Got the IF armour done today, first time to try layering, there's to much paint in places, but it's not to bad.

Also started hazard stripes on the front, not sure if I should try freehanding the stripes or not. Also I might try to free hand the fist on the shoulder armour. Do I need to do a white background or can I get away with just doing a black fist??

Anyone think I should do hazard stripes around the missile launcher too?? and should I do gold around the dread head or leave it??

Use tape to mark off the warning stripes. Much cleaner.

Do the stripes around the missile launcher, that'd be classy.

@joshh - thanks for the help, tape it is and yes I also think more stripes would lok better

Yeah Iron Warriors love their hazard stripes

The IW Dreadnought is shaping up nicely. Other good spots for hazard stripes would be on a leg and on weapons. I think gold would look good on the heads enclosure.

Just because it is Iron Warriors I like this pattern better:

And yes it would look good around the missile launcher as well.

@skalk - cool mock up

@JoeyHeadwounds - Thanks, I will do more stripes on leg plates, and weapons

@GiraffeX - do you think some spikes on the weapon arms are needed?

hmm they are a bit bland at the moment being imperial, not sure if spikes are the answer or not. It depends if your other dreads have spikes, as you wouldn't want too many with spiky bits otherwise they start looking similar.

Depending on your GS skills you could try doing the chaos star like on the FW chainfist on each shoulder, that would add a bit more colour to the model as well.

@Joe - hi, I use these now for rust-

Best results for the rust is just random stabs with the brush, also light dry brush over a silver base.

The yellow on the imperial heads, was base of Bestial brown, then kept adding Bubonic Brown, I didn't have Lyanden. I did this after watching this vid.

For the front plate it was Bestial Brown then Bubonic Brown.

@Ironchaos - thanks alot.

Are they Vallejo Pigments?

I can't see ones with those names though looking on Maelstrom Games, I can see they have a Rust and Oil set are these the same ones?

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=val_hob_pig_set_101_000

I might give them ago if they are, how do you apply them?

Thanks

Yo Giraffex, they are not pigments. I have never used pigments.

They are panzer aces.

@shingouki - thanks

I'm not sure about the gold on the IW, I think I should go over it with a dark brown and start again!!!

Any thoughts?

The gold looks ok to me, sometimes it all pulls together when you start painting the arms and legs.

Good point Giraffex.

So I'd better get this plasma cannon done. I've been stuck on it for ages now, I could not think of a way to attach it to my arm.

So this is my afternoon project.

Dreadknight parts are cool, and big

I'm taking a short break, so have taken progress so far pics, Hope you like.

The GK DK part has really bulked it up, which is what I'm really going for.

Only just found this thread, these Dreadnoughts are great! I can see I've been wasting my money buying the FW ones - these conversions are much better. Particularly like the Nurgle one. Subscribed.

I think that looks good, adds a lot more to the model

The Plasma Cannon does look huge, the DK parts go really well on the dread.

Thanks Giraffex,

This morning I've just changed the left arm to match the right, it was bothering me with the original GW holder. Now I'm happy with it.

Any thoughts?
