This game has bad graphics? When did that happen, or am I not just insanely obsessive over having only the most detailed textures imaginable or something.
As an aside, I really like the dutch accent.

I already attributed it to my inner-metagamer: admittedly the problem is limited to given class setups, but why should I have to limit myself when my character is clearly a multi-talented genius?
I also neglected to add the Shouts; I felt a little torn talking about them. I've been told that once I've done the main story (and been made to feel fairly epic) they won't shatter my immersion so much but I don't know. I could contrast Skyrim giving you these abilities to Oblivion, where you just happen to be a 'normal' hero guided by destiny, but then Morrowind would be looming over the discussion, in which you're a freakin' God (though, that didn't really affect gameplay)!
The shouts were silly enough in my opinion that only one of my character (my assassin) actually followed the main story. I rather wish he hadn't because a sneaky wood elf isn't exactly a character type I imagine yelling FUS! It suits an adventurer I suppose and one could pretend a mage merely studies such things (after all, anyone can learn of 'the voice' apparently, it just comes more naturally to dragonborn). But it represented a unification of 'magical' skills between all my characters, when I wanted them to be purer in builds.

I like the perks just fine, but I honestly wish we were forced to pick core skills like in Oblivion and could only level up by progressing those.

Interiors are fine I suppose; unless you're silly enough to go stare at a bar or a table and notice how the textures don't really match up (big fat dividing lines going down them), or stare at a brick too close. I also think the lighting is off in some places, the most notable being the start section at Helgen when you come to the potion room; the fur rug under the table is literally GLOWING. Though, I will admit, that I never played the game in its vanilla configuration and instead used a fairly extensive tweak guide.

Not to hate but...
- The Setting: There are marshes, and forests and blah de blah. Travel around a bit. - The voices: To each his own, I suppose. The nords are supposed to be nordic. Just saying. - Hybridization: I don't get this. So you're unhappy that you're given options? You don't have to choose those other options.
Want to play a mage? Level mage skills and only perk mage stuff. Want to play a thief?
Level thief skills and only perk thief stuff.
Want to play a spell-sword conjurer? Level whatever the f you want and perk what you want.
- Graphics, I play on PS3 on a big freakin TV. Looks fine to me.
Anyways, if you don't like it, no biggie. I'm sure there are other games for you.
I, on the other hand, enjoy it and I'm still really only on my first character past level 10.

I never use the flashy shouts on my assassin. If I am exposed, I use the Marked for Death one and I just got Aura Whisper. Shouts are meant to be words of power, not 'shouts'.

Weird, I like the freedom to do what I want. Perks limit you so you cannot be the best at everything (max is something like 80 of 220 perks). Sure, you can max out all of your skills, but chances are you won't. Don't worry about all the choices and just focus on what you want to do.

Well as I said, I haven't despaired and thrown it into a bin yet, but I actually *can't* play it since my PC won't work. All I have to keep me sane is studying (does that work?) and Warhammer...
You find shouts immersion breaking for characters who wouldn't shout? Don't shout.
You find magic immersion breaking for characters who don't use magic? Don't use magic.
I have a level 50 thief, I had a level 32 paladin (RIP) and a level 11 mage that don't stray at all from their archtypes. My unarmed character is just for funsies though and he dabbles in everything.
Thank god there's no character classes. I'd have to start over from focusing on stupid crap. Now I can just reprioritize my skills. I just get better at what I'm doing most....you know, like irl.

Heh I'd originally wanted to play an unarmed monk because unarmed was actually fairly good in Oblivion; unfortunately that char type seems to be impossible to make a build for.
I get that people want to defend the game when they like it and perhaps you can spin it as a character flaw of mine that I worry I'll branch off into things, but the fact that it's there is still a problem for me.
Especially when I'm exploring dungeons and find a word of power; how can I RP that one? When my character starts drawing magical energy from the darn wall?
Guess I just have to shrug and accept that they're dragonborn... but absolute douches who abandon the just cause against the dragons and run off to join the stormcloaks/winterhold mage guild

Actually, you can do that pretty easy with a Khajit and heavy armor gloves with the perk.

That's actually a major RP thing that people in this thread have been advocating... Characters that skip the main story and do what they want in the world. The great thing about the game is that this works well.

Couldn't understand why he didn't just meteor the undead before his guys got slaughtered.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I wanted to find a system without having to consult google though. I know I can find the ingredients there, I just wanted a way of doing it without checking the internet every 2 minutes.

I think, Henners (and excuse me for continuing the convo) that you shouldn't look at Oblivion as the thing to compare Skyrim to. In my mind, it's much more the sequel to Morrowind than Oblivion.
Oblivion was a generic Fantasy setting, with a generic Fantasy hero. Oh, sure, it had the Elder Scrolls leveling system, and Khajiit and Argonians and all, but the story was Generic. Portals to hell are opening up, and it's up to you to stop it.
The biggest difference between Oblivion and the rest of the Elder Scrolls games, however, was that you weren't the Hero. You were a lackey to the hero. Martin Septim was the hero. You were just some schlub who happened to be in the right jail cell, who the Emperor decided to help out. Maybe you were destined to help Martin win, but you were never destined to do anything more.
In Arena, you're the only one who knows what's happened. You are the one who must find the seven parts of the Staff of Chaos and defeat Jagar Tharn. In Daggerfall, you are the one that decides which of the 8 paths is taken, who activates the ancient Dwemer God. In Morrowind, you are the Nerevarine, prophecied reincarnation of the ancient hero of the Six Houses. In Skyrim, you're Dovakhiin, last of the dragonborn- the only man/woman alive who can permanently kill dragons.
This is where the Shouts come in, and the ability to pretty much do anything. You're Destined, and the universe is going to do its darndest to make sure you fulfil your destiny- but your character can shrug it off, and say "Who cares?" You could avoid Word Walls if you want, with your character being 'creeped out' by the weird magick.
Anyways, that's my take on it. Skyrim is more Evocative of the Elder Scrolls' spirit, because you're a major historical figure.
The textures- well, something had to be sacrificed, and like you said, there's gonna be mods for that.
I actually think the draw distance was something intentional. If you look off into the distance in the real world, you can't see everything in crisp detail- atmospheric scattering, dust, moisture all fuzzes the image as well as turning everything more monochrome and bluish as you look farther away- so, they did that with the game engine- and in Skyrim, instead of the sort of secondary, less detailed maps they used in Oblivion, everything you see is actually there. It's an impressive engine, really.

That vid was epic! That's the kind of battles I want to be in, that makes the civil war storyline "fort-fights" look like a tiny little punch-up compared to that...
