interesting in a good way! never ever thought of cobbles for 40k! are they going to be cut up to form the paths? or are you gonna place the whole sheet down? because i think they would look good with kerbstones and paving flags with moss inbetween , like these
or this

I haven't thought about cutting them up. I will probably have to see how the material lays once it comes in the mail. I do like the idea of having grass, moss growing on the walkway. Consider that idea STOLEN!
Also, look what I got in the mail yesterday. Believe it or not this will at some point will turn into the Fountain that I have been talking about so much. One question for you guys though is "What do you use to glue plastercast or plastercal" I have never worked with this kind material before.
Thanks as always and keep the comments coming!

I think for our temple, I think we used PVA glue. Super glue works too, Ive used it on plaster before.

I've used both superglue and PVA to stick together plaster pieces.

how was the water effect achieved with the fountain? specificly the spout that drops into the water?
never glued that stuff before , but no more nail / hard as nails sticks anything, not sure what its called in America though...

Thanks for the glue suggestion, I will have to look into using that. As for the fountain, the one that is painted is not mine. I have no idea how he made the streams of water but this guy sells all of his products painted and assembled as well. I will be using standing dirty water with debris in it. The end feeling will look similar to the water treatment plant. I did however find a youtube video of Mike for Terranscapes talking about his fountains. Here they are and enjoy

Sorry for the late reply - superglue is pretty good. Gives a stronger bond, but is less flexible than PVA. For what I use plaster parts for, superglue is better.

There is only one broken headstone, the rest are okay and one in sinking into the ground. You will see I am on a roll with this one

The colour you've got into the buildings really brings it to life. The warm reddy brown also adds more interest, compared to them being just grey.
Neil's suggestion of grass in the cobble cracks is . With desire lines (generally people walk in the most direct route or along the centre of a narrow path) the grass would be shorter/stunted from damage. So on your paths shorter grass in the middle, longer towards to curbs.
Cheers

On a roll folks...Just waiting for the flooring to come. I need to go buy the dead static grass to finish off the ground, and do some more work on the tree. The next few painting sessions are going to be focused on the cherub that adorns the archway. I am really starting to love this one and it is fast becoming my favorite. Let me know what you guys think and comments are always helpful. Keep in mind that the ground cover ballast will NOT be painted and static grass will cover the rough areas. I have also put a second layer done after these pictures were taken. Lots more moss, vines and offerings to come. While I am on that subject can you guys please give me ideas for offerings, I am at a loss
Enjoy

that looks really inviting, used to love hanging around gravesites as a kid, and smoking behind tombstones, something sacrilegious made them cigs seem so much naugtier :-0 , just needs some bags in the tree , why is there always plastic bags in trees, and empty beer cans , bottle of cider and an old adult magazine. and you could have any cemetery in the uk, oh yes and a homeless man and graffiti.
but as for grimdark

Well there are a few questions that you have to ask yourself. First, how much money do you want to spend? There are really cool sets available through GW, and Pegasus Hobbies http://www.amazon.com/Gothic-Building-Large-Miniature-Terrain/dp/B000P8IEFU but they are pricey. You should know that the COD sets that GW sell are really only a quarter of a building at best as well. Second, how big is your board? If your using anything less then a 4x6 board then you may get by with just a few sets. Third, are you a DIY gamer? If you are pretty crafty then you can make your own buildings out of pink foam for really cheap. My COD is probably in the ball park of $250 plus and sit growing. Fourth, how much energy and time do you want to spend? The buildings in this thread took a good while to make and while they are worth it I have yet to play with the whole set. If speed and beauty are your bag then just start with a few COD kits from GW and spray paint then drybrush and bam your done. I hope this helps and post some pics when you get a few buildings. A PM thread is a great way to stay motivated and you will get lots of great feedback!

I would suggest to plan out the following:
1) How much money you want to spend
2) How much time you have to spend
3) How much of the table do you want to cover
4) How you want it to look (ruined, whole, mix of ruined and fully built etc, industrial, residential, etc)
5) What kits (if any) you are going to use (there are plenty of sites online which will have kits perfect for 40K with little to no adaption)
6) What basing/etc kits you might need (static grass, flock, etc - Gale Force 9 do a wide and reasonably priced range of these)
