So I've been roped into setting up a Warhammer army by a friend for some storm of magic action over the next couple of months, this means that unlike my usually "paint it over about a year" I actually have to do a lot of painting over a month or two xD

So this'll be my WIP blog to track how the army progresses, it's Nurgle, it's Fluffy and unfortunately that means i need to work on my painting skills, as its all about decay ^^

Anyhow some images to kick this off, it's a standard bearer and a test to get the colours down and what-not, looks too clean at the moment i think so looking into weathering is the next step for me. Also going to be trying for as much simple NMM as i can, as I've never really been a fan of metallic paints

Edit: just to mention the model below's still a WIP the top of the banner's not been finished xD

Crisp paintjob! I especially like the horns, well done!

I would agree with you though, crisp is not exactly Nurgley. Any plans on how to make it more pustulent?

What about the base? Any plans there?

Cheers,
Rawson

Well, that looks great for a start!!!

Your sharp highlights are really nice, looks as if taken from a comic book or something!

If you want to improve the decaying feel, try & drill rust holes / tears in the shields & armour, and use washes in the recesses to add a somewhat dirty feel to it...

Oh, and there are a few mould lines that are quite visible (especially on the banner hooks, for instance), that quite offsets the good paintjob so far!

Anyway, I'm sure Father Nurgle will be pleased!

Rust is the main area i'm looking at atm, chips in the armour and possibly water marks running from between the armour plates similar to what I tried on the cape.

As for the base i think it'll be the usual mix of flock, sand/cork and either a rock or a green stuff crater with puddle of ooze.

I usually spend more time basing but this first unit was an asap job as it has to be ready for gaming in just over a week *eep*

But hey the first model always takes the longest, once you've got the colour's down it gets easier from there ^^

Hmm i might give the drilling a go, hadn't thought of that for the pitting.

And yeah need to be a little more careful with the mould lines, got a little sloppy after a whole box (forgot how much work it was to clean mould lines off some plastics :/)

Not willing to self-promote, but if you need some ideas, have a look at the Tranch Renegades thread (link in signature), there are a few tricks hinted in there..

Good luck!

(And yeah, removing mould lines is one of the most tedious part of that hobby... I hate it...)

He looks great, I think if you gave him a chainmail drybrush and then a wash of gyphone sepia and thrakka green it would help bring out his miasma

I would do but i'm trying to avoid using metallic paints ^^, the washes might be worth thinking about though

Anyhow here's this morning's painting before work, sorry for the poor lighting but it was tipping it down outside and getting a light out before work was a little too much xD

Unsure about the inking on the shield, it looks a little flat so that might need some work the rust came out pretty well though. Oh and @Yggdrasil i checked out your work safe to say the OSL tutorial is book marked it's one of the best tutorials i've seen for it

Wow the rust came very well indeed, it looks realistic, and adds a lot of depth to your shield. my only crit would be the glove looks the same colour as the staff , i would make the difference more obvious . But the model looks superb .

The rust is wonderful. it actually looks like the rust is peeling up the paint on the sheild.

You are definitely headed in the right direction. The changes from the first photo to most recent are perfect. Looking forward to seeing where all of this goes, subbed and will be back for more!

Been a while since i've update this unfortunately been a bit busy :/

Still back at the painting now *cheer* will get some update pics of the Nurgle banner bearer up and the threads moving to a general chaos theme ^^

Mainly because of this kind of thing

Currently one of three in progress, he's my exhaulted hero BSB, a lord and another exhaulted hero will complete the unit of three

Brilliant Nurgle Warrior he looks exceptional although some dank mucky bits would suit. Those Bloodcrusher Conversions look great. Looking forward to more!

Ok first Juggernaut is going ok, going with a general black/copper/red theme for the jugger and something khorne-ish for the guy on the back (this hero's going to be part of a unit of Khorne marked chaos warriors). The mark in the shoulders still a red - yellow fade that was me playing around, think it'll end up more like around the eye area, dark red to a pinky red. The next Jugger will probably be a plague crusher (an excuse to play with a little more green stuff xD) but still trying to decide how i'm going to do it
