I am starting a new SM chapter/ building a new army. Below are the first three miniatures with the final color scheme, minus chapter markings/insignias.

Please tell me what you all think and what i should do differently.

Thanks

Personally, im a fan of metal colored marines. A few suggestions however.

1) Gotta get rid of those mold lines. Its a very easy way to make everything look wayyyyyyyy better

2) You need a nice contrasting color in there. While going with a majority metal is fine, it needs something like a red or blue, whether dark or bright, to help balance it out.

It looks like youve used a blueish grey color for the trim and eagle. Hard to tell in the photos. but even replacing these areas with a different color would help greatly.

3) The eyes. There are some really good tutorials both here and other places on the internet showing very easy processes for painting eyes. As humans we are instinctively drawn to look at the face of a person first, whether real or a model.

Hopefully this helps

Very simplistic and cool! Like stated above, just a few alterations could make a huge difference.

A bit of colour could go on beltpouches and gun-straps, if you wanted any.
Have you coloured the eyes and gunsights? I can't tell from the pictures.

If you don't, your guns won't fire.

They actually are colored, but its probably hard to tell from the picture.

Here is a close(er) up view of the eyes:

the gunsights are similar to the eyes.

I would suggest adding a tiny pip of white in the top right corner of the eyes. It'll make them look more like they're giving off light, and make them stand out a bit more.

I would suggest giving them a strong bright color. Its too dull kinda looks like my blood angels but metal instead of grey. I use Red to try mix it a little bit so they don't look so boring.

Ok, new scheme, but I didn't have to do much, but I think it looks much better. What do you think?

Hey, that's a big big improvement! Good edge highlights, and the eyes have a nice deep red/orange glow. The red of the armour definately helps to break up the metal and make the whole model pop. I think it looks great!

Much better. The first scheme made them look like they were made of metal. Reminded me of pieces from a chess set.

Hello all!

Its been a while since I've had an update, but here's what happenend:

Completed Ironclad Dread (pics below) (base still incomplete)

Began terminator squad, trying for a pre-heresy look. It'll take a while (Note: the paint on the Terminator is unfinished, and i'll probably strip it and repaint.)

My (near) future goals are to complete the tac squad, and finish converting and painting the termies.

Thanks for all your comments!

@Commisar Von Humps: The pads are actually cut from really thin evergreen strip (google it) and then covered with green stuff to make the rised part. (I'll try to post a WIP pic sometime...)

@Nightfall: They are from the AOBR terminators, cut from the hands and converted to fit normal marines.

Thanks for the comments!

Update: New(ish) Scheme.

After starting the school year, I had enough time to look at my minis for like 5 mins, but never enough time to paint them.
It also started raining in Washington, USA where I live. (it does that all the time here.)

I kindof decided that I wanted to base my army around this climate, so i decided to make the figs look like they had been in constant battle in the rain for a few weeks.

New scheme:

Primed matt black

Drybrushed boltgun metal

Heavy wash badab black

Highlighting codex grey

Trim scab red

Chips/scratches scorched brown

Heavy wash delvan mud

Apply FW fresh mud weathering powder (not done yet)

What do you think? Improvement or no?
