Subject: 40k vs. Star Wars but in a different kind of way.
Let us say that current state of Star Wars galaxy is 18 BBY ( so one year before "Revenge of the Sith" ), CIS and Repuclic are at was with no side getting the upper hand.
Then all of a sudden both Republic and CIS lose contact with their worlds on the galactic edge. And when send to investigate, both fleets engage one another thinking that it was the other-ones fault. And in the height of battle, both fleets were engaged by Tyranid forces. And then, behind the planet an entire Hive fleet appears.
The Hive fleets is at full strength, size of Leviathan fleet, there are 2 of them and it's current course is toward the center of the galaxy with Coruscant on the way. The question is will the Star Wars forces manage to stop the Tyranids?

They could put up a decent fight. The forces during the Clone Wars were pretty large, well equipped, with technology superior to the Imperiums in the majority of aspects.

It's not just that. 99% of weapons in Star Wars are blasters and they are similar to Tau pulse weaponry.

O great, its this one again
Genestealers are the biggest threat here. Because Space Travel is so much more privitized, Genestealers will infiltrate the galaxy much quicker then they can in 40k.
in addition, the more Xeno tolerant society will actually allow the Genestealer cults to operate in broad daylight, untill its far too late.
the Nids are unlike any other alien race Star Wars will have previously encountered.
there isn't even the false hope of compromise that other evil factions will have had. the Nids are here to eat everything.
in the end, even if the initial Hive Fleets are defeated, Genestealer Cults will become a fact of life.
you can't truely eradicate the Nids. if even a single gaunt survives, it can spawn a new hive fleet.

People love to debate, and none ever compared these 2 powers. Only GE and IoM were compared.

Aliens ( 1986 ), they borrowed the Nid idea from them.

Actually, there are two types of blasters. The plasma-based one like the DC-15A used by the GAR, and particle-beam based rifles like the E-11 used by the Imperial stormtroopers.
The former would be the most common armament during the time period specified.
So, Nids vs. Plasma.

My money is on the Star Wars galaxy. It's got size. I mean even compared to a dwarf galaxy the Tyranids are pretty small, and as you well know the Star Wars galaxy is no puny dwarf! I mean the Large Magellanic Cloud likes to talk big but I'm pretty sure the "large" is ironic. Barly 30 billion stars. Psh. Now the Star Wars Galaxy is at least as big as the Milky Way. Lets be conservative and say 300 billion stars. That's alot of stars! I mean, I don't know how many Tyranids there are but damn, 300 billion stars!
It's also got experience. Fair enough we don't know how long the Tyranids have been around but the star wars galaxy, hell, any galaxy, is as old as the Universe! That means it has some serious moves the hive fleet will not see coming.
No, the more I think about it, this wouldn't even be a fight.
They could totally Death Star all the planets that the nids tried to land on to consume biomass, while the Jedi and Clones layed the smack down.
Obi Wan and Anakin managed to pwn an Acklay without their lightsabers, that thing is basically a Tyranid.
I agree with this. Nids are lame anyways

under the -10X page you can see a Retribution class Battleship, a Cobra destroyer, a Star Destroyer, a Trade Federation Battleship, and a Rebel frigate all to scale with each other.
Now, Nid ships don't board another ship, they EAT it!!!
Nid ships are capable of eating ships which are much MUCH larger then Star Wars vessels,
in conclusion I give you this...

Really?
The time zone we're comparing is pre-Death Star for one thing, and an Acklay really, really, really(!) is nothing like a Tyranid. It's just a big spider-like creature that makes annoying noises. Tyranid organisms are far more complicated.
The diversity and adaptability of the Tyranid's is limitless - whatever the SW galaxy threw at them, it would adapt to counter. Any world Tyranid's invade even turns against its owners; the air becoming toxic and full of lethal spores; the plant life mutating and trying to kill its inhabitants.
Even Jedi would be easy targets - a single brood of Hormagaunts or one shot of a Barbed Strangler for instance could kill them instantly.
As for Clone Troopers and Droids.. they have virtually no counter to melee, an area in which most Tyranid's excel in and will reach.

Using ships that hadn't entered widespread use to justify Tyranid space dominance.

Star Destroyers are approximatly the same size as a Republic Cruiser(if not bigger)
and there is a Federation Battleship on that page too(I even said so)
the point still stands. Nid ship size means its impossable to defeat them in Ship to Ship conflict(and he who holds space, holds the planet)

"Star Destroyer" is a term used to describe a certain size of ship, the one referred to on that page is the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer. (Or an Imperial I-class, but they're the same length.)
Is there some place where I can find fleet strengths and physical specifications for Tyranid ships, so I can combat your rediculous claim that nobody can defeat the Tyranids in space combat?
