Hi there! I am new to the Warhammer 40k universe, and tabletop gaming in general, save for some experience in Mechwarrior: Dark Age.

My question is this:

In my preliminary research for a starter army I see many mentions of Long Fangs in the Space Wolves army. However, I cannot find any to purchase online. I've spent some time searching so I've pretty much deduced they're either really popular and out of stock everywhere I've looked online (including games workshop), or maybe they're no longer used? Are they no longer tournament legal? I doubt it. Any tips on how to locate some? Maybe just wait until they're back in stock (aka will they be restocked at some point in the near future)? Perhaps they're like a part of the basic troops set that I can modify? I have yet to even see a warhammer product in person so I have on idea if that's the case. Like I said, I'm new to this.

Thanks for your help!

Long Fangs are simply the Space Wolf version of Devastators. If you buy the Space Wolf Pack, you'll have plenty of extra bits to make the Devastator kit look more like Long Fangs.

Thanks! So my next question-how do I denote them on the battlefield? Buy the Space Wolf Pack and the Space Marine Devastator Kit and just use the shoulder pads and whatnot to make them essentially space wolf devastators aka Long Fangs? Or am I missing some pack on the website that I fail to see. Sorry again for these noobish questions.

Welcome to Dakka!
and yeah, pretty much just make the Devastators using as much (or as little) of the SW parts as you want mixed in.
Good Luck!
(as a side note, you can just make them regular Devastators, and do the same with the rest of your army, but tell your opponent that you are using the SW codex and rules/units etc. this is an option if you dont want to have them all hairy and wotnot, totally up to you)

You really need nothing to denote them as Long Fangs rather then Devastators, since Space Wolves only have Long Fangs in their Codex. Although shoulder pads/heads/bits always add nice wolfy flavor to your army. If you plan on painting your force (which I hope you do) simply paint them in the Space Wolf colors.

Great! Thanks for the help. I'm gonna push my luck here and ask one more question about the army kits. Are the battelforces a worthwhile investment for someone starting out? I have a few army lists so I know in general what I want.

Also, one last question. where can I obtain more missile launchers or weapons I need? I notice the devastator pack only has one launcher. Some of these blogs say to have like 5 or 6 for this and that army, etc. etc. Do they just buy a lot of packs or is there like a weapons only product?

Battleforces are a good investment in that you get discounted prices for purchasing in a bundle - the only downside is getting a few kits that you may or may not want. The Space Marine Battleforce is not bad at all, but you will be lacking with Space Wolf related bits.

The 10-man Tactical squad box comes with a Missile Launcher, but I think the thriftiest option is to go to ebay, and try and buy some Assault on Black Reach Missile Launcher guys. You may not be able to buy him individually, but the whole squad of 10 from Assault on Black Reach is usually far cheaper than the squad of 10 from the regular kit.

There are a number of sites where you can order individual 'bits'. I would recommended using this method, as if you use the black reach method, all your longfangs will look the same.

Hey
Welcome to Dakka!
I'd try a bitz website (or the swapshop), its the only way to get what you want without having to get whole other sets just for the launchers.
