So, they say they want to release plastic historical kits that haven't been covered, and then they list the most well-covered historical periods and continent. Sigh. Hopefully they'll at least scale well with modern fantasy and sci fi plastics for a change.

At least there will be another DeathFields kit. Ideally, they will be more of a match for the Raumsjagers than the grognards in scale/size.

What in that is well covered? I haven't seen earlier than Greece in plastic.

Ww1 has never been done in plastic that I know of.

Dark ages has been covered, but I think they are focusing on fringe nation's like Ireland.

And I haven't seen much for late colonial other than islawanda in plastic.

WGF did numidians, and I've seen at least one other company cover ancient Mediterraneans. They were kits designed somewhat ambiguously in clothing so they could cover many contemporary groups with simple head swaps and accessories. They'll be more interesting if the designs are really different from previous kits rather than subtly different, but that's not how the historical market seems to work.

Dark Ages and Imperial period fringes? There are whole continents and thousands of interesting years elsewhere that have no plastic minis. These minis are filling out relatively small niches in European history. It feels repetitive and boring.

I'll grant WW1, though.

Oh nice to hear that they will focus on more Dark Ages sets! Hopefully late Dark Ages / Early Medieval.

But everything between 500BC until 1400 AD (European / Middle East) would be fantastic!

I get that people already collect, build, and game with Dark Age models. It makes sense to head in directions that maybe are less represented.

It's also nice to see new eras and armies done in plastic. There's still so much that can be done though- Three Kingdoms era China, Conquistadores in the Americas, any of the East Asian empires (preferably one with elephants) or any number of funky scifi or fantasy kits.

Heck, a really nice plastic war elephant could probably get a lot of mileage out of a lot of armies and games if done correctly. Put the crew and trappings on a separate sprue to ensure maximum usage!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

But will they sell to a historical community that traditionaly runs to the same continents and relative periods for wargaming.

Hell, different Roman Legionary sets representative of troops from various sections of the empire would be excellent and add diversity to the market. Desert Legionaries from masesyli/numidia

WGF numidians are no longer on the market, which means that they are not as relevant to the conversation imo

Good point on the market. If Malibu Stacy’s new hat sells, then I guess they might as well make more. I’ll withdraw my comments and stifle my yawns until they make a kit that’s exciting to me as a consumer who is not invested in one specific part of one place’s history.

Would personally love to see pre-columbian Amerindians.

Then again, WGF did do plastic North American Indians...and apparently, nobody wanted them.

The WGF plastic natives sold out too quickly at my FLGS for me to buy any. I haven’t seen them for sale at the webstores I frequent. And they were released about the same time that WGF ceased to be a miniatures company as I recall. I don’t believe they ever had a fair chance.

Northstar Miniatures is publishing a French & Indian War black powder skirmish game. The official minis are metal. Possibly a plastic Iroquois Confederacy set might have success. OTOH, I don't know how much interest there is in the French & Indian War.
MUSKETS & TOMAHAWKS II

As for WGA plans ... First Empires could be promising if some ignored troop types are sculpted. For instance, New Kingdom Egyptian, Sea Peoples, Numidian foot and cavalry. Persian subject peoples like the Kushites. A possible generic box would be cataphracts; for armies that used them you need a lot of them, and the cosmetic differences were pretty slight. A specialty sprue would suffice to distinguish between early Byzantine and Sasanid Persian cataphracts. However, in my part of Los Angeles county, historical mini gaming is DEAD. Don't how Ancients does elsewhere.

As for the Great War ... if they make them 40k compatible they could be used as another type of IG regiment. (I bought a Warzone starter for the Imperial Trenchers with that in mind.)

I built the WGF woodland Indians. Small, thin, and fiddly is how I would describe them.

I may have painted some as well. Or my father did. One of us did. I'll see if he knows where they are. Maybe I can snap a picture.

Yeah if they made a separate purchasable sprue to replace the regular guns from the WW1 kit to lasgun and special weapon variants, and that the minatures are relatively well sized compared to Death Korps miniatures, I think they'd do really well.

1. Why not kitbash with the grognards?

2. it probably wouldn't look like a lasgun it would probably look like a generic sci-fi gun because of copyright.

The Grognards aren't the style I am looking for, and they only have 3 body types which make them less desirable.

If someone made WW1 British with leather jerkins like in the 1917 movie, Gasmasks with Brodie Hats, and a lasgun version of the Mk. III Lee Enfield, I'd be all over them like white on rice. I'd prefer them with the leather jerkins because 1) rule of cool, and 2) I need something which can represent flak armour better than regular uniforms. They were used quite a bit from the research I have read, mainly to help keep the soldiers dry, but they look great and would go well with a figure made like this.

The drawback is if the figures are way too small and would look ridiculous next to Death Korps sized troops. Also if the lasguns were made comically large like GW's ones, trying to be held by a much slimmer figure.

A good primer on WW1 Jerkins can be seen here;

We know that the next Death Fields kit will be British-themed (after the German Raumjaegers and the French Grognards).

I have the slight suspicion that they will go for a similar historic catch-all approach they went with the Grognards, meaning we might see one kit with Napoleonic shako, colonial pith helmet (hello, Praetorians), brodie helmet and officer cap head options, with and without gas masks.

Deathfields regiments will also get heavy weapon and command squad boxes in the future according to that little timeline video, that's cool to see. That would go a long way to getting some more poses in and make these viable for a full plastic army. Question is just how far those boxes are, most likely several months out, but no telling.

the power sword arm teaser that was posted a page or two ago leans suspiciously into dress uniform territory.

Considering Wargames Atlantic are also launching a colonial wars range, I wonder if there will be a large number of similarities between a Death Fields Victorian army and any potential British Empire figures. For example, exactly the same poses but variations in the uniform.

If the Death Fields dudes have putees (leg wraps), then I might be able to get away with my idea with a little bit of sculpting. Interested to see where this goes.

Also, please let there be Lee Enfield lasguns...

They look quite good.

What are your plans for the grognard heads and Raumsjager bodies?

If they're going to do mostly uncovered minis, I would really like to see them do a few sets of plastic modern civilians. The only ones I can ever remember seeing were those made by Wargames Factory, and they're impossible to find nowadays.

Grognard heads, various uses. The gasmask heads will be used with various historicals. You can see the grognard heads with shakos on some Crimean war Russian bodies behind the gents in the photo above.

Non gasmasked heads I'm not sure about yet.
