Yeah well... it was a question of "New shiney syndrome" everyone gets it...
Although the worst models ever to clean up are FW ones... as you just want to stick them beauties together... but no... you have to spend several hours washing and drying the buggers before you can even open the glue...
but yeah... If you look at my photo's you'll see what I've done to the 'fex's. extensive conversions ftw!!!

Agreed. Nids are one of the most rewarding armies in that regard, in that you basically have a licence to create your own beasts as long as they fit the size requirements... roughly. Carnifexes are the most adaptable of the nid kits, one could almost call the Xenos Rhino if it weren't for the annoying point discrepancy.
Discovered your blog just yesterday and I find your plan to build your army based on point milestones very interesting. Can't wait to see how it progresses, especially if you run with that last paint scheme. The subdued base colours and the punchy splashes of yellow and purple really fit the nids well and they should look quite at home on a jungle based board.
Carry on and happy sculpting.

Thanks for the follow my good sir!!!
Tis quite nice to see someone new post on here lols, especially as the madness of the =L= (The League of Extraordinary Riveters) has infected this thread
Lol I know what you mean about the 'fex's tis a shame they too away the ability to have them as dirt cheap units, that could also be taken as elites...
DAMN YOU CRUDDACE!!!
ahem... anywho. Yes, the points increments came about as I was writing my background story for the fleet. But also as a way to force me to paint an entire army for once. which trust me, is a major pain in the arse as I've been gaming since '93... ¬_¬

And that right there is exactly why I approve of your genius army plans as I too have been gaming since the wonderful days of Rogue Trader (when you could build your Eldar dreadnoughts to have jum jets, 10 wounds, T10, a 2+ Sv and a force field) but I have yet to ever fully paint an army.
The 200 point Dakka-Fexes of 5th Edition are definitely not as enjoyable as the 4th Ed variety but at least now we have Hive Guard. While not perfect, that's a decent trade and a great sidegrade by my reckoning as we can now insta-gib Obliterators and ignore turbo-boost cover saves, much to our opponents' dismay and chagrin.
I couldn't help but notice that further down the pipeline you plan on using Shrikes. If you haven't considered getting the FW wings yet, I strongly urge you do so as they're excellent. Not only do they look great but they're quite sturdy too. And let's not forget that Sword/Whip Shrikes also chew through anything with an armour save quite ravenously so you won't be disappointed on that front either.

Childe, if it makes you feel any better, I started playing in 1979 when DnD came out, then discovered 40k in 1988. Avalon Hill games in between those years. I fought a friend who was a actual Rommel, cousin to the Fox of the Sahara himself, yet I was the yanks at the bastogne scenario, and held him and his panzers past his departure point, thus losing him the scenario!
(I guess it didn't run in the family)
Years later, in Germany, one of the guys in my unit had that same game and I played the Panzers, punched through his lines to the departure point ahead of schedule. LOL! what heady times!
Oh and I have a unit that helps get rid of ssword/whip warriors as they already fight at I-1,,,Thunderhammer/stormshields!

TH/SS Termies are what the 44 Devilgaunts or the 30 Gargoyles are for. No sense sending the Shrikes to die when the weaker gribblies could just tie you up for a few turns. Once the Termies are tied up and can't dedicate attacks to a new unit, that's when the Shrikes can go in and be more assured to come out on top. Should the Shrikes wipe out the unit, they would then consolidate toward the smaller gribblies which would in turn wrap themselves around the Shrikes, in order to give them a cover save.
That's the beauty of this game, there's always a paper for the rock.

Hence why I usually take a crusader or redeemer along. Special delivery vehicles for those termies.

EDIT: Hive-update:
I've now decided to use the liquid GS as an overlay on the surfaces I've green stuffed in the army, as it evens the surface out really nicely.
As the additional arms I ordered for my mama-Tervigon haven't turned up, I'm going to demand a refund and order some others from a different store. As I've had quite a nice Idea... but I won't say anything until its done. then you shall all bow down before my majesty and worship my Chitinous form

Its ridiculously easy to use. the only advice I can give is keep the layers thin, and all brush strokes in the same direction.
it just cannot in any way be used to replace standard GS. it is to help refine whatever GS you have done.
still a good idea imo tbh

No special brush is necessary tbh, all you need is a citadel standard brush (or equivalent sized brush). It washes off easily as well in just water. I think, but don't quote me on it, the LGS is water based. So if thats the case, it explains the easy clean up. the only thing I will say is, don't let it dry on your brush. Once that happens you will never get the use of your brush again.
in other news... I hate my head. It's gone off on one hell of a wobbler with my depression.

The LGS behaves like its water based, but I can't be a 100% sure... its like a thick emulsion paint in its nature.
Yeah I'm a long term depression sufferer, diagnosed recently but thought to have it since i was 10ish... I'm now 28. anything can set it off, but equally nothing at all can too. tis a bugger. but hopefully sleep will cure that for todays bout.
