Heh. I don't even need that much. My kids love the bones and they are minis that I'm not afraid they are going to break. Any that I don't want, they can have.

Backed. I'm finally not poor enough to miss out on this!!!

Right now I have the metal and resin Kraken sitting in the box still. It fits well, but it is HUGE. The body is about 8" long and each of the tentacles are a good 7 or 8 inches long. Balancing is a trick that I hadnt gotten around to yet, but in Bones...it will be perfect.

Add into that the hill giant who is swinging the tree trunk (that trunk is about 3 1/2" long) and you have another great figure in Bones which in metal is not optimal (though an imposing paper weight...or even door stop).

I am pretty sure that justifying a few hundred dollars on this wont be too hard.

Serious question: are most of you buying in because of the deal you're getting, or because of the quality of the minis?

I believe my customs on the last bones was 30 quid (that included handling fees) I had vampirs lvl plus 4 big guys and other stuff. This is one of the rare US KS I don't complain about P&P + customs due to the sheer value of the product im getting!

I know the minis will be a great deal, but with the wastage of stuff I don't actively want and unknown shipping and customs fees (Reaper declaring actual shipped value instead of just the pledge level) it might end up more sensible to pass

That's not a bad idea. These "bulk purchase" miniature KS are good for the creators, but not for some miniatures buyers. If you buy enough KS1 Bones and Reaper miniatures from their online store during their "12 Days of Reaper" special event, you'll not only get free shipping, but also a free limited edition figure and sample paint!

As for multiples, I'm noticing that Reaper's having more of them, which is *good* for wargamers who want to add these units for armies. So far, they're only including groups of monsters that could be used in both RPGs and wargames (viz. no dwarf or elf squads).

Honestly, quality.

For the large stuff that I will end up using, Bones is a great material and the level of detail is really close to the metal versions. If you are mainly after smaller items, than the material may not be ideal when compared to metal (or you might have swords which are too bendy for your own tastes) but in many cases I have to look rather close to see differences between painted Bones and painted metal.

To be honezt I jumped on an earlybird 1 due to the hype of what a good deal the figures were. Looking now theres probably 60/70% of the core package Im not interested in. Deciding wether to drop down to the min pledge for the addons I do like or wether to jump in on a darklands ks sweet spot deal

Cincy- for the vaaaaaaaaast majority of pledgers, it's the deal.

I was just talking with Wehrkind, who does casting and got the Bones 1 set. He likes them, but they are like toy dinosaurs. Sweet for some things, but you have to be honest about what you're getting. These are not hand-cast resin or hard-tooled polystyrene models.

Deal. But I'm a new painter and am an RPG'er without a regular group, so I'm buying these to improve my painting skills and have "just in case" for an RPG session (uh, huh). It's just easier for me to make a bulk purchase than pick and choose before I buy.

BUT I WANT THAT KRAKEN I DON'T KNOW WHY I JUST WANT IT THOSE MOUSLINGS TOO SQUEEEEE.

Customs charges are easy to calculate for the UK under most circumstances, it's the VAT on the declared value +£8 handling charge for the Post Office.

Assuming it gets picked up of course, I'm running about 33% pick up rate, but that's on a relatively small number of parcels (<10 that I can recall)

Bit of both - the price is right, and the quality is acceptable.

Actually, as an RPG-er with a small child, the material is exactly what I need. They don't break and they aren't sharp.

There is also an additional customs handling fee (the £8 is just Royal Mail) on anything above £135.00 although apparently this gets waived if the fee is under £9. Ive no idea how this extra fee is calculated but it is on top of VAT.

Should have my final charges through any day now. Bracing myself. But i want my BONES!

I'm getting in for a combination of both. I've long been a fan of Reaper minis for use mainly in Pathfinder/DnD, and the quality is fantastic in my opinion. But the deal you get with the $100 pledge as well as the add-ons is too good to pass up.

I didn't really pay attention to Bones I, but I will not let this one pass.

Well, the way the dollar is getting its arse kicked at the moment, £135 will buy a lot of Bones!

Both?

I love working with Bones. It's easily my second-favorite medium for minis. Most of the minis from the first KS had great detail and look just about as good as the original metals. There were a few horrifying exceptions, however.

As for the deal, I've painted more minis (mostly Bones) since my Kickstarter arrived than in the last 6 years combined. My wife is excited about painting minis again, too. I also got my nephews into painting minis by giving them a bunch of minis that I already had in metal or just didn't want as much as they did. There's a lot to be said for buying a good, cheap bucket of minis.

Anyone clearer than me on whether the expansions are only to core set pledges or can be added to the $1 pledge?

The stone giant is a good 3 1/2" to the top of his head, not to mention all the rest of the stuff in that grouping. Looks like it is going to be the $150 or so in order to help prevent run away costs on with too many freebies. Will be interesting to see how it is split up going forward (if more things get added to the regular core or if they have a price per figure number they dont want to drop below.

The expansions aren't bad, but it would be nicer to have seen them be more themed... e.g. undead expansion, monsters expansion, wild critters expansion, sci-fi expansion etc.

Seems like a random bundle of minis at the moment.

While I tend to agree, and have heard more will be clustered down the road, Reaper is largely a very random bundle of miniatures. No company still in operation has the same size back catalog of random everything from alien strippers to a Zombie Hitler to Mouslings...it is all very random.

TN/AL/MS state line.

So far I'm not too terribly interested in the expansion. I think I'll wait until one or two more are unlocked before I up my pledge another $50 for it.
As to whether I bought in for value or aesthetics... Both. If they all looked poor, I wouldn't buy in; if there wasn't enough I wouldn't either. I think that is probably how the majority of backers feel- there's a happy medium that reaper has found to draw in pledges.

The small stuff isn't up to the same level as more traditionally produced minis, but for the bigger monsters it can come pretty damn close. I know I've seen metal dragons etc. that weren't half as nice as some of these larger bones monsters (pathfinder red dragon is pretty damn good, for example). Will be a difference if you paint to very exacting standards but if you're going for the better end of tabletop they're nothing short of a dream come true, IMO. Certainly not comparable to any of the plastic dinos I've seen around here.

...and yes, I'm backing for the quality of the larger stuff in particular, in case anyone's still wondering
