Paint boltgun red and give it a Baal Red wash.

Doesn't quite work. You'll need a stronger red ink to get it done properly.

This tutorial shows that at best the red wash will make a metallic pink.

Besides the red ink you could try mixing red gore or something like that with the gloss varnish in order to make a sort of glaze to put over the metallic colour. However the red ink would be easier and more consistant.

Considering your going to lose the shinnyness with the more red paint you add I'd start with the most silvery silver you have. mithril probably mix it with red what you want is the purest red pigment without a base that you can get so red ink might me your best bet straight into the silver then apply thin layers. on larger area paiont jobs I.E. motorbikes/Architectural models you's paint the best silver you can then go over it with multiple red glazes to build up the depth without losing the shinnyness.

Use Gold as the metalic base. It's warm yellow color makes the red ink more brilliant and it wont turn out pink or magenta. I used it for all of my Khorne berserkers.

If tinting a metallic basecoat with ink doesn't work, there are metallic/pearlescent mediums sold at art and craft stores that you can add to paint to make it glimmer. Do your research before picking one though - you want to end up with a metallic red, not "red with sparkles."

Maybe that's what he's going for. I myself eagerly await Twilight Necrons, and the choice a girl must make when she's torn between her love between an ancient, undying robot, and a Space Wolf.

I think she would quite litterely be torn between them in that senario

I could ask him to write down the steps he took to make his metallic red crons.

I used a mix of blood red and Mithrill silver for these. Afterwards I gave them a heavily watered down black wash followed up with two coats of red ink that I bought at Hobby Lobby:

A guy at the swansea GW had some metallic red logos on his exodites, he used GW mithril silver followed by numerous coats of the old GW Red ink.

As an experiment, I wonder how it would look if you did a silvery metal basecoat and then applied Tamiya Clear Red (yes, the wonderful blood-on-a-weapon stuff) over it?
