I've been on dakka dakka for about two years and its time I started a army blog. I have had a lot of free time of late and decided to revamp my orks and get back in the hobby. So I'll be uploading my projects at least once a week to showoff, get critical feedback and keep myself from slacking off. While my orks are my primary goal I might toss up some other projects, cool models I have or any terrain im working on. SO let it begin!

We will start with my cutter free and non "junky" workspace simply cause I can.


Junky's Current Project: Killa kans, the body themselves are going to be stock as this is my first unit of them. All three will be armed with skorchas and I've made the base using ideas taken from "Gitsplitta's" basing tutorial.
Bases





I painted the base Snakebite leather then added a 2:1:1 ratio of small,medium and large grit G9 basing sand. Made a few little bumps with Gs and glued a few pieces of debri and rocks. Added more sand on top then painted the metal pieces and gave the whole base a wash of devlan mud to give it a dirty/oily/polluted soil look. I also realized it would be hard to glue the kans on and have them stand proper so put down some Gs and pressed their feet in to make it easier.

Skorchas
Im using the stock skorcha on one of the kans and decided to kitbash the other two. Both are based off of and old epic great gargant cannon arm.

the main body and piece slightly below it is the kannon arm. Cut the barrel off and added a hull mounted heavy flamer that I cut down to fit

Made a gas tank for both of the skorchas from some thick plasticard tubing.(dont know what size anymore) and two tank tops for the burna's backpack tank that come in the burna/loota box. (im making lootas and had these about)
They actually are the perfect fit for the tubing.

Added some bands, connectors and hose all from plasticard.

Also a little pressure valve. Im happy with it but I think it needs some rivets or something to give it a more orky look.
The second skorcha I actually made first and am more proud of.

Same gargant gun arm, this time a dreadnought and crisis suit flamer. Used to have a bunch of marines and helped build some of my friends tau army.

Better shot of it from the side, I like the idea of meks just slapping together whatever items they and the rest of the deathskulls can get their grubby mits on.

The other side with pressure valve and dreadnought flamer. Once again cant help but feel like it needs a bit more but I dont want to make it look to cluttered.

Anyways a good start to my Revamping project. I welcome all C&C and shall update with more later.

Weekly Update Part 1

Back for ROUND 2 on my army blog. Painting is just as hard as I remember but despite the challenge managed to make some progress.
Not thrilled with the results so far, tried my hand at using a sponge to do worn paint/battle damage look. I think I went a bit overboard on the first Kan.

I think I will just repaint the blue and hand paint the worn edges. Mistakes are still part of the process. I should get these touched up and at least have the bodies finished by friday.

My learning experience of Acetone Free nail polish remover on plastic.

That is a Nice thumbprint don't ya think? Its from the old warbuggy and one of my earliest ork models.
Was pretty excited to clean that piece off, had so many layers of paint the skulls were just bump with no detail. SHAMELESS PRODUCT ENDORSEMENT Use simple green folks!

Next something pretty cool. My senior year of Highschool I found out one of my teachers plays 40k. I was even on his team for my local game store's Apocalypse Test run/release event.
He asked me if I wanted some plastic beastmen he was converting to use as bloodletters. He gave me a bag full one day after school and had this weird plastic beastmen with a gun that he painted.

A little late to update, but better late then never! Not as near as much progress this week do to finally getting a job again. HUZZAH! Which will of course further fund my work.
I touched up the mess my attempt at sponging left and did the "battle damage by hand".







Looks pretty good, at the moment. Having thought it over im inclined to agree with "KingCracker" and ditch the skorchas for now. I think a trio of Mega blastas would be more effective. The damage was simply done with painting Chaos black on some edges, going over the black with boltgun metal leaving some black and simply going Mithril silver over the boltgun. Looks pretty good, at the moment but I plan to actually change up my entire color scheme now so this will end up getting stripped in the near future. I need to get a few more paints and most likely change to using a different brand. I like some of Gw's paints but lately they have been bugging me. Vallejo looks pretty good, I really like the dropper tops.

But I digress, im thinking a mostly green look for any general machines and tanks. The boys will be painted slightly different but with the same green as the tanks somewhere to tie them in. The vision I have is for their theme is the boys are merc's (freebooters but without being all piratey) and the machines are all built by a Master mek who hires out the freebooters. Once I figure some names for the army and whatnot ill add a fluff post. I got some big ideas for this army instead of just building with no real vision like I had been. But enough talk of what will be time for more of what I've done.

Looking really nice! The torso part of the stompa looks really nice as does the Kan!

Grotzookas are also VERY handy vs horde armies, although you may be right using them in CoD. Nice looking turret! Needs more dakka......

UPDATE 3/12/11

Time for a update and just in time. Been a bit busy getting back on the work force, having my dads birthday and having relatives over. Somehow I managed to cram some real "work" in all that.

I might change out the kannon for a "boomgun" from the battlewagon upgrade sprue. Gotta need to add some exhaust pipes, battle damage and slap some plates on there and it should look pretty good. Well managed to sneak this in before sunday, and got a few days off this week so hopefully more for my next update. Till then.

Wow, some awesome minis on this thread, love the bases too, I think the Robo Stompa head is my favourite though, superb! Keep up the great work.

UPDATE TIME!! 3/17/11
Have a few days off here and managed to make some good progress on my looted wagon.

Added some plasticard to the back of the "dozer" blade to make it easier to fill the gap with some gs once I attach it.

Some a little extra armor to the front, might add a glyph on them.

Some plating to the right side, both the sponsons were very stubborn when I initially removed them leaving a big hole on each side. Hence the big plating.

More plating and some bullet holes to the left side.

Gonna toss on the front plate and add some gs to fill the gap and then lots of rivets! Cant wait to try the new paints I got on this baby.

On a personal note im quite glad I just got my tax refund as I just broke my glasses.

Anywho thanks for all C&C See you all next update.

I like the additional plates on the Russ. Will you be scuffing up the main hull to match their state of repair?

Nice conversions. That custom mega-skorcha thingy is awesome. It was fun watching it come together like that too. I really like your plasticard "damage" on that last tank too.

Well my first "late" update. Been a bit busy with work and havent made much progress on anything due to poor vision with old glasses. Luckily my glasses just came in and i can get back to work as well as i have plenty of stuff to show you from my "Random fings" gallery. So lets get it started!

Ruined building wip


Slapped this sucker together months back and until recently it was still just sitting in cardboard form.I know cardboard and mdf will usually warp but when i made this i didnt care. Got some Gesso on it and the bottom to hopefully help avoid warping. Sprayed some textured paint and will add more detail when i get back to it.

Doombull :painted:


A old doombull my friend from hawaii painted for me way back in 04. I should base this sometime and get a protective coat on it. No gameplay use for me but its to cool to do anything else with it.

A chaos knight also painted by the same guy who painted my doombull. The doombull and chaos knight i told him to paint in slaanesh like colors. Another Display piece really.

Chosen of chaos
A squad of chaos marine specialists I was working on and testing color schemes for when i was a member of TheWarp.net . Really need to strip them and finish them sometime.










The one in black and white had a second spike/hook thingy on his helmet and it looked great. Have to replace that after i strip that horrible primer coat. That was back when i would actually buy GW primer. Came out all funky.
I havent given a few weapons yet, and I will post closeups of the rest once i get them cleaned up.Till next time.
