So my most current project that still hasn't gotten done is my Nurgle defiler. I'm not sure what direction I'm heading in with it anymore, But here is the overall process I've been through so far:
Step 1: Basecoat of Calthan Brown on everything except the claws/guns
Step 2: Camo pattern with Catachan Green, Vermin Brown, and Scorched Brown.
Step 3: I didn't take a picture of this step, but here I drybrushed a layer of 50/50 Kommando Khaki and Bubonic Brown, and then speckled little bits of Vomit Brown in random spots.
Step 4: This is where I'm stuck at now. I drybrushed an equal mix of Camo Green, Kommando Khaki, and Graveyard Earth, inked it with Gryphonne Sepia, and drybrushed it again with 2:1:1 Mix of Camo, Khaki, and Graveyard.
Next I need to ink it with Devlan Mud, possibly drybrush it one more time, and then start working on the guns and claws and what not. Anybody have any ideas to add to this? I bought some green stuff and have no clue what to do with it.

I like the color scheme, and I think your plans for the devlan mud are a good idea. As far as greenstuff goes, you really just have to experiment with it. It might look good to cover up some of the joins where the arms and legs meet the body at the ball joints with a fleshy pattern. It really depends on if you want to keep a more mechanical look to the defiler or if you want a more possessed version. Greenstuffed symbols of nurgle on the armor plates would also be cool.
But job's a good 'un so far!

Liking the colour scheme so far. I have pics of a Nurgle Defiler that I have recently finished in my gallery, it might help inspire you. I didn't GS anything major just little bits and pustules which are well easy to do.

Also, this was the first model that I painted, a Nurgle Rhino. Its definitely not the best, but I'm trying to make my Defiler look like a better version of this style.

Well, so far it looks nice and old and weathered. But if it's Nurgle, you'll want lots of rust, and almost definately puss and other disgusting things dripping down from and oozing out of most if not all joints. This is where the Green Stuff comes in! You can slap on a wad of GS pretty much anywhere, since so much of Nurgle is random pestulence, and mold it to look like guts, tentacles, random eyeballs, rust, thick globs of puss from infection or a swarm of insects or something! There are at least dozens if not hundred of examples here on Dakka that show just that, and I'm sure many tutorials on how to go about sculpting if you haven't done it yet. Good luck, keep it up, and have a good look around!

Hmm. I might try that Nurgle symbol idea. That sounds like fun. I was thinking that instead of a fleshy lookin thing, I might just make little spiderwebs on all the non-moving parts, and maybe sculpt some mean-lookin boils and teeth around it. I personally like to work on cars and such, I dig the mechanical look.

Thanks man, I have been hating on that Rhino since I painted it. Something about never feeling like it's done. I'm glad you like it though, that makes me feel validated in leaving it the hell alone. Haha

I actually bought some stuff from the craft store where you paint on a layer of this liquid that turns to metal, and then another liquid that rusts it. I plan on that being the last step. I'm definitely going to try my hand at sculpting, I just hope it turns out alright. I'll search for some guides.

I'll let you know when I get home. Its really just absolute genius in a bottle. I used it to rust out the underside of my ork trukk, and I was expecting just the color of rust, but nope, real, textured, smelly rust. I love it. I think the same product line has antiquing liquid (To get that old bluish calcium color), and a stone one too. Automatically Appended Next Post: RSJake wrote:Never heard of the liquid metal/rust stuff! What's it called?
Okay, so Im home now. This stuff is called Sophisticated Finishes, the company is Triangle Crafts. The Rusting kit comes in a box with Iron Metallic Surfacer, and a bottle of Rust Antiquing Solution. I bought it at Michaels for somewhere around 12 bucks.

Stop hating the rhino! for a first model it's pretty damn good! I've always been a fan of non-random-pestilence-everywhere nurgle, which you have achieved quite well on the rhino!
Looking forward to seeing more work on the defiler!

While it can look cool, you don't have to go way overboard with Nurgle conversions. Maybe some slime dripping from the end of the barrel. Maybe a few bloated corpses on the base. Some flies crawling over the hull. Stained 'foot'prints. Disease isn't always visible; show the aftermath and the other things disease brings

Aw thank you. I agree, I just want to get really good at using paints to convey what I want before I go all nuts with green stuff. I want to make things look cool on their own, and then experiment a bit later. I think I did pretty damn good for a first model too, but I'm a harsh critic on my own work, Everything from then on must be at least twice as good.
RSJake wrote:Awesome! I'll have to look into it! Do you have some pics of what it looks like yet?
Hmm, another thing I can get for ya when I head home. I need to do one more layer of rusting, but I'll take a few pictures for you of my trukk. It's pretty interesting stuff. I had painted my trukk to look rusty, and now it actually is rusty. Love it. Things like this make me wish I lived closer to the craft store. :p

You and me are on the same page here. I dig simplicity. I think you'll be pleased with the way it turns out. This is pretty much what I was going for in the beginning, and I lost track for a while, but now I think I have a pretty good base of ideas to work off of now. I also went down to the GW store and painted there for a while. I got some pretty good ideas from the guys down there too.

Uhhhh, so.. I have really been procrastinating. As a punishment (and treat) for myself, I decided to stay up until 8 in the morning to paint this sexy guy, who I call "Mr Clean":
I feel like I've been getting much better as a painter lately, but I forgot the one and possibly most important rule of painting.. Use good lighting! After scoping him out a few times in the daylight, I realized that I missed a pretty decent amount of details. Looks like I'll be up again patching him up. But any constructive criticism is appreciated.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yeah, and I have some pretty sweet ideas for the base, I am looking to get this guy into tip-top shape for my store's painting competition. This will officially be the first model that I have finished, or at least gotten comfortable enough to stop messing with. I should win a trophy. Haha.

Aaaaand, for your viewing pleasure.. I present you with a REAL vietnam-era tank. Fully-operating bad-assery from one of the local mechanics.
And an update from me, I can't seem to keep a handle on one project at a time. My orks are still just primed black, I've taken over my boyfriend's Nurgle army entirely, and I have entered the world of Fantasy riding on the coat-tails of my Vampire Counts. Not to mention I've had my eyeball on some of those new Dark Eldar models.. Anybody else going through a hard time picking a project to work on?
