A few months short of ten years ago, I was into Mage Knight. Played with my family a lot, and the occasional friend. Sadly, when I went to my FLGS' game room to see if anyone wanted to play, I couldn't find anyone playing it.

A friend told me about a game he and his friends played, and I watched a bit, and recognized some of the minis from my old school - I'd witnessed a Space Marines against Orks game then, but didn't know what the game was or what the units were called. I distinctly remember the Space Marine Land Speeder though.

Anyways, I wanted to play games with other people, so over a few months, I saved up enough to get an infantry box. I chose a squad of Dire Avengers because they looked the coolest of all the models available at my FLGS.

Ten years later, I'm still into the game.

Incidentally, this was the same friend who convinced me to join the Royal Canadian Air Cadets by claiming it was a club where I'd get paid to go to it. I was young and starting to go crazy, so naturally I was hopeful.

I was at the local game store playing Highlaner (the CCG) and they were running a 40k tournament. A friend of mine who has epilepsy had a grand mal seizure. One of the TO's said that if someone was willing to run his army until he recovered, he could stay in the tourney, so I offered to help out. I managed to aggravate every opponent I played by constantly referring to the Necrons I was playing as 'space zombies.' It was highly enjoyable. I was pretty broke though, so never got my own army, although I would play with one of his spare ones whenever I could. About three years ago I had a cab driver come into where I work, bitching about needing money, and being willing to sell some of his own gaming stuff. I happily revealed that I was a gamer, and asked what kind of stuff he had. Which is how I wound up with a Space Marines army for a grand total of seventy bucks.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

When I was 5, we lived in the UK for a year, and I just happened to cross a ''toy store'' there...

When we moved back to Finland my mom found out that, there is a GW here too, so I started warhammer 40k followed by FaBa and LotR. My first army was of course Ultramarines

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

Never heard of it until they closed the fish and bait store I used to go to with my father at Ocean City MD. I went in expecting it to be an arcade. Left with a free 500ish pt marine army, 50ish free white dwafs, and came back the next day with an assembled 500ish pt marine force to play against some orks. This was back in the middle of second iirc. I think Man of War had just come out?

My old cardshop closed down so to the one across to buy some magic cards and saw the new space marine vs dark eldar battle set on sell and everyone playing. The store owner introduced me to the game and cut me a deal on the set + a box termis and a old calgar model for 100$

I had a friend bring in space marines when I was 8 and I thought they were the coolest things I had ever seen. I got a bunch of models but never really played any games. ABout 4 years ago a different friend showed me dawn of war and I pointed out how I used to play the miniatures game and so I got back into it this time as guard so I could teach them and start playing for fun again.

Back when I was in middle school, a decade and more past, I made a friend recently moved to the US from England. Once, with a group of friends, we decided to draft up ideas for super soldiers... needless to say, we were the cool kids in class. The next day, my friend comes in with genetically altered super humans in power armor, wielding bolters, sired by the Emperor of Mankind. It was pretty clear that he hadn't come up with all of that on his own, and he told me that they were Space Marines...

I drifted away from the hobby over the years, but now I'm getting back in the game. What got me into it this time? I almost took up 40K again when I was playing DoW online with friends, but it didn't quite stick. The Horus Heresy series finally got me back into the hobby (this must be sweet, sweet music to GW's ears). I've been collecting the books since the series started, but I only just began reading them... I'm behind the curve, I know. I'm now caught up with the series, but I knew halfway through Horus Rising that it was time to get back into 40K. I've been lurking forums, reading codices and rulebooks, and I'll be purchasing my first new set of models in over a decade tomorrow.

A couple of years ago my friend and I were lamenting over a lack of games to play and searching through our options. We were going through our FLGS when I was like: "Hey, I've heard of this Warhammer 40k before..." He doesn't like Sci-fi but I bothered him enough to play. I started Eldar because I liked the aesthetic and (supposed) playstyle.

I was ienvolved in secret government experiments dealing with gamma radiation, and talking monkeys... I cant divulge about what happened much due to national security but lets just say aside from playing 40K, I ended up turning funny colors, lost the ability to spell "experiments", and can no longer divide by 12...

Acually it was something for me to do after got injured in Iraq, and came home to the states with nothing to do (injured, no car, no family, just lots of staff duty and doctors appointments). One of the guys on "Rear D", SSG Davis, (Cool dude by the way) was into it (7000pt SM, 9000pt Nids) and he taught me how to play and I picked up Necrons because when I told what I had narrowed down my choices to (Tau or Necrons) he practicaly pooped his pants when I told him I was leaning towards Necrons. Those were some great games, I lost just about every game but they were 3000-4000pt battles that took about 10 hours each. Good times!

My primary tabletop game is Battletech, and we had a regular good sized group playing at the game store here for awhile. Then it waned, and several of the battletech players I like, were playing 40k, so I tried it out. It's fun, and now I have two games I can play, so I don't wind up sitting around bored out of my wits with no game to play.

I was watching a video that had a bunch of clips of war games and then I saw a wraith killing a Space Marine and I was like wtf is that?! I searched up Warhammer 40k ended up reading about the Horus Heresy and fell in love with WH 40k. It was like you could see the battles happen as if you were there! And not only that, every story lead to another story!

I used to walk past a Games Workshop store twice a day to get to school (this was a few years ago) and after moving house I spotted another one last year and desided to go in. After basically tabling the staff during my practice game I signed up for the beginners course. So after doing alot of looking around for good armies and different websites I found the Death Korps of Krieg ^.^ so I bought a load of them and have been playing for a year now trying to start up a second army but not sure which to get.

I started in fantasy and was big into the Hordes of Chaos army, mainly preferring Daemons. Then the army book split into Daemons first, then a Warriors book following later. I built up a giant daemon force, picked up the Chaos Daemons codex for 40k (since I had the army, only lacking the book so far) and started playing. A BT/BA army later, and I'm still loving 40k. I mostly play my daemons still, and do very well with them because people aren't quite sure how to deal with them (CC armies weep against them). I started playing 40k about a month after the Chaos Daemons codex came out.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

My FLGS was giving away two of their old Citadel Miniatures catalogs (The blue 40k catalog and green WHFB catalog, for anyone old enough to remember those), and I snatched them up because I was interested in miniatures games (thanks to Battletech and Heroquest). I spent most of the spring staring at all of the cool miniatures, and when my birthday rolled around I ended up splitting the cost of the Second Edition 40k box set with a buddy of mine. The rest is history, and a lot of space taken up in my closet.
