This army is set at the time of the Second Founding, so the traitors have just been pushed back to the eye of terror and the Inquisition is still in it's infancy. The reason behind this is to allow me a bit more freedom in representing the models in the army. It's more of a fun army than a highly competition army and I'm hoping to get as much character into the force as possible.

WIP Inquisitor Tomas Luceros.

This guy is a proxy of Coteaz in terms of rules so that I can get greater access to Henchmen Warbands to use as Troops.

WIP Henchman Warband

To back him up I'm making a points sink unit consisting of power armoured humans. This unit is made up of veterans of the defenders from the siege of Terra who are equipped with power armour and bolters.
The models themselves are made from FW MK II marines to give them an old armour look, I did try converting them to make them look less like marines initially but it didn't look right. So the idea is that this is a smaller lesser version of the Crusade armour, it's a little bit of a stretch to be honest but in the Heresy novel False Gods the Luna Wolves fought humans whose power armour was not that different to their own. To make them less like marines I'm giving a few of them guard heads and trying to make each suit look as though it's been highly personalised by the wearer.

Wow pretty interesting army idea. Beret henchman looks pretty slick and so do the other two FW marines (although legs/feet look a bit weird). How is the Resin Coteaz model?

WIP Truescale Grey Knights

To further add to the might of the force I've built a squad of Power Armoured Grey Knights to bolster them further. This is a very simple conversion based on the truescaling technique I created using terminators as the basis of the models. Initially I thought about all sorts of different ways of doing them but in the end opted for the simplest route and just used the terminator torsos unmodified. This allowed me to put them together really quickly and crack on with the painting.

Leading the marine element of the force is my proxy of Castellan Crowe who is also in power armour. I've also included some shots of one of the Warrior Acolytes to give you some sense of size and show in detail a little more of how I hope to distinguish the two.

Cheers mate.

The coteaz model was really nice and really easy to convert. There is no way I'd have attempted this kind of conversion with the old metal model because it'd mean drilling out the head but this guy only took a few minutes and the coteaz head is still intact.

WIP Inquisitorial Shuttle

Rather than try to scale up the storm raven kit I'm going for a simple compromise and simply stretching out the kit a little so that it can be used as a warp capable shuttle for the Inquisitor or the henchmen.

In this next shot I have few of what will be some more regular Hench men armed with Hot shot lasguns. The guy in the power armour was originally going to be the corteaz proxy but after getting my hands on the Coteaz model itself the plan changed.
The henchmen are second edition plastic storm troopers that I'm modifying to bring up to date a little by adding more recent guard heads and resculpting some of the detailing a little.

Lastly for now I have a slightly blurry picture of what will be a Psi-Knight titan piloted by an Inquisitor. In game terms it'll be a Dread Knight but I thought this might make for a fun addition to the army. I was originally going to use it for my Pre-Heresy Iron Hands but to be honest I think it'll fit better in this army.

I love it. The inquisitor and marines look great, your stormraven conversion is excellent, and even your dreadknight looks good. Props for the oldschool stormies, I think the minor conversions you gave them helped a lot.

Everything is looking great, the gk look much more bigger and meaner than the weedier warriors. I must admit the ease of conversion possibilities with the resin models does sound very attractive for armies like this.

Cheers guys!

I must admit I'm having great fun with this army. The old school storm troopers have stood the test of time extremely well even without converting them to be honest, you can see the basis of the modern cadians taken root in them as well.

The new resin models, if you get some good ones, are a real treat if you are into converting because it is some much easier to work with than the FW resin or old metals. It would have been a major hassle to convert this if he was metal but as it stands this was seriously easy.

Hear what you're saying on the stormtroopers. Think they came out at a time when i was away from the hobby and missed out on them - they look great!
Also i love your humans in power armour. They look like they are very much inspired by original artwork from Rogue Trader, which is a definate thumbs up in my book. Looking forward to seeing the retro feel of this army develop. Am hovering over the subscribed button, but that seems to be the kiss of death to any project i add!

Thanks mate.

Yeah RT is certainly the inspiration behind a lot of the models in this army and I'm relying heavily on it for the PA guys to make them look less like marines with berets stuck on.

Press away mate, maybe it'll inspire me to try and break the curse!

Bit more of an update.

Started on what will be a proper Inquisitorial retinue rather than the warriors of the other squads. This first guy would actually make a great IG colonel and is a very simple conversion using the head from the Empire Great Swords kit.

This next guy is basically made up from left over parts. I've bulked out a plastic wfb chaos warrior head and come up with a great solution at the same time as how to make the power armoured guys looks a little less marine like as well using the rebreather pack from the FW renegades as a power pack.

Here's a group shot of what will be the freak show.

Cool retinue. I guess Lelith is going to be an assassin? Looks like she could use a bit extra stuff to make her less dark eldar and more imperial

Great start; the upscaling on the Grey Knights works well. I really like your Coteaz conversion, too. He looks like he has a lot of authority.

Kenshin620: Yeah completely agree with you there mate, trouble is it's such a nice model I'm a bit reluctant to alter it.

Magos Explorator: I must admit he just started off a way of including henchmen warbands as troops but he's rapidly become my favourite of the force so far.

Quite update

I've finally got a look to these guys that I'm happy with now that is sort of marine like but different enough for me to get away with using them as humans. This wip guy has an old school Ork plasma gun courtesy of Retrograde over on B&C which I'm a big fan of.

Basically I've just removed the back pack and replaced it with the fw chaos renegade rebreather like I did with the guy above. I'm really liking this guy so far and he sort of has a gears of war vibe going on. The paint job on these guys is a little messy to be honest but I'm having fun with them and can clean them up later. Luckily I have enough of the renegade torsos knocking about so that I can do the whole squad like this and am seriously tempted to make some more.

Bit of an update with some dodgy pictures that have come out a little too dark but I'll stick some better ones up later.

Got the second pack on and am now in the process of cleaning up the paint work on both models. Still need to blend in some of the harsher areas where I was just slapping the paint on but they should look quite nice when finished.

I came across this next guy sat in the bottom of a box gathering dust and looking a little sorry for himself. Back in the days of Inquisitor I bought the rule book that came with eisnehorn and some ex-guard guy. At the time the models were incredibly hard to come by so in order to finish my little band of adventurers I ended up diving into the bits box. I built the eisenhorn model pretty much as it came in the box, the guard got converted into an Arbite Investigator and they were joined by an Inquisitor scale Tau firewarrior in a stealth suit along with a gun drone and this brute.
I used the ghazghkull thraka model as the basis of this monster and turned him into an arco-servitor to back my little gang up. The arms are currently held on with blue tak at the moment but I'm considering revamping the model, slapping him on a larger base and turning him into a dreadnought proxy. This is just ifs and maybes at the moment though as he may be a tad too small.

Man, you've been busy! I got too many things to comment on. Top to bottom......i like the "colonel" guy. He looks great, but because of this I'm not sure how he's gonna sit as part of a retinue? He looks like the bossman. I guess its a fluff issue. In much the same way i have an issue with the other guy. Whats he gonna be? I haven't got the new GK codex so have no idea what the new henchman types are but looking at him i would class him as an executioner-type. Yeah, see? i like him now :-)

Moving on, i got a lotta love for your human PA guys with the new backpacks. Plasma guy looks ace, really like the paintjob. Can't wait to see the whole squad together, and what you do with the big old robot.

And finally, a self centred and completely throw away suggestion based on the retro feel. In the back of my head i remember an image form Rogue Trader (my copy isn't to hand at the mo) of a dude who looked like he was wearing a bit of a bird-like beaky respirator red lens googles. Don't think he was a marine but think a trooper in jungle scene. I imagine he would look awesome if recreated as one of your henchman and would fit in with the feel of the army. Anyway i apologise for trying to hi-jack your work, its just inspiring to see such a strongly themed army.

Also i apologise for the sudden lack of motivation you are about to experience over the next few days......subscribed

kenshin620: Yeah now you come to mention it I did get it the wrong way around didn't I!
I think it was just one of those times that you grab a load of stuff chuck it together and it works. It was a fun conversion to make at the time and seems like a shame to waste it.

Aw...and it was all going so well...

I know the guy you mean, I think I've got the RT era mini that picture was based on somewhere. I know the guy you mean though.

Totally agree about the colonel, in fact like you say all of those models are pretty much almost characters in their own right. The henchman warband limits you to warrior acolytes, psyker, banisher, death cult assassin, jokaero and crusader off the top of my head so really he's probably going to have to be a warrior acolyte, maybe an old mentor or friend of the Inquisitor?

Got a bit more done now with the back packs swapped over so just have to clean up the paint job and get them based now.

Still plugging away with the Arco-Servitor idea and have begun cleaning up the GS work and rebuilding the damaged areas of the model

Lastly I found one of my old Mordheim Witch Hunters warband that I'm going to clean up and try to include in the freak show retinue.

Cheers guys!

Just to try and help set the scene for the army I've knocked together a little back story for the henchmen. Far from shakespeare but it should help give an impression of the direction I'm taking with these guys.

The violent shaking of the Storm Herald class assault shuttle's blackened hull came to an abrupt halt as the craft broke through into the planet's upper atmosphere and began it's final approach. Previously fixed weapons began to cycle through system checks to prepare their combat readiness, the crew weren't expecting a fight but Arwan, the vessel's co-pilot, always maintained it's better to be safe than sorry.

The power armoured troopers on board began unbuckling their descent harnesses, servos whining in protest as they stretched to ensure the suits were in good working order. Behind the leering skull painted on the front of his battered black helmet Gerrick grimaced in frustration as the auto-reactive shoulder plate seized up. Sergeant Horpa took two steps before slamming his fist into the malfunctioning plate flecking the paint on both the pad and his gauntlet. Gerrick grunted with approval as the shoulder pad came free and he began running through his weapon checks.

It had been eleven years since the Warmaster had finally been defeated at the siege of Terra. The brief moment of elation at their victory had been short lived. The Imperium of man lay in ruins with the fate of the Emperor himself unknown to all but the most senior of officials. Stories of his death had been played down with waves of propaganda and misdirection. The age of Imperial Truth had been replaced with deceit and half truths in the wake of a new crusade lead by the Primarchs to drive the traitors from their trenches and fortifications, to shatter their bastions and seek out and destroy every element of corruption that remained.

Renis casually lit a lo stick as he sat checking the power cells on his plasma gun.

"So what's the plan boss, another combat drop?" He mumbled as he blew smoke into the air through gritted teeth not taking his eyes off his beloved weapon that hummed in his free hand.

"I can only tell you what I know Renis," Horpa said as he adjusted his crimson beret so that it sat firmly on his head "we're to meet up with a specialist..."

"A space marine?" Haspen groaned interupting the sergeant "We wouldn't be in this fething mess if it wasn't for them."

"Watch your tongue Corporal," Horpa snapped drawing the attention of all those within ear shot. These men had fought side by on the line during the defence of the Lions Gate, they had forged bonds of brother hood that far exceeded rank and such an outburst served only to focus their attention. If was enough to get Horpa worried then it had to be big. "we'll also be liaising with Sergeant Morgan and the 53rd Kaspan recon." Horpa let a brief smile slip "So you better brush up on your card skills unless you want to end up loosing a months rations again to him, eh Renis." The tension broke as the squad began to playfully tease the plasma gunner.

"You're lucky he let you walk away with your clothes after that last game on Merant Renis" Gerrick shouted down the cabin as they others, including Renis, began laughing at his misfortune.

The lighting in the cabin changed from a pale green to red indicating that they were on final approach. The laughter stopped as they hurriedly donned their helmets stepping into line towards the rear doors. None of them knew what waited for them at the muster but they would face it together as brothers.

Got a few bits done today but not a lot. Still need the high lighting and shading but I've started to paint the guns red to tie them in a little more with the Inquisitor.
As it stands I'm going to be using three troops choices at best so am thinking of using the remaining Mk IIs that I have to make two small three main Henchman Warbands, one with all flamers and one with all meltas.

02Laney: I've got another seven on the go in addition to these five but am also chucking together a small melta gun team as well to back them up. What I'm thinking is going with all red armour to set them apart from the main squad.

Rawson: Finecast is seriously easy to work with to be honest. The thing to remember though is that it is a lot softer than resin, metal or plastic you can actually carve or cut around parts of the models rather than just slicing bits off. The head on coteaz for example was a matter of cutting around the head like you might cut a circle of card from a box and wiggling it free. No way I could have done that with the old metal mini.

Flinty: Totally agree with you there mate, sometimes the simple ideas are the best.
