Ran out of time to do much in the way of detailing, but I think it looks pretty effective anyway. Will get some pics of the whole board on Sunday or Monday as we are having a couple of gaming sessions.

Not really a fan of cars in 40k .. not gothic enough for my tastes but the weathering is top notch mate.. and the pile up looks amazing specifically in the low angle on the second photo down ..

Yeah the cars are a bit of a compromise, I really needed a lot of vehicles to make a pile up and though I'd rather use resin vehicles from Antenociti and Ramshackle but that's just too expensive, these vehicles were about £2 a pop. I think the wealthier residents in Necromunda might have private vehicles like these and I've tried to disguise the more obvious makes of car (by smashing them up).

Updates coming very soon, on my workbench at the moment is a 90% finished Van Saar gang that is almost ready for paint, a 50% finished Chaos cult, a scavvy campsite, an abandoned church of the Red Redemption and a few other odds and ends.

Here are the Van Saar miniatures I have been working on recently. I fancied a change of pace from the barbaric, close ranged pit slaves and so have tried to make a high-tech, shooty gang, so I came up with Strike Force Gold, part of the Van Saar Advanced Combat Engineers (A.C.E). The exclave exists separately from the other Van Saar territories in the middle of a disputed and extremely hostile area of the Underhive and is used to hone the combat skills of juves and gangers to create an elite unit. As such they are well equipped even by Van Saar standards, and have a large number of Van Saar trainees from other areas that are mentored by the veterans.



Three gangers, from left to right: Swindle, Diziet and Perceptor. Most members of A.C.E use call signs that are assigned by their instructor. Although only one juve is in the gang at the moment, there will be others pretty soon as I have rolled 3 Settlements.



The guy on the left and the guy on the right are not currently being used (guy on the right is a test model really). In the center is Fantomex.



Four juves, some wear the typical Van Saar bodyglove, but like most members of A.C.E they are gradually adopting the more rugged combat jumpsuits. Only second from the left has a place in the guild at the moment, she is called Sorry.



On the left with the missile launcher is Circle Breaker, in the middle is Leader One, the commander and chief scientist of Strike Force Gold. On the right is Hot Spot, the meltagunner.



Group shot, I've tried to make them all posed in ridiculously over the top action poses. Even the sniper is in full sprint.



I might start painting them today, going for a bright yellow jumpsuit with shiny black weapons. Bright yellow ought to stand out pretty well against the scenery we have. They also have a vehicle to transport them to the battle which I will paint up at the same time.

They look cool Brut! I remember Baiyuan mentioning using Elysian Drop troops for his Van Saar and thinking that was a cool idea at the time...you've pulled it off well with a nice mix of other bits in there too...

Really? I thought it seemed quite an obvious idea but I googled around a lot to try and find anyone else that had done it, a few people have talked about it but no pictures I could find. The thing that settled it for me was the running legs by Kromlech, when I saw them I thought they were just perfect for Necromunda and had to make a gang that used them.

Well very nicely executed mate, lookward to the paint job...

Cheers, painting is underway now - very bright yellow jumpsuits done with the airbrush -I thought it would be a quick way to paint them but looking at the amount of black that needs to be done for their gear it will still take ages.

Van Saars are the epitome of coolness, I love their slicked back hair and neatly trimmed beards, like aging hippies in brightly coloured jumpsuits. You just know they are the first in line to buy the latest iPhone but have no idea what most of the buttons do.

In all seriousness, I think Van Saars were always just let down a bit by some dodgy sculpts and paintjobs that made them look a bit garish, a bit 80s and a bit like a gang of dads having a midlife crisis which doesn't really fit in with the grimdark vibe.



Here's my test model, just completed. This is my least favourite of the conversions but I think he shows my reinvented Van Saar concept. Body glove swapped for a jump suit and a bit more of a scruffy look, but still keeping the awesome beards and bright colours. I might have overdone the weathering on this guy, and the paintjob was far more fiddly than I had hoped (I sprayed everyone with a nice bright yellow gradient but there is a lot of black to be painstakingly painted over the top). I'm quite happy with the overall look, the gang ought to be very distinctive on the table and a bit of a nod to classic Necromunda when put up against gangs like my gory pitslaves or my friends ultra grimy scavvies.

Like I said, you made me think twice about VanSaar, I never liked the sculpts but your versions are fantastic, loving the test mini btw, what head is that?

It's from Victoria Lamb but I added the beard and 'tasche myself.

well than great job, the facial hair looks like it was sculpted with the head!

After seeing Mecha-Gannicus sneaking up on the Van Saar in the last picture I couldn't resist making a quick photomanip of the two of them. My pitslaves would be right at home in Silent Hill.

Some more painting progress. Here are Swindle and Sorry from Strike Force Gold (and erm... test model guy) and their rapid deployment vehicle. In game terms the vehicle will just be some scenery to position in my deployment area or to represent a camp or whatever. I really love the Antenoceti vehicle - looks like it is straight out of Carmageddon) and wanted to make it fit in with the grim and gritty underhive.

In fact I have done more weathering on these guys than I first intended, after seeing them freshly airbrushed in a lovely bright yellow I was quite set on leaving them like that, like some of the shiny airbrush Eldar you see. But I couldn't resist making them mucky, and it's for the best I think, this way they look at home on the board. I am totally in love with the bright yellow jumpsuits though, and the Elysian models are just amazing - amazing poses, accurate proportions... they're everything the basic plastic guard infantry isn't.

By the way the bases will likely not be so wet looking, that is a special paint that is refusing to dry.

Never really been a Van Saar fan but these are pretty dam cool I have to say, plus the vehicle looks great in yellow, I would never have had the guts to paint mine that colour.
