Australia

--Background--
The soldiers of the Imperial Guard, the human face, stalwart backbone and unshakeable unmistakeable armoured forces of the Imperium of Man.

None demonstrate these traits more, than the men and women who herald from the barren, sunburnt, storm scarred Death world of Australis.
Founded during the time of the great expansion Australis was originally a penal world, however shortly after its founding the world was cut off from the imperium by a
series of violent warp storms and subsequently assumed lost. With the dissipation of the warp storms the world of Austalis has emerged a victorious thriving asset, the
violent nature of the planet has made the soldiers of Australis perfect candidates for special imperial forces, although they lack the mechanized units much favoured by
many Imperial Guard armies they make up for it with a grim determination and their toughened resolves.

--Content--
This is the begining of an ongoing project, for an imperial guard army themed after the fighting forces of the Australian Army, Navy, SASR and Airforce.

At present I am waiting on some new resin heads from Maximini though in the mean time I have begun collecting miniatures. I have also started my test painting
for the army schemes.

Never one to enjoy an empty post without soemkind of pic (though it does happen) here are some starter pics

Concept for theamry colours. (not paint colours, banners and cigarette "colours").

This banner features the badges of;
SASR "Who Dares Wins" badge.
Commandoes 1st recon.
1st Infantry
52nd Armored"Fear naughts"
The Rising sun
and other Australian flag features such as the Union Jack and the Southern Cross.

As well as the universal Imperial Guard Badge (centered over the Rising sun).

Transport.
The First of what will be Two Valkyries.

Yeah I realise I missed one of the pillars and it's still base coated I will fix that.

Ok so the paint scheme for the amry will be a desert colours through to arid camo, and light olive greens (standard troops).
CnC welcome.

Very good idea mate, if I had better painting and modeling skills, I would totally rip off your idea...

But, I don't, so...I won't!

Keep up the good work...although personally, I'd stick to only one or two actual images on the banner. I reckon that the rising sun under the eagle does enough...Damn, that looks really good though!

Hi mate - paint job is solid, nice weathering effects on the rivits etc, and I like the free-hand banner on the side.

I also like the windows - is that a gold tint?

Looking foward to seeing some troops.

Also - as an Aussie, I would totally support that flag to replace our current one (even given the Union Jack is still on it!)!

Yeah I had to have the Rising sun it would have been wrong to not put it in there dead center larger than life!

- Heads -

Yeah light horse are in for sure just looking for a decent horse model to use really not super happy with the GW ones, I may end up with some from a historical game or modelline.
Oh and yes I know the movies haha.

It's a custom gold made from badmoon yellow bolrgun metal and white then washed with a 50/50 devlan and black wash. then sprayed with black form a back 45 degree angle to shade it.

Heads will be a couple of weeks according to Maxmini, in the mean time I ahve started on a Storm trooper unit to go with the Valkyrie.

Cheers for checking in mates!

Cool

On your rough riders maybe instead of horses you use these motorbikes:

I actually thought of that moon idea but was gonna call it Tasnia with the only other habital planet in the same system as Novus Zealus
But I like the rivalry thing might add that in some how.

I'm thinking about using the forgeworld death corps rough riders as a base for the Aussie ones, the hores is a normal horse only wearing
face armor and the riders has usable legs for an easy conversion ontop of that they cost roughly the same as the normal roughriders which are crap.
but the light horse will be entering the army after the core units are done so I have soem time to get them organised and done right.

There is a Aussie wargaming company that did some light horse in 2009 and though they seem to be still in operation there sight is f-ed up and is showing no products.

From Wartimeminiatures.com.au (though the page is dodgy, I sent them an email asking abotu the mini's).

The troops will have custom torso's made having kit and packs on them either made from scratch via GS or a combination of existing packs and GS straps and belts so
that each soldier will be carrying his own patrol kit.

As far as arms go there will be a combination of standard Cadian arms and Catachan arms with GS short (rolled) sleaves, with the legs standard for the most part.

I have a medic somewhere who is leaning down handing a blood pack to a wounded trooper, I was thinking of shaving a grenade (the SM one with the ring pull on the top)
and have him handing the soldier a beer. Humor aside I was honestly thinking of this until I fell on the idea of doing Samson and his Donkey as the medic for the HQ.

Tell me what you think, I'm tryign to nail all the ideas down before I kit out fully on this army. Only terminators left on my Legion of the Damned and just need those resin kits to get here
from the UK, then it's on for young and old.

Oh and who said Kangaroo's? gah can you imagine it, bad... just bad .... no beers for you! (can't shake the image of an IG sniper poking out of the pouch Roo in a mid bound pose all armored
with IG banner flaying from a back harness...but not in a good way.

Next you'll be telling me to use giant Koala bears for Orgyns...... before you ask, No... Well hmm let me think about it.....still no.... hmmm... no can't see it happening sorry no Roo's or Koala's
unless it's a pet or on a flag. *wipes the sarcasm of his lip*

"although they lack the mechanized units much favoured by many Imperial Guard armies" you say... any chance for a Warhammer variation on the Bushmaster PMV? It would be big enough to count as a Chimera, and it pretty much iconic for today's Australian Defense Force. Just a suggestion though, I am sure there's a lot of lighter hardware to be used as inspiration. There's a flatbed variant that would look great turned into an artillery or air defense platform, similar to World War II German Sd. Kfz. 7 with 2 cm Flakvierling mount.

Loving it! Got a good amount of humour (or will have i hope! ) as well as being a solid concept.

The flag is sweet, but i feel it could do without all the extra little symbols, perhaps save them just for their respective units/transports?

The heraldry on the Valk is top-notch, is that free-hand?

The ST looks sweet, love the subtle camo but imo the fatigues could do with being a bit darker or a different colour/tone/shade to the armour, just to split it up a bit!

Lol, IG in Roo pouches Seriously though, it sounds about as believable as Thunderwolf Cavalry (which is to say very, i like TWC and i demand Roo-riding Aussie IG! )

I actually had these mini's in my hand about 4 days ago at a shop called Tactics, they are not too bad but costly and only coming in a blister of 8 (at least thast all they could get)
is a bit of a shame, that said they may be useful as a small unit such as vets. It's awesome that you even thought about the army mate thanks again.

You mean this fella

We also now have these guys as well... the Hawkei

Allready on it these Okka style transports will make somekind of debute as Chimera likely only one for the command squad however. I have thought about having a artillary tank my only
issue is losing the strength via troops feel, I just don't want to go overboard with armored units certainly there will not be (at this point) a Baneblade (sigh I really want an excuse to buy one).
minimal armor maximum Flash lights!

Flag is based ont he Cadian gate banner

Yes the badging on the Valk is freehand (and also lop sided haha I have 6 flames on one side and 5 on the other I need to fix it.
I also need to redo the wording on it to be clearer on each side.

Camo is based on the actual SASR, but yes a little more tone on the fabric wouldn't go a stray.

As for Giant Roos for bounding sentinals hmm maybe make some kind of sentinal converion but not a living hopping critter.
I can not bring myself to model that, next thing I'll be making hoop snakes and drop bears.

Well, if you'd ever want to make an expy of mechanized ADF, there are enough cheap M1A1 kits on the market to let you make a fitting Baneblade. For your current army though, a Bushmaster command vehicle and some light armored cars as Sentinels would probably suit you better - maybe some up-armored Desert Patrol Vehicles or Land Rover Wolf WMIK almost-technicals even.

How about using the FW Centaur rules for LAVs, seem a bit more fitting than chimeras and can only hold 5 models.

I think there are rules on FW's site, in the IA5 pdf update.
