Subject: Making Daemons, Sculpting And Casting in Resin. 2 part moulds and block moulds. (updated OP)
After a huge mega break of about 7 years from Table top games i decided to get stuck back in. But i wanted to start fresh even tho my eldar keep taunting me.
So i've got myself started on a Death Guard army. However i wanted to keep costs down. So i Started making some stuff myself.
Here i'm making Lesser Daemons for CSMs as they had a genric stat line and therefore i couldn't justify using Plague Bearers in my eyes. So i started to look at what smaller less powerful daemons would be.
++++Edit++++
Down and dirty quick overview below.
++++Edit++++
And made a video showing how i sculpted them.
Parts 1 & 2 below.
and below is a taste of what its about before you waste 20mins of your life
hope it's of use to anyone looking to do something similar.
+++Update+++
Taken the sculpted models to finished resin casts using simple moulding systems.
end results below. Lighting isnt great on these cream coloured models. I'll paint some up soon.
+++++DISCLAIMER+++++
Its way way illegal to recast any company models fro sale. They wont be too happy and you'll mostly likely be caught as you sell to players etc.
You cant make your own models and 'call' them say Khorne Champion or Eldar warthlord As this is still selling under a companies IP (intellectual Property).
Even models that look sort of similar are suspect.
You can make your own models (original ideas) and call them something unrelated to any other IP and sell them if you like.

Cute! their meant to be evil! Well I might give out a few squads if they cast ok. I alway mix too much resin when pouring other models and tend to fill whats lying about.
@ChaosMessenger I used Super Sculpey. Its a polymer clay of sorts. Easy enough to find. Think it's a US product but you can get it in UK without issues.
I like the "sitting dealing", tipical of Nurgle's theme.
A sort of oozy-toad-like beast it's alwais on theme but be carefull adding teeth (as I suppose you have to do filling the holes on the under lips). Otherwise they will really risk to look alike squigs. Maybe you allready have finished them, I can't see the videos from here.
Besides, no arms? At all? This will help making them looks like squigs even more.
Something interesting when modelling Nurgle's things is that starting from a realistic creature we can deform it putting on her skin any sort of desease, blight, infect injury etc etc.. finally, however, we almost should understand what they were before the big boss blessing.
In this case I only think at squigs. Unfortunately.
In fact even the little Nurglings have alwais arms or tentacles that were arms in the past.
Try to add something like this on your models and you'll be ok.

Yeah I think something like that might work. I'll give it a go it's not the end of the world if they need redone. I didnt see the squig relation too. They are meant to be more like frogs/toads and yeah i guess front legs would help sell that
I think those nurgle toads look awesome.
Maybe try your hand at a nurgle greater demon next? (A huge nurgle toad )

Thanks guy glad you liked them, I;ve been jamming front legs on them tonight so they look a little different. But i think the feedback about that was spot on they do look better for it.
@Perkustin Aye, there seems to be a few of us lurking about here and the ball bearings - they are barbells for piercings. Get them in all sorts of sizes you can jsut buy ball bearings tho but i found these are cheaper.
@jackal cheers mate glad you like them enough to pay for them but i'm happy enough to hand them out for free. If you fire me an address i'll send some out when they are cast.
Nothing in life is free mate and i expect things to work that way Drop me a PM with what armies you collect, i can atleast throw stuff your way in return
Perkustin wrote:Watched a couple of your other videos and i must say i am intrigued by the 'not-Rhino' and the 'not-Defiler' you have in the works.
Cheers for the interest, it's going to be a long project but i'll try to keep it up. I started a WIP for the army if you fancy a look at the finished painted daemons.
hungryp wrote:Always nice to see a decent sculpt take form. I just wish the off-camera stuff wasn't quite so...off camera
Ah, yeah i would like to show the whole thing but i feel it's too much for someone to sit and watch. my first vid was 30mins of dribble so i made an effort to slimline the next and tried to stop swearing... Things you dont notice until you hear yourself ;s
Cottonjaw wrote:Are these for sale/commission?
Originally they were just something i wanted to do. But yeah I've had a few trades that went well.

Very useful, I am about to try casting myself so this gave me some things to take in mind.
