I love my metal loud but I also find it hard to do my math hammer when my ear drums are taking a kickin'.

Southern rock or classical music works well when i'm gaming.

I can't speak for anywhere else in the world other than the UK, but as a GW employee I can definately confirm that GW doesn't play Death Metal, or any other kind of angry loud music which would inevitably put off customers.

As we have to actually have conversations with customers, having music on really loud with loads of drums and heavy guitars just wouldn't work, it tends to me more poppy rock music and stuff with a tune which you find yourself singing along to.

We do get a new CD every couple of months with a mix of current chart tracks, minus anything too cheesy and too slow. CD we had on today had things like Franz Ferdinand, Killers and Arctic Monkeys. The newer CD's are even having more house type bits on them too which is pretty cool. Something with a good tune and good beat is perfectly acceptable, and generally keeps the mood in the store upbeat.

Of course when we shut the doors at closing time, we put on something of our own choice and crank up the volume. Can't beat cleaning up to Take That!

What.Ingods.name.areyou.talkingabout.

None of the Gw's I've ever been in play anything of the sort. They usually just play generic 'battle-music' or LoTR music....No metal...Or guitar in general.

The poster that said that it was different music per different store got it right. ( At least for the ones in the U.S.A.)

I hear the soundtracks from Conan, Alien,Starshiptroopers, LOTR'etc. ( Basicly scifi soundtracks) in some stores, Others had a healthy mix of Metallica, Iron Maden, etc., and still others had some off the wall fatasy music, Led Zep, etc.

Just depends on the local crowds, I think.

If you don't like it, you can always bring your own stuff, I don't think that they would mind it if it wasn't too off the wall.
Cannible corpse, or Infanticide might be a little too extreme, but I wouldn't think something Like Zombie Ghost Train, Mad Sin, or The Misfits would be too out of the realm of possibility...

I dunno about anywhere else in the world but certainly in the UK you are not allowed to play any other CD's other than the GW ones sent to the store whilst the store is open.

Is it not a case of liscencing as well?

I.e. they have purchased liscenced music products for public broadcast and while a minor infingement playing privately owned CDs would consitute an offence?

Its true of films and the like that you can not shown them in a pub for example with out licencing/permission.

Not surprising. Brian May used to play 40kays, and so did his boys (sons - not the other boys in his band(s)).

Brian May had a house in Chiswick, down the road from the original Games Workshop in Dalling Road. He used to play historicals, and sometimes came into the shop in Hammersmith where I worked, to buy 15mm Minifigs. Which was around the corner form the Dalling Road GW.

Yup, and Sabbat. I remember the D-Rok album when it came out too. Still got it lurking around somewhere.

And umm... no. Thankfully it doesn't exactly get much play time round here.

The local Redshirts have fairly free reign to plug in their iPods, which I think is pretty cool. One guy likes Flyleaf and metal, and one of the other staffers had some Bob Marley on the other day.

I vaguely remember being in GW a few weeks ago and there being anything from Avril Lavigne, Queen and some other really really random music on. Kept hearing things I vaguely recognised but havent listened to in a LONG time.

They were able to have a license for this Album... but they are a band in its own, they still making new albums

in the case of my own LGS was... or an insane loop of Dropkick Murphys songs, or a DJ Disco radio (really awful). In the Official GW as much as i remember, BSO or Power metal, but the softest ones...

I remember hearing Powerman 5000 years ago when I first started. Thats the closest to "death metal" I've heard there. Several occasions I've heard no music.
Interesting enough, everyone at my local GW will insist that Dragonforce is the ultimate band of all time.

Recently, I've been hearing stuff that sounds like LotR, or generic opra/classical stuff which could easily fit both fantasy and sci-fi settings;.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

If you sell war games and play war games some metal/rock isn't going to go astray. I feel it is almost mandatory in fact. When ever i paint in store or at home i enjoy some nice relaxing metal. i am after all painting little men that are supposed to kill millions an commit acts of genocide regularly.

I don't work in a GW store however I do work in a LGS and we have wargames (GW, Wara/hordes), cards, euro boards, and RPGS. We also are with in a 4 block radius of 5 churches and 10 blocks of 9. So often I have had to change the music that the owner puts in (old metal, Rob Zombie, and some dreadful stuff I think they play while forcing mud into the speakers), due to the knowledge that many people here are not adjusted to what a store like ours sells or does. The normal wierd description of our "type" of store is "dark" (read as EVIL), now understanding thier wierd context with that and the overall undereducation they must have to think we are demon worshiping heathens and sinners just because we frequent a game store. We apparently are out to destroy thier moral fiber and corrupt thier children through the power of reading and non linear thinking, giving them confident math skills by adding all those card numbers up, as well as increasing thier exposure to social actives with people of different ages. So I do tend to put alot of softer stuff on, that being said, I still play Slaanesh, so I put on the legend Barry White, and often Marvin Gaye, in the vain hopes that they will stay long enough to open thier wallet.

Regards,
Carl

The LGS we went to this weekend was playing pop/top 40 radio. That was the first time I'd visited that particular store, so I am not certain that is what they always play, but I do remember hearing Taylor Swift and Train while in there. Personally I adore that type of music, so I was secretly thinking "Yay!"

The local GW plays soundtracks from a variety of movies. LotR(Obviously), Pirates of the Caribbean, Braveheart, etc. and some other things(I don't really follow music). I do recall the blackshirt saying something about them being obligated to play that certain list of soundtracks.

Of course, starting this week, we get to listen to Christmas songs over and over and over again......
