I started posting this in Painting and Modeling, decided it would be better off here as an army blog

So, thus begins my night goblin army, the Smurfs of Chaos. Here's my first 5 of like 300 models My goal is to finish painting everything before we all die in 2012



This is half of the first rank of Stabby Smurf's Boys, a soon to be horde of 50 Spearsmurfs. That's stabby smurf in there, second from the left. His bestest friend of all, Pokey Smurf, will be leading a similar horde one day...

Finally got some more done. I've mostly been building different models for the army to get em done, but I wanted to finally sit down and finish painting this first bunch that I started. So here's my first 20 models, the first 2 ranks of a horde of 50. But I grouped em up in a 5x4 block too, they look better all bunched up The guy with the sword sticking up is Big Boss Stabby Smurf, and the shaman on the end is Brainy Smurf. The fella with the smurfling tied to his spear is the unit's boss. He's a squig herder, but the herders with the spears and pokers really don't rank up very good, so I figured they would work good for spear unit champs so the spear can stick out in front.







Next I'm going to get my Arachnarok spider done, since I'm going to paint different parts and glue together at the end I want to get it out of the way before I end up losing some pieces

hehe no nurgle, The Smurfs of Chaos aren't actually a chaos army. They tried to be once, Popa Smurf ate a bunch of those funky cave mushrooms and forced all of his followers night goblin followers to worship Tzeentch once. But The Changer of Ways decreed that night goblins were just not evil enough, or magicy enough, so in disgust he he just turned all their skin blue as a cruel joke and told them to go away. They still try, and pretend to be chaossy, but in fact they are not at all.

Popa Smurf is an orc, I got the orc thats also kind of wearing raggy robes with the big bone log staff thingy.. he'll be the only real orc in the army, and he'll have blue skin and red robes. He actually came with a 20mm base, but aren't orcs supposed to be 25mm? he's not really gonna rank up right in a unit where every other model is on 20mm.. or would I just stick him on the side of the unit or something like that?

Really love the alternate skin color - and the contrast with the off/dirty white of the robes is really visually striking. looking forward to seeing more!

Been working on the Araknasmurf, got the spider done and the base is painted but lacking details, that'll be done at the end. Just picture him with a bunch of smurfs with bows and stuff riding on top

I used Desert yellow as the base color, and the skin part is P3 pink (Since GW had to get rid of Tentacle Pink) with red wash, then coated the whole thing with badab black wash. And then I did a drybrush of rotting flesh on the shell parts to give it that greenish look. and I used a teeny bit of gloss varnish to make the eyes sparkle

Must resist starting fantasy........

I love the 40K models but lately I just like Fantasy a lot more. Just something about a big block of models all ranked up nice and fully painted.. just looks so much better than a bunch of marines standing in some rubble.

So, it took like 3 months and I finally finished my first unit here's a horde of 50 goblins with spears. I have another pretty much identical unit to do also and that'll be the main core of the army, along with a unit of 30-40 archers.




I think next on the list I'll finish the howda and crew for the big spider. I was going to leave him plain for a storm of magic monster, but I think it'll look cooler with the guys on top. Also wondering if I should make his horns be more like black or dark gray instead of bone color since they kinda blend in now.

May I suggest a giant cat for your Storm of Magic monster not sure what stat line to use but something to represent Gargamel! Nice and bright scheme but wheres Smurfette?

I have the giant model for Gargamel, but haven't built it yet. I was going to give him hair with some greenstuff and paint his cloths black, and see if I could find a cat model to use for azrael but just to decorate his base.

I was also thinking a not-gargamel giant might be more fun, where he's got normal fleshy skin with blue splotches all over, and a bunch of snotlings with blue paint brushes and buckets of blue paint all on the base and climbing on him, like they were trying to make his skin look blue like theirs.

Ah so Gargamel's the bloke not the cat shows what I know. Although I still think a giant kitty would be fun. especially if given a howdah and used like an Arachnorak

There's black smurfs? Or do you mean I should add black orcs to the army and paint em the same? might actually be cool looking with blue skin and white painted armor that's all rusty and weathered, but I gotta get my first 200 goblins painted first not gonna allow myself to buy any new models for the army till at least most of what I have is painted up
