing between a few different things until I settle on what to focus on next. Here's one of the things I'm playing with at the moment:

Experimenting with a bit of true-scaling, along with making a few robed characters for my pre-Heresy Sons army. This is still very rough, I need to do more greenstuff work on him, especially around the torso/waist area. Also going to add the usual book hanging from a chain around the waist thing. Here's a size comparison with some regular marines:

I'll be making five of these guys, I think! They'll most likely be either squad sergeants, or a five-man squad of veterans or something, I'm not entirely sure yet. Still deciding on what weapons to give them all, and whether or not to magnetise their arms for loadout swapping. Any thoughts or suggestions?

And something else I'm working on occasionally - the 25th Anniversary Crimson Fist model. Sometimes it's nice to paint something different!

Let me know what you all think!
