SO me and a bddy of mine have plans for a big big campain in the summer vacation and we are making a gaming table to play it on.. we chose for a desert themed planet to fight over and we both based our armies with sand to represent desert..

so first up I am trying to make some movable terrain pieces, not much expirience yet but its going quite well for now..
I'm making a larger building imperial one, and i m not shure what i will become or some kind of comms relay or a orbital defence cannon/laser.. i want a defence cannon but i cant find anything to represent turret or gun barrel for now so if i can't find anythin it will become a comm's relay..

kept in mind that a squad can easily stand in front of the building to defend it.. dev's shown for scale purposes only and are not included in kit
we are looking at the front of the building where i will put rihno doors from on top to make some kind of doorway into the building..




if you can see i already made some battle damage to the walls just poked it out with my hobbyknife

below am i making the walls, its not really good but i have to if i want to spraypaint it.. the foam burns away when you spray paint it.. so i attached cardboard to it..
and putted some sand to it to test the results.. i am quite satisfied
altough i am not shure of the battle damage.. will see how it turns out when its painted..

eeuuh.. i don't know actually it came from a box to transport a big flatscreen (not mine sadly..)

Nice progress, somewhere in the early vacation we might just get our asses behind the work table an make that relay! toothpick and their larger kin are always decent poles and or sensors, maybe if I can have it I might bring and a little plastic bowl wich we can use as a satalite sensor, also I can bring various bits from my collection of GW ruins then all we need is both a good full tube of PVA glue and some breakknifes to get the job done! after that we spray the building and finish it off with some very quick but good painting xD also washes will be very useful here

Update i decided to make the comms relay thingy

so i needed some framework and spare sprues come in here very handy !!
don't throw your sprues away one day you might need them like i did today

first pic: collecting and cleaning sprues



second and rest: i added a bit more cardboard and the door also plus some sand on the top you can see the satrt of the framework wich will be painted red and white
i used a razorback part to make the tube go in logically will add some big electric wires and stuff



will use a rihno part to makt vision slits in the sides.


it looks all a bit clumsy but i will finish the edges and so on + add more and more sand i haven't got a bad feeling about this one


what do you guys think?

looks like its coming along nicely extra sprue is fantastic for framework. I like the general shape of the building too. Keep it up

so last update for today:

started the framework and i can tell you.. it's tough as hell.. seriously but i realised that i need workspace inside the framework.. so i'm going to wait a bit longer to finish the frames

i adde some imperial eagles to the front and the side vison slits are mounted on beth left and right side

note: last pics i glued the barrels together to use them more easly it's really good to do everyone should do it it's realy practically

I love seeing a good piece of terrain put together.

Mainly because I can't make good terrain.

Barrels on top shouts orks to me, shame because I really like the work going on here, nice to see somebody attempting something i would never try at all, keep up the good work mate

Maybe put the barrels somwhere below xD

noo i'm not going to attach the barrels to the building.. it takes space where otherwise there could stand models and the barrels will be used in our games so we can replace them they ARE terrain the are not a part of it..

day 2 of the terrain making

after a rumble in my "basing-box" (all kinds of stuff i colected through the years)

i found a set of sandbags and was wondering if i could add them they are not glued in place yet so guys i need your opinions: should they stay or go?
also shuold a add something to the roof? as defence like a concrete fence thingy.. to hide behinfd you know what i'm talking about.. (no native english speakr )






i left just enough space in the center to field two "fat" guys and still stay in coherencey with other teammembers

Im curious about the long term plan with the cardboard then the seams. Do you plan to simply glue them into place, or some type of pin or tape to keep the edges from warping upward?

i glue them as best as possible and the little gaps will be carefully filled with greenstuff if that is what you mean

so last update for a long period end exams are close so i have to study so minimum time for my beloved hobby

so i finished up all the cardboard areas the building is paint ready i added most of the roof already.. as you can see
the whit plasticard is a shell inpact wich has been fixed with a steel plate-thing

what do you guys think? what should be added or removed??

That's pretty cool, especially the front-on pic with the devs. The sand bags and battle damage really give it a lot of character.

I geuss that after it has had it's details, it will be a very nice terrain piece just make sure that the 'base' edges look better than they are now

@rutger: yes ofcourse don't worry they aren't top priority atm.. they wil get their share

So it has been a while since I touched this thread
updates are: the first building is 90 % complete its completly sanded and only the comms tower isn't finished yet..
second piece As our campaign is being played by marines as well as Necrons and maybe even orks it thought about a multi purpose piece of terrain
1 scenario: a necrontic piece of stone.. like yeah you know the black ones from the army book or DoW dark crusade..
just found a pice of red oak and stuffed it to a piece of foam.. and already sanded it it can hold 20 infantry models and the stairs are a prototype wich turned out very well IMO

2 scenario: an ork holy stone, an holy place dedicated to Gork or Mork you cant see the ork things yet.. will post aobut them maybe at the end of this week or the next one

Ok the necron theme is easy, and yeah I guess that if the orcs found a rock that was symetrical they might think that as amazing and thus holy. Or they just might chew on it.

Good size and good work on the stairs, once painted it will have that nice, "OMG its a ruinic stone on a platform" look.

If not for the other greater important projects in my life I would probally be taking your ideas and running wild, thanks for inspiration when I dont have the time
