Hi all

i am an thrustworthy memeber of the adeptus astartes and i am in control of normal sized task force of ultramarines and a little regiment of gaurdsmen
i am expanding the ultramarine army (my god i love them) and i wanted some cool looking models i have got assault mariens and tacs and scouts so much i lose the urge to paint them
i wanted some more detailed minis i thought about calgar but deu to limited fonds i had to choose between the venerable dread, sterngaurds or vangaurds.. i bought sterngaurds (obviously)
for now i can only show the unboxing but i will see if i can do anything with them this evening and if it's worth posting i will..

so what have we got here...

5 sterngaurds and 5 awesome looking desert bases to match my desert themed army..

uhm well actually they are from a newcomer on the market and (damn me) i forgot his name and i already threw away the wrapping
but i will do some research on them and let you guys know what i came up with..

so i started with the sergeant (i guess)
based in regal blue with scorched brown as basin for the scrolls and gold.. BM for the armour joints and bolter

I agree with above posts. Very cool bases. Eager to see your Sternguards finished.

so already some updates on the sergeant
1 baba wash al over the model
2. repaint all blue area's (i hate this part) the armour joints had a double baba wash to make them darker
3. adding of the red for the purity seals and black to the bolter and targetter
4. adding bleached bone for scrolls
5.i also made a sergeants banner out of a spare banner of one of mine dev squads (they don't wear banners imo)
6. painting the gold on the armour and an attempt to make the bandings white.. we'll see how it works out not very convincing for the moment..
(7. i am really crappy with a camera so there are some differences between the pics just can't get the lighting right.. workin' on it.. )

ok so day 2 of the sterngaurd paintin'..
been workin' on the sergeant, putted him on his base and gave him his backpack
washed the baner and repainted it already.. i'm still thinkin' about the design.. any idea's?

You could do the usual ultramarines symbol for the banner or make up some symbol that makes it stand out to represent some sort of ulimate victory.

Perhaps you could borrow some sort of iconagraphy from the SM codex, and use some symbol from the banners in there to create an idea.

By the way, are you taking your pictures in natural light? The ones with the flash on are way too bright, and the others look like the need some highlighting.

the model isn't highlighted yet.. i am going to do that tommorow morning.. i put a skull on the banner representing veterancy they have a paersonal droppod and rhino also with a skull on it instead of the squad number for my tacs.. pics are incoming..

so after working on this fella for another three hours.. i'm tired to death but he had to be finished as he's going ro enter a painting competition this very day.. so wish me luck

first of all what has happend..

1.i painted the helmet, that was a real though one.. first a thin layer of skull white than asurman blue in the resesses an then three thin layers of skull white all over the helet leaving the blue in the recesses.. you can better do layers and layers of thin white paint than try tot do the job in one go.. if you do then your helmet will look totally blurred..
2. painted the banner added, red gore and highlights
3.painted the eyes w red gore , blood red, blazing orange and a white dot.. but that's hard to spot on the picture..
4. the base has it's colours, brown banding an painted the branches and skull on the ground
5. added some cool looking bulletholes to the banner and put on a number one (ref. to first comp ofcourse)





what do you guys think of him?? i had to add the skull to the banner as to match their dedicated rihno wich has a skull as mark for transporting veterans ( he's finished and will be updated soon)

finished sergeant comments??

If those bastrds are going to enter next game, my wraiths will be more than pleased to meet them in CC xD

In the end very very neci model and maybe your new height in painting your models xD

Looking good! My only crit would be the white, which seems a tad blotchy. Lots of thin coats m8

@khaine: the whit IS a bit blotchy but that's becuz i primed it in blue first .. so had to keep layering and even with thin coat it still a hard job..

so i speeded up a bit ya all know now how the painting works so won't be posting every step of the painting process..

so what's new: started the second squad member he's basecoated repainted added brown and white parts.. i am busy with the shading of the helmet for te moment..





oh yeah the painting competition: i ended second silver trofee the golden one was for some 18 year old guy who had painted a ungor the dark omen and he diserved gold IMO so here he is

My advice would be space wolves or codex grey, then white. Better coverage, less blotchiness

so it has been a few days now.. due to some schoolwork and a new arriving squad my lascannon devs
wich are painted now and only need some basing but ther's no need to rush.. i am a bit proud of the sergeant


so back to sterngaurds.. the next sterngaurd is almost finished now added the gold an silver detail and the scrolls..
the helmet is a lot less blurry but i messed up the freehand laurel so the lower half is being repainted for the moment..
so here he is wht you think?? any adds or ideas??

very nice detailing on the Auspex, something looks off about the Sgt. however, I think it's because there is no gold details which is something that you usually expect on ultras

yes i know but that's a bit of a legend.. only the second company bears gold on their shoulder bandings.. and i was inspired bu a picture in the rulebook and i wanted white chesteagles and white bandings.. i had already to much painted until i found out that that's the colour of the 1e company wich only consists of veterans.. so i call my chapter the sons of Guilliman but i'm still working on the fluff but there will be a necron haterd in it as i am usually fighting necrons.. new pics are incoming..

Very nice! I had my doubts from the dim photography to start. Looks like you got the hang of it now too. I like the freehand on the helmet.

Ultramarines always look really nice with a dark blue scheme, keep up the good work!

been working on the second squad member all is done except the final highlights
also showen theri very personal rhino (droppod is in progress)
note: the skull on the rihno fits with the sergeants banner










i am a bit proud of the battle damage on the rihno and the chipping on the pod.. although the rihno driver needs another paintjob..
