So, I'm a new poster to this forum, but I've been lurking around for a long time.

Basically ever since I read the Book 'A Thousand Sons', I've HATED the space wolves and vowed never to do an army of them.

Then I read the story in Codex: Chaos Space Marines called 'The Wolf of Fenris' in which Huron Blackheart captures a space wolf strike cruiser and a band of the space wolf crew who are defending one of the gun decks simply switches sides.

That combined with how cool the Space Wolf models are and the quality of the codex makes the idea of doing a Chaos Space Wolf army much more acceptable, and besides, I'll probably sell the army when it's done anyway...

So, heres some of the test models I've made:

Firstly, heres a couple of pics of my test Grey Hunter:

And the Wolf Lord 'Skyrar', aka a counts as Logan Grimnar:

Ok so the concept is cool. the painting is average but really you are killing yourself with the mold lines. I mean they are horribly obvious which is a bad thing. If you spend a little more time fixing those and preping your models I think you will be very happy with the results.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Agreed. The backstory is plausible and has a lot of potential as an army but above all else that you can easily change (especially w/ the intent of selling this army when you are done) is cleaning up the mold lines.

Sorry for my lousy english but what do you guys mean with mold lines? Isn't it the spaces between 2 separate pieces which are glued together? I can't see them it on the pictures. Could you please clarify?

ontopic: The idea is great but maybe a little more conversion? As in giving it a really cool chaos look instead of "just" SW's with a chaos shoulderpad...

Look along the top of the backpack in the first picture. You see that there's a raised line there? That's a mold line. It can easily be scraped of with a modeling knife or a file, preferly before you prime the model, cause if you scrape it of now a whole chunk of paint will disapear with it, and it will be very noticeble

As for more conversion, how about including some more wolven like parts on your marines? Seeing how these space wolves have turned to Khorne, it's only natural that they've started to let go of the chain that holds their inner beast,

That was a really fast and not completely awesome cleanup but I think the example will transcend language issues. By the way, your English is way better than my Dutch

I very much like the kitbashing. I may take a idea or two for my 13th Company.

Tell me though how do you paint the eyes?

I am really liking that scheme. I've always seen the Space Wolves as being less than one full heartbeat away from telling the Imperium to stuff it and just do their own thing. Not specifically saying they would worship Chaos, more likely they would worship the heroes from their heritage.

But like the fluff also reflects, Space Wolves do cross the line to Chaos w/o much effort.

Very cool models. I'll be back for more.

Time for a proper update,

I've finished some grey hunters:
Normal Guy:

Power Fist:

Wolf banner:

Wulfen (basically just a possessed marine):

And since it seemed to be the general opinion about it, i've removed the mold lines from the original test model:

And finally a nice group shot:

I'm not a fan of excess gore, but the blood looks quite realistic. How did you accomplish it?

Well, Nothing says "I have a mad crush on Khorne" like a massive double headed chain axe.

So in order to display that fact I decided to butcher one of the old Games Day wolf priests.

I haven't thought much about his background yet but the first thing that comes to mind is that in a similar way to Typhus, he was already corrupted and it was at his urging that the band of space wolves defending the Wolf of Fenris to switch sides and align themselves with Huron.

Anyway heres some pics:

Next up is some more Grey Hunters, they should be done by the end of the weekend.

What are peoples thoughts?

Edit: Yes I am aware of the annoying mold lines on the axe I didn't see it until I saw it in the photo and it will be removed by the next update!

I, too, am not usually a fan of excess gore, but imho you are pulling it off excellently!

All I did was flick some Red Ink from an old stiff brush, although, I have no idea what I'm going to do when that runs out since you can't get it anymore!

Wow. Usually "gore effects" look like a 5 year old spilled a quart of red paint over someones army by accident. This is simply brutal. It completes the model and tells a rather horrific story. For what my opinion is worth I think this is impressive and very well done. If you were so inclined your spatter technique would make a good P&M tutorial. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

These are pretty neat. I'm not a fan of gore either, but it fits for this army. Nice work.

An idea I used when thinking about a 13th company army was using Fabius Bile's enhancers to represent the "dark side of the moon"

More spatter for the spatter god. IMHO the scheme fails without the blood spatter, i'm sorry but the marines without bloodstains don't look nearly so good or particularly chaos-ey. Love the wolf lord and the possesed guy. There's a good piece of artwork from the 'Dornian heresy' book of a khornate Space wolf as well.

Man, I love that skyrar! And that wolf priest is just magnificent!

I've used some space wolf heads for a couple word bearers in my chaos army, and they look magnificent. Your use of bits is really great!

I like the blood and gore effects and the background idea. It's similar to my current CSM project in that Vikings were my inspiration. My only piece of criticism is that, despite the use of CSM parts, they still look like Space Wolves. I imagine that the SWs who switched sides would've re-painted their armor for a variety of possible reasons. The same light-gray color could've reminded them of what they used to be, thus possibly a source of shame. Maybe they would want a fresh start and a different color armor could represent change. Maybe they would get rid of all details of their former lives in order to prove their new allegiance to their new contemporaries. I think that if you would've used a darker gray it would achieve this and make them look more sinister while still holding somewhat true to their SW origins.

You have a very interesting painting style... almost... abstract in it's way. Bet the models are really striking on the tabletop.

Good work, please continue.

OH, and my one suggestion... drill the barrels of your guns. Minis painted that well deserve gun barrels.
