This thread is now a blog and will be updated regularly! Thank for all the feedback

Hello everyone,

I've been working on my own space marine chapter mixed with beastmarine parts. They are still loyalist, but the chapter has been mutated. I haven't worked on much fluff yet, but I've started in the models and one has been painted. I am unsure of whether I should continue with the paint scheme or not so I am looking for opinions on it.

Here is the first model, they will be based in a snow theme and the army will use the space wolf codex

It has been painted using jade green. Using Vallejo game colours, I didn't know that Gamesworkshop has discontinued jade green so I'm looking for opinions on this paint scheme to see if I should continue with it and order more of this colour online, or just change the scheme to an easier to get colour.

I have 7 other models completed, but I couldnt get pics of all of them so here is one of my wolf guard with powerfist who will be the sergeant of one of my razorback squads:

Opinions are greatly appreciated

Thanks

Oh very nice, I like that glossy green/teal colour you've got on the armor. What's the shading?

Not sure what it's called but I think P3 makes a Jade Green equivalent.

I really like the scheme and the paint job is excellent!

Neat concept, mutant but still loyal, kind of a lamentable underdog theme. Maybe they're searching for a cure to their curse?

Really like them, in fact I might have to 'half inch' em for one of my Slaanesh 'Vile Brood' faction units in my CSM army.

Excllent work though, very smooth conversions.

I take it this is a bull/minotaur version of the space wolves type thing but these guys have mutated a few steps on.

I think its really cool and will look very nice. I also like the fact that your keeping it as a loyalist chapter because I suppose the more obvious choice would be that its a mutated traitor legion, so that a pleasent surprise and one I doubt will have been done before.

Looking forward to seeing this progress

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback!

To clear up any questions about painting, these models have been paitned using the dipping method. That explains the shading.

The conversions are my favourite part of building an army and I really like the work this theme allows me to do.

The bits don't blend together completely, but I've done lots of hacking and greenstuff work to hide the changes I had to make. I'm glad they go together smoothly now.

I'm thinking about calling the chapter "The Herd of the Emperor." After their chapter was infected, the survivors were named as mutants and after several conflicts with the Ordo Hereticus, it was finally understood that they still remain loyal to the Emperor, however they must now go on a number of crusades to prove their faithfulness to the Imperium.

I'm working on painting another model, I have considered switching the paintscheme in order to save the bottle of Jade Green I have left. What I mean by this is that I might paint the jade parts bone and the bone parts jade.

I will do a test model tonight.

Thank you for the response!

Nevertheless, it looks very well, and the fluff sounds cool (though I am surprised the ordo didn't eliminate them!). Keep it up.

Thank you all!

I promise lots of shiny pics up tomorrow, I have an interview tomorrow so I'm preparing for that, but once it's out of the way I can start posting pics up.

To the person who asked, I'm using minwax antique walnut to dip.

I have a whole razorback squad of six built and three are painted now.

Does anybody know how I can transfer this to the painting and modelling blog section?

Just letting everyone know that this blog is being transferred to the blog section and I'll have pics tonight.

Lots of them!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are the three beastmarines I have painted and now based! I tried the technique of mizing modelling snow with PVA glue to make a nice snowfall look.

Also, as promised, here is the boar I have been working on for my Thunderboar cavalry. You may not notice just hpw much bigger thi boar is compared to the normal orc boar so I ave included a comparison shot below as well.

Comparison:

The hair I have sculpted came out a little bad in this picture but it blends in perfectly in real life.

The rider comes next!

I have also painted and dipped the "Alas poor Yorrick" marine, also known as Brother Yorrick. He is drying now.

Feedback is appreciated!!!

Thank you to the Mods for moving this to the blog section

I've gotten a fair bit of work done on the army so here's another pic update. I wanted to have 1,000 points painted for an escalation tournament on May 14, but I don't think I'll be ready by then.

Here is the boar with some paint on him, I haven't done much yet, but he'll be finished eventually. I;m pretty happy with how the sculpted fur came out, this is a close-up pic, but in real life it blends in much better

Here's a top view

Here's his rider, who will be my first count as Wolf Lord and my main HQ in 1,000 point games. He has a frost axe and a storm shield:

Here he is on foot

Here's the most completed squad I have so far. The marine in the back is the newest one and hasn't been based yet. This will be a 6 man razorback squad with a meltagun

Here's a closeup of the sgt

And finally, here is my first Longhorn model. I will have a few squads with missile launchers in my army. Since getting a hold of 15 missile launchers isn;t easy (or cheap) I have converted this guy using a vehicle hunter killer missile.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

everything is really really cool. one thing i would say though is that i think you should have 2 modles for your beast lord and beast lord on thunder boar. i just think that the on boar one you have at the mo does'nt do the awesomeness on the thunder boar justice. anyway just a my oppinion. subscribed and cant wait to see more

Read from start to finish, took time to check everything out.

First reaction I had yesterday remains the same- WOW! First off this is something I have never seen before. I've seen Beastmen in Traitor Guard / Chaos Cults, have seen them (or rather their heads) used as characters for Chaos Marines, but have never seen an entire Space Marine force comprised of Beastmen. So before anything else, that part is incredibly cool and original.

But wait! There's more!

The conversions are STUNNING! The amount of effort and skill you have applied to this project so far is admirable, and it really shows in the end result. No doubt every model in this army is going to be distinctly unique, very animated in their poses, and completely brutal.

One bit of advice on photography- don't have your primary light source behind your models, some of the pictures are coming out much darker than they could be.

My only "not positive" comment I have on your project is that I think you are doing yourself and your models a disservice with the dip you are using. Detail is being lost (though it may just be the darkness in the photos) and the "one size fits all" glossy sheen takes away from a stunning model and a decent paint job. I'd love to see what your work looks like before you dip it.

I'm not saying dipping in general is a bad idea, I'm saying that this particular dip or how you are using it is (in my opinion) taking your "end result" models down a notch on the awesome scale.

Hoping that last bit doesn't put off a negative vibe for this post, because it's not meant that way at all. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work and I'll be back!
