Subject: The Blood Disciples Chaos Marines. Aug 18th finished marines :)

Rough Rider with Boomstick
|
Hi Folks. Those of you that follow my other blogs will know that I have a huge backlog of stuff to get through.
With Throne of skulls out of the way I have started painting this backlog and part of that is a Chaos marine army my X used to use.
So Far I have done the first of 3 massive defliers each with 10 limbs (6 legs 4 arms) a rhino and five marines.
The paint job is simple so far I will get an army up to this standard then see what to do from there.
One Rhino
One Defiler
And five marines.
Whats your thoughts?

Sjet my Defilers are not quite normal they normally onl have 4 legs and 2 arms. I wanted 4 close combat weapons instead of the normal 2 but with the 4 big arms they were very front heavy it looked crap so I added 2 more legs aswell. As a new guy If you have any questions feel free to ask.
And yes they are expensive at the time I brought them they cost 70pound each I brought 2 defilers to make each one and I have 3 but I dunno how much they would cost now.
Im glad you like them
Bases will probably be dark brown dirt/sand with the burnt looking grass flock you can get.

Sorry for the lack of update this week. I have been mostly working on a commision doom wheel so I have not had much time for my chaos. I have done some more of the second defiler and washed the second rhino ready to have the details painted onto it. I have had 2 games now and won both of them against my mates space wolves. Tomorrow I will be playing against demons so we will see how it goes.

Hi folks. Sorry its been ages since I did an update Ive been busy starting a new job and every bit of painting time Ive had has been going into building and painting a new board for the club I run.
Anywho I have done a bit of my chaos today just working on a trio of rhinos.
Ive added a dust effect to the first rhino I think its nice but would like some feedback and I have taken a quick snap of the other 2 wip rhinos for you to see what I have been up to.
Note the doomwheel in the backround of the third pic, another reason not much has got done lately
Anyway what yall think?

Yeah mate I will take one for you might be a couple of days though as its to dark now for a good pic and I think ill be to busy tomorrow. All I did was cut the light joint of the engine that I had spear after making the body have an extra set of legs. Then glued that joint onto the side of the turret where the gun should be and slot the arm in just like the rest of the legs and claws. Ill get you a better pic so you can see what I mean.

The color scheme you have chosen really floors me, it's so absolutely awesome. Dark and basic but not simplistic in the least, the detail you've put into the shading and contrast is excellent. Very sharp lines, very gritty feel, completely "grimdark".
This is one of the better looking CSM threads I've seen in a while. Really looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Thanks mate thats some really nice things to say. I know its a bit lame at the minute because I am just doing rhinos and troops but thats for a tournament list I have got stuff like terminators and a traitor baneblade to do once the core is out of the way.
Here at the pictures of the joint from the secondary close combat weapons on the painted defiler as requested.
Hope that helps. Its just the joint cut off the front of the spare frame when extending the leg system.

Great conversions on the defilers! I, too, shudder to think about what that would cost these days.
Have you thought about adding some brown tones to your dust weathering? Right now it has the tone as your base color, just a lighter hue, so it looks a bit like highlighting, imho.
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Rawson

Hi Rawson Ill be honest the pics dont do that dust justice in real life it dont look like highlights its practicly white against a metalic brown base. Im afraid that if I added brown it would fade into the base colour to much and I dont want the army to look like they have been in dirt at all just rubble dust.
PS the defilers would cost £82 0_o

Fair enough. I also have problems getting the pictures I take to accurately portray the model. I think I'd rather spend my money on more models than image editing software

I am bumming that more people aren't checking this thread.
The metal work / weathering on the Defiler is sick. The joints and gears have so much character and detail in the wear and coloring. The way it is done adds to the "scale" effect as well and makes it look more realistic instead cartoonish.
Have you every thought about doing a tutorial for wash / weathering? Whatever your technique is, you've nailed it.

I to am bummed that more people arnt commenting but Im sure people are following.
The tutorial Ill have to take some pics but its all very easy really. Paint boltgun and really drench in wash just make sure to remove any buildups with an empty brush and with big areas like a tank do it as fast as you can to avid stain lines where you take to long to cover an area.

The colour scheme is really good, plain but effective!
I can't help but thinking that "Blood Disciples" is a bit of a misnomer for the colour scheme. They look more like metal-oriented. Something like the "Forge Brethren" or something to that extent may suit the army better.
Overall though the army is very well done so far and I'm suscribing!
Iranna.
