*Update* The wasteland horde.

*Update* Psychic battle squads

Back to early pictures...
First finished squad

WIP awaiting basing.

Lying on the eastern fringe of the galaxy the primary hive of the planet Terra Profugus is Enoch, but the mighty hive city of Enoch was never the same after it's domes were cracked during an ork Waaaaagh. After tens of thousands of years of unchecked pollution planet's surface was far less habitable than when the domes were built. Repair of the hive proved to be both too difficult and too expensive resulting in the inhabitants and being forced to build one of the galaxy's largest shanty towns in the surrounding wasteland.

Exposure to the surface usually causes horrific cases of malignant cancers, lung disease, or fatal liver damage, but worse yet an unacceptable numbers of inhabitants have shown mutations, unsanctioned psychic powers, and many of the descendants of inhabitants live on the surface into their mid 40's. Rumors on how human life continues in such harsh environment vary from faith in the emperor, accelerated human mutation possibly through genetic engineering, or worse yet sorcerous pacts with the ruinous powers of chaos. Heavy manufacturing within the cracked hive and functional secondary hives along with large numbers of sanctioned psychers produced by the planet have thus far kept an exterminatus, but the option is always on the table.

The population must be continuously refreshed with offworlders as the population can not sustain it's self. As only martyrs willing to die for the emperor would volunteer to go to such a forsaken planet most of the population has been replaced with criminals. Children born on the planet may never leave with the exception of sanctioned psychers. Rumors both true and false spread between the inhabitants about the nature of the astronomican. The planet continues to be plagued orks that continue to spawn in the wasteland and craft world Eldar that seem hell bent on the total destruction of the population. Much of the population is willing in able to help fight off ork and Eldar raids, but none born on Terra Profugus are genetically pure enough to be trusted, those born offworld are convicted criminals, and worse yet it is feared Alpha Legion's many tendrils are present.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Spent this week making bases and assembling my company command squad plasma gunners. Assembling bases took a lot longer than I anticipated, along with the plasma gunners as I was way to picky about getting the exact poses that I wanted.

Next step will be to do detail and washing of the primered and base boated bases so I can mount a dozen or so finished guardsmen on them. After that It's either going to be working on melta guns, plasma guns, or autocannons.

The fluff is quite nice, but I don't think the Imperial citizens know the truth behind the Astronomican & the sacrifice of psykers...

The models fit well together as well, and the bases look great... That's a good start!

Thanks.

From everything I've read so far the Astronomican is a tightly guarded secret, and the selection process for psykers going to the Astronomican is far too strict for potentially mutated psykers to be used. Alpha Legion lies & propaganda are a pearl with a grain of truth at it's core.

Did a 2 color basecoat on all bases this weekend, and completely finished 15 more bases. The first pics I posted were actually the 2nd wave of figures I painted in this army, the pics of the 15 new guardsmen this week are actually the first wave of figures I painted for this army. Posting them now that they are based, not 100% happy with them especially with the zoom view given by looking at them online, but they will look ok in a game from across the table.

Well as far as painting and modeling goes this week kicked my butt. Money spent this week was split between an imperial sector and home depot.

I did get to have a lot of fun playing with the painted guys in an escalation league.

Bonus picture of the week is one of my guardsmen with a bunch of bugs a bud at the flgs painted, it's packed with extra LULZ.

Feel free to inset a caption for that picture

Anyhow I spent the last couple of days assembling my vendettas.

Anyhow my army doesn't have the best maintained gear, and aircraft start to act rather fickle if their maintenance is neglected. Normal aircraft maintenance takes an obscene amount of man hours, trans atmospheric capabilities would only increase the man hour sink hole, and operating them in a desert just plain makes the mechanics cry. Large numbers of aircraft just wouldn't fit the theme of my ramshackle desert army, but there is always sorcery so I'm going with floating buildings instead of aircraft. The real perk of doing it this way is going to be that I can actually fit embarked squads on my transport.

Now it just needs greenstuff and slate on the base and it can look like the rest of my army. The PCV pipe as a stand will be painted a bright color to look like a beam coming out of the bottom of the floating building, and I'll sculpt & paint a line of scorched earth in the beam's wake on the base. If I get really froggy after the army is built I'm contemplating buying a Witchfate Tor from the WHFB line and doing the same conversion with it to make a super heavy silver tower of Tzeentch.

Thanks guys. 2nd Vendetta is finished. Further work sculpting the rocks for the building is on hold until the weather improves enough to work outside because the fumes are giving my wife a headache. Next step will probably be to prime the building, and I'm debating if I should bolt the flanges to the bases. The Vendettas are going to be the only flying buildings, my rule of thumb is if it doesn't fly I'm not going to replace it with a model that can fly.

I'm not sure yet how exactly I'm going to do the rest of my vehicles. The debate is if I'm going to convert ork vehicles, or kit bash ork parts with IG vehicles. I am going for a mad max/fall out feel for the army so I'm tempted to use ork bits, but I don't want the army to just look like orks.

Any ideas for Ogryns? If your army is mutated it's rude not to!

Will probably use river trolls to convert Ogyrns by making them to look like reptilian desert creatures, but that's a long way off and I have no immediate plan to use Ogyrns. The big problem is the army I have planned has the elites filled with force org with 2 squads of the converted psychers that I posted earlier and Marbo. Ogyrns are something I would throw in for a friendly game.

Slow week, but I finished base coating a Chimera. Going to attempt dipping a vehicle for the first time either today or tomorrow, then after it's dry the plan is to place some transfers and free hand an alpha legion hydra on the turret of the Chimera.

Dipped models for the first time last night. The Chimera and 1 guardsman was dipped. I still have a little over 24 hours until I can matte spray the models to take the shine off. I will compare the dipped guardsmen to undipped guardsmen then, and I can also proceed to finish the transfers and maybe do a little freehand to finish the Chimera. I am overall pleased with the way the Chimera came out after the dip, and am looking forward to finishing it with the matte coat.

Fine detail work on the Chimera ended up being delayed this week. It took far longer to assemble and magnetize the remaining 4 Chimeras than I anticipated. The smoke launchers and spikey bits were easy to magnetize, but heavy flamers were a real pain. The spikey bits were a bit of a time sink also, but if there is 1 thing I learned as a chaos player over the years is always magnetize your spikey bits because 1 way or another they will come off eventually. Anyhow 4 Chimeras assembled and primered.

Played a game against DE last Friday and I was going nuts because my half painted HWS were not glued to their bases. Finished painting the HWS so I could glue them to their base, and while I was at it I based 2 finished flamers.

Ow yea, almost forgot I tried the Army painter matte spray. All the difference in the world when it comes to shine. It's a little hard to tell with a camera, but there is absolutely no shine now which is great.

Back to work on the Chimera, will post as soon as the Hydra is done.

Earlobe deep in doo doo

Looking good for the ramshackle look for the vehicles why not just slap on some extra armour plates (squares of card or plasticard) but painted in keeping with the vehicle?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. It is an oath we honour. Extra plates might be good, but I don't want to completely overdue it. I'm going to a combination between desert raiders and steel legion for the look, only the guardsmen have been exposed to a toxic atmosphere instead of hiding behind gas masks and environmental suits like a bunch of steel legion wussies.

HWS finished with 2nd team member/spotter/reloader

2nd team member/spooter/reloader is magnetized with the magnet on the bottom of the figure. When the HWS takes a wound the 2nd model comes off. The little magnetic numbs are not visible at all when the guardsman is attached to the 60mm base.

Thanks, I'm happy with how the heavy weapons teams turned out.

Well I separated what unpainted infantry I need to play at 2k and assembled the horde of unwashed masses awaiting a full base coat, dry brush and wash. Tried to get a rough base coat on all of them without stopping to do detail work, but that only lasted for a few hours until I could not wait any longer to assemble my hydra.

I'll get back to these guys later.

Hydra time. Parts are kit bashed from a Chimera, a turret from an ork battlewagon, and the guns are from an Aegis defense line.

Here is the turret, magnetized so the TL AC can be removed.

And they snap right on and off to the turret.

And the assembled Hydra.
