Hey there I am going to do a mini review on the new GK codex. Starting with Standard HQ's I will go through every unit in the book and a quick rundown on what they do. Now this is just my experience with the book and what I have found play testing. I am by no means an expert on Grey Knights and if you disagree with something I have written or see something a little differently then by all means tell me, just be nice about it. We are all here to get a better understanding of the book and some of the basics of it and it's toys.

This has been moved to my new website http://northernfrontwargaming.weebly.com/ it isn't much yet but it makes going through and reading about different units and finding what your looking for easier.

The same Old once who made orks, eldar and as a by product turned the wrap into a dangerus place. In short they where part of the fluff back in rogue trader days (0. or 1. edition.)

The problem is cortesan and not the monkeys. People have been dying to see them for years. Preferably in a Mike Mignola style:

Excellent write up. One thing I would add to the rhino section is that the trend now is leaning toward Purifiers/Combat squad PAGK in rhino's and having the 2 psycannons fire out the top. Much more effective then the psybolt razorback and something I think is worth noting.

Awesome write up but Servitors get an additional attack at Str 8 int 1 ignore armor saves because of the servo-arm, since they aren't armed with a power fist.

I love the Weaponsmith (who I'll model as some sort of Mechanicum model). I've got a unit of 11 Acolytes, 3 meltaguns and 8 stormbolters. The chance to get +12" of range on those guns is too good to resist! Not to mention the fact that he fire his own weapons.

Nice write up. Pointed out a few things I missed just reading the codex.

One more thing you may want to note as "pending the FAQ", in the henchmen section you ponder putting henchmen psykers with a culexus. One of the many arguments I've seen is whether this would work since they do not have the psyker special rule.

Anyone else get the feeling that the GK FAQ will be bigger than the codex?

Stern's Zone of Banishment doesn't affect himself.

Inquisitorial Chimeras don't get the option to upgrade to psybolt ammo.

It isn't Codex>Rulebook, it's specific>general, and it only works when there's an actual conflict, which there isn't in the case of Grand Strategy and Dreadnoughts. For more info, see the thread in YMDC.

Shield Breaker rounds only need to hit to destroy invulnerable saves, so even if your opponent saves the wound, you've destroyed the save.

Regarding DCAs: It doesn't matter if the IC has grenades or not, the DCAs won't get the benefit of the grenades anyway.

RAW psyker henchmen don't count for the Animus Speculum, as they're not psykers per se.

Terminators can go in three vehicles (five if you count the different LRs as different): Land Raiders, Stormravens and Chimeras.

Strike Squads, like Interceptor Squads, can deep strike. Not really an error, just thought it was interesting that you mentioned it on one but not the other...

Land Raiders (of all kinds) can take multi-meltas.

Otherwise some pretty decent advice IMO.

A unit of psyker henchmen counts as one psyker, for all purposes: "All psykers in the same unit are treated as a single psyker for the purposes of Psychic tests, etc."

I really like write-up's like this and I appreciate the effort you've gone to to create it, cheers!

My only complain is the presentation/format, as it's currently a large block of text, whereas if you were to compare it to Ketara's summary of the DE, it's hard to keep a track of things and find a specific unit. If you were to improve the presentation I think this could be an excellent resource...

I've been fretting about how i'm going to deploy my purifiers.
Firstly i wanted a Psycannon armed squad and a CC orientated squad in a Raven. The following is what i came up with, trying to maximise killyness for as few points a possilbe. (obviously with GK its a bit hard)

Rather than have one squad kitted out for each role. Halberds and flamers in one and 4x Psycannons and swords in the other. I'm going to focus on combat squads.

10x Purifiers w/ 3x Psycannons, 1x Incinerator, 4x Halberds, 2x Swords - 278pts
10x Purifiers w/ 3x Psycannons, 1x Incinerator, 4x Halberds, 2x Swords - 278pts

That gives me 2x 5 man squads with 3x Psycannons in each, and a 10 man CC squad with 2x Incinerators (in the Raven). Saving points on not buying halberds for shooty squads lets me buy an additional 2 psycannons (that i wouldnt be able to buy without combat squad), and as you know, they are always worth it.

I'm afraid though. that 5 man squads dont have the survivability that they should. Also, if i can find the points, a Hammer or two for the CC squad.

What do you think?

I can see what you see not.
Vision milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone,
whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be,
shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind,
cast down into the Halls of the Blind.

This could be the best guide ever. I wouldn't know. But I'd like to, you seem to have an idea where you're going.

But the spelling and layout is atrocious. I'm sorry, but it actually turned me off of reading it to the point where I gave up two paragraphs in.

I woulod recommend fixing that as your first step.

This bears repeating. If you want to say "wait for the FAQ" then that's fine. Don't show bias in your writeup.

Also, you say "Alright" too often.

Other than that, I like the advice.

Alright, you definitely say "alright" too much. Alright?

A good read otherwise.

The warrior acolytes have been pretty effective for me so far. I was initially only including them as I have a squad of ten left over from the daemonhunter codex and needed to make up the numbers. The hotshot lasguns are really very decent against MEQ's. Following some nifty use of a chimera as mobile cover and Coteaz's sanctuary power, they managed to wipe out two enemy units and hold an objective in my last game.

Chuffed.

I found that hot shot lasguns are not consistant enough for my liking, the 5+ to wound a MEQ really cuts into their effectiveness.

This.

Its getting really old seeing people think that codex > rulebook. Where did that idea even come from?

And as Wallrus said - the two rules don't conflict.

So I did some spell checks and editing, now how can I format this better on dakka, being right now one big lump of text is the only way I can see to do it unless I break it up into several topics.
