Well I've know about and viewed this forum for years, I even had an account.... but I hated the black background and orange writing, and I found it really hard to view... perhaps there is something wrong with my eyes (wouldn't be surprised).

So, I recently discovered that this forum has skins.... which I should have realised a LONG time ago (being a mostly computer literate person (I knew they existed I just didn't think about it...)).

So I have a few years of conversion saved up......

I don't play 40k any more but I still dabble with conversions now and again I used to play warmachine up until a few months ago, but the scene has REALLY dried up here in W. Sussex UK.

So in the order of latest conversion first:

Middle guy is a scratch sculpt (except the head)

Working on a Mordheim in the Iron kingdoms, that's what these are for.

Some Warmachine proxies

(left guy is a stock WM mini)

Half scratch sculpted

WIP Dwarf bear riders... (or no longer allowed DOW ogre rhinox riders *sigh*

Chaos Dwarves

Tau

Mud guys

Dwarves

Necromunda bits

Wow. Most of those are all kinds of awesome. The ones that especially caught my eye were that first full-sculpt and those bears. Oh those bears. I'm really liking all the tau stuff too. Great work all around!

Just a normal sculpting tool and a small clay shaper from heresy miniatures, I only had the clayshaper for the bears upwards (they are in chronological order). Wish i'd had it before then.

Cool, I take it you've got the black, size 0 flat chisel clay shaper?

No actually I have the round cup, it's the only one I have so I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly a lot easier to use than the metal tool.

I also use a blunt and a Sharpe knife, should have mentioned that.

Loving the tau stuff, especially the beastmen converted, that;s actually a really good idea to have them as a new race that's joined the empire. When I eventually get back into tau I might have to nick that idea, sorry about that, I'll make sure I give you full credit if I do.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I'd recommend the flat chisel and tapered point clay shapers (I find these two are the ones I use most). If you are doing larger areas of flat panels I'd also recommend getting a larger flat chisel clay shaper (maybe a size 2).

Also, fine grade wet and dry sandpaper (800 to 1000 grade) to smooth off the flat areas.

Although I was the first person I ever saw doing it on the "Advanced tau tactica" forum back in the day, I certainly wasn't the last .

Go for it .

Love it. A lot of these are fantastic. Very creative and imaginative. I would love to see you put this kind of effort into converting a truly unique full army!

Well there is my demiurg project....

But to be honest there wont be a LOT of converting going on there, just a giant mish-mash of other manufacturers products rolled into a couple of models. lol

In that case, can I suggest my Dhurn minis? (link in sig to my webstore)

These space dwarves measure roughly 20mm and fit in reasonably well with most other manufacturers models of a similar kind - and they're currently discounted!! Get them while you can at the lower price

thanks

Yarp, got another 7 Squigs to do the rest with at some stage and another 3 of the big guys in the back.... mind you they have been at this stage in this picture for about 5 years now... lol

I was intending to make them into tau auxs too back in the day. (I have a LOT of unfinished projects).

Stuart I saw your space dwarves, they look pretty good, but I don't intend to have more than a about 4-5 Demiurg in the army and they are all going to be in battlesuits.

Saying that I was considering getting some for Necromunda but to be frank £2.99 postage is a little high considering you can post up to 100g (I think it is) for about 50p if they are less than 25mm thick (which miniatures in a bag should be) and envelopes cost about 20p each if you buy a pack from a poundland....

Also I think i'm going to Salute this year if I can hitch a lift and should be saving monies for that.

Thanks for the feedback

The postage rates have been changed slightly on my site now. To be fair though, £2.99 is based on an average packed weight of ~140g sent 1st Class Recorded (plus the cost of the padded envelope) - and before you ask, no I don't send anything out non-recorded, mainly because Paypal is a complete nightmare for sellers if you cannot prove delivery of an item :(

Also, if you are going to Salute, drop me an email/PM if you would like any of my stuff (I'll hand the minis over to you there personally, saving on the postage )- I'll be there from about 10am and am happy to have a chat

Thanks

NOOOOOO more money I need to save should I be able to get a lift to Salute!!! AAAAAARRRGGHHH lol

Cheers for that I may well take you up on that, but i'm still waiting to hear back from the people I know who are going.

You might want to consider a 2nd class postal option then, because a cheapskate like me will want to go 2nd class every time, especially in this day and age (can still be recorded).

Latest project is another sculpt in a similar style to the last one, but not with a long coat... will be my first attempt at bare arms.... DUN DUN DUN! lol

Looking good - have a look for reference pics before you sculpt the arms, it'll help you get the musculature in roughly the right places

also, do you work using formers? ie, do you "rough in" the shapes before skinning them with GS and detailing?

I think I do... if I understand you right, yes, they both started out as wire armatures which I then bulked out into a basic body shape.

like this

Then they sat on a shelf gaining dust for about 1.5 years while I tried to make some boots I was happy with...

Then I took a file to one of my naff boots one night, liked the look and decided to work up one of them.

like so:

That's more or less the idea

I'd suggest when you sculpt the bare arms, you sculpt the muscles in roughly (not making them too large, or you'll end up with massive arms on your mini!) then skin over the top of these when they've cured. This way you can keep the arms looking seamless (ie, no join lines where you've added a blob of putty), if that makes sense!

Hope you can make Salute, as I'd like to see a couple of these up close

Demon battlesuits...?

Sorry, please clarify, do you mean the Tau Aux beastmen? (I call them Touren) or something else?

Cheers for the comment.

Just one of the many Tau Auxiliary races, Fighting along side humans, Kroot and Nicassar, I just thought of these the instant I saw the plastic stealthsuits for the first time, and converted them up.

I used them as space marine scouts in a Game of 40k Apoc.

Fluff wise they are just a race of noble warriors that were "recruited" into the Tau empire to fight for the "greater good".

They are able fighters, tough, strong and fearless, but they do not have the numbers that the Kroot do being as they were not space faring and had been occupying only one planet before the Tau discovered their race.

In my head these are not beastmen in the "chaos" sense of the word as you would find in Warhammer fantasy, but instead harking back to the 40k rogue trader days where the beastmen were just another race.

Is that copper tube or brass rod? What diameter are you using?

Thanks

Brass, but I have copper as well somewhere, and aluminium.

I don't know what diameter i'm using lol.

The parts came from a random bits pack from K&S engineering (which is good because I struggle to cut straight lines lol).
