Anyone know why GW seem to have an obsession with Death Metal?

It's not Death Metal.

It's pretty much universally Dragonforce - which is as Death metal as my aunt alice. Proper death metal would scare parents from the stores and discourage them from dropping off GWs little meal tickets.

Huh. I thought they were contractually obligated to play the LotR soundtrack because that's all I ever seem to hear.

I wonder if different countries have different policies, I'm an Aussie like the OP and there's a lot of death metal in stores here.

I always figured it's because GW stores are run by nerds, and nerds love metal.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Metal is the primordial soup that GW emerged from in the 80's, where their rules are still firmly rooted.

It's not to my taste but better than the MOR music that plays in most shops.

Yesterday Games Workshop, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol was playing the theme tune to Dad's Army - classic completely representative of GW's marketing and sales policy.

'Rooted' has an entirely different connotation to many Ozzers.

'To Root' is to engage in Sexual gymnastics with another person. To say that GWs rules are rooted is to state the bleedingly obvious.

I never had that...but I do still have the flexi-disk that came with WD somewhere.

I think they play the loud stuff at weekends for the kids, when I've been in mid week they are either silent or sometimes playing classical music. And it's no surprise, who wants to work in an environment playing music loudly all the time?

UK Stores have a selection of discs to play.

Sadly, they are created in such a way that you can't skip the tripe. Nor can you take the discs home to burn the into a more pleasing order.

Bah.

Bolt Thrower weren't actually signed to GW, they just did an album that was an homage to W40K. They had the Rogue Trader cover on the front of the album. D-Rok were signed to GW, and released Oblivion, which I actually quite likes. Oblivion and Red Planet Blues were my fave songs. I think they had the Space Marine box cover on the front of their album.

I have that bolt thrower album.

As far as I'm aware, in the UK all the GWs are periodically sent new CDs with a variety of tracks on it, the last CD I heard had some Sum41, Killers, Paramore and a variety of other 'child-friendly' rock music and is to be fair quite a naff selection of music.

That's not exclusive to GW stores or the UK, in general.

Shops here in the US(from hobby shops to grocery stores/pharmacies and even fast food joints) tend to use the most generic radio stations they can. After all, why lose a potential customer just because they were turned off by the music they heard as they walked in?

Not surprising. Brian May used to play 40kays, and so did his boys (sons - not the other boys in his band(s)).

Never been to a official GW, but my FLGS always plays a Serious Satellite Radio station that only plays the Electric Light Orchestra.
It is funny because shortly before I started going to this store I started to like ELO a lot, and I was perplexed when I heard Fire On High and Sweet Talking Woman on it, since they usually only play some of the crappy ELO songs on the radio every once and a while.

For me, the GW at Mountain Village always played LOTR music. The one in Brea plays no music, IIRC.

My FLGS just plays the radio though, so, meh.

As long as it isn't disturbing the game, I'm good. Metal, Rock, hell, play bieber (well, maybe not) and as long as I can still play I really don't care.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
