I don't normally use eBay (lots of looking for stuff you can get as cheaply from a net shop) but to get enough wraith guard I had to.

Now these guys are currently getting acquainted with some fairy power spray, but I've noticed one local player who has a whole mismatch of marines in different schemes in his army, sometimes in the same unit. After chatting he gets them off eBay, and they represent his crusading combined task force.

But how do you guys do it? Repaint to your army scheme ? Leave it? Strip them naked and force them to fight in the tatters of their former heraldry?

I've gotten a lot of stuff over the years off e-bay. I strip & re-paint the marines, but especially with my ork army or even my eldar... I'll leave things be if they're well painted and close to my army's scheme (or are such a unit as the color scheme is not all that important). Usually I assume I'm going to strip and re-paint them though (for all armies)... but occasionally you get lucky and pick up a very nice piece that you can use as-is.

Strip them. Even the vehicles. Haven't stripped the baneblade, but that one would be a bit more awkward. I'll probably just wash it, prime over the old paint, and repaint. Or something.

I use simple green to strip them.

I will never play with a 40k miniature that another man, or woman, painted.

Always repaint at the very least.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

The few I've gotten off eBay were stripped for this very reason.

Just feels wrong somehow.

My paint scheme is pretty specific. Everything I get off ebay goes strait into the simple green if its not already stripped. I roll my eyes at pro-painted armies selling for big bucks. Who in their right mind would go to ebay to spend MORE than regular price.

I strip everything. The joy of the Fairy Powerspray is that even the bigger stuff can be stripped fairly easily due to not having to submerge anything.

I give them a Dettol bath. Strips the paint right off, doesn't harm the plastic and is 100% safe. Then they get re-based and re-prayed. Ta-da! Brand new models for a fraction of the cost.

Having after nearly 20 years finally accepted i don't like or have time for painting I now either:

buy new models and have them painted or

increasingly buy fully painted models from ebay (almost always to a far higher standard than i can paint cheaper than the bare plastic/metal) -

Wish i had done it years ago - still at least I had a good quantity of unpainted stuff that funded the painted stuff.

I paint, but i haven't bought anythign off ebay pre painted (i usually aim for new on the spue models

but if i did buy prepainted (i would if the price was right but it never is) it would depend on the quality job, I'd say esp vehicles would be fine as that can be dismissed as different big meks, tech marines, engeneering corps or whateve. basicaly made by differnt peopel and possibly maintained by different people.

as for troops though they'd probably be stripped either way unless it was like a full squad of something ork komando squad where it would just usually be the one vs a bunch of ork boys. the boys would be painted how the rest are... while the komandoes might be ok as they are supposed to be different
