I was undercoating some models in a shed with Chaos Black (it was raining so i couldn't do it outside) and acidently breathed in some of the fumes, since then i feel like i can't catch my breath and i when i take a deep breath i don't seem to get the air i need.
This was yesterday. I am going to go to the docs if it persists but i wondered if this has happened to anyone else. Its probably a long shot i know, but i wanted to check.
Thanks

I did. I had the door open and it happened by accident. I usually do it outside.

Humidity also affects how the spray will coat your models. Never spraypaint when it's humid (i.e. when it's raining).

And never use it indoors. Even if the door is open.

In any case, I don't think it'll affect you much. I've been inhaling those same fumes over the years and I'm still fine.

Thanks i didn't realise that. I don't think i inhaled anymore than i usually do but this time my breathing feels a bit funny, maybe its unrelated.

Um, go to the doctor. Just in case, you know? If your breathing is still affected since yesterday then it's worth checking in with a medical professional. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah, wargaming forums probably aren't the best place to ask for non-wargame related advice. Especially medical advice, but might as well also throw legal and relationship advice in there.

Listen to Yoda. You don't get to be 900 years old without learning a thing or two about spray-paint.

If you are seriously having breathing issues hit up the doctor or the hospital just to be safe.

Since you're UK, i'd suggest finding the nearest A&E and asking a close friend or family member to take you there. Breathing issues are not to be taken lightly, and a small Doctor's surgery might not have the help you need.

If there isn't an A&E department close to you (say about half an hour max.) then try a regular hospital before going to your local GP Practice.

Don't forget to take the can with you so they know what they're dealing with.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

This is probably more of an issue of inhaling the propellant, cans like this I think are required by law to have information on the back as to "what do if xyz" and "in the event of inhalation..." or "harmful if inhaled"

I'd use that as your first guide of "wtf is going on". But, if you're having breathing trouble and it persists, doctors visit fer you

Hmm... Games Workshop have been known to mix some raw warp goo in with that particular spray paint to make it extra 'Chaosy' from time to time.

(Draigo gets it for them, he exchanges it with GW for monopose figures of himself and gets to write his own fluff under the pseudonym Matt Ward. Incidentally this is also the same place where finecast resin comes from.)

To minimize the potential warp goo effects I'd go to the docs to make sure you're not mutating into something with wet tentacles, although if you do there are probably several excellent career choices available in Japan.

I did think it would be a long shot, but i thought what the hell it may well have happened to someone else what with all the undercoating that goes on.
If its like this tomorrow i'm going to get medical advise.
Thanks for the serious replies.

Ex nihilo

I've done that, went to the doctor.

What he told me was that I'd either breathed enough of the pigment to somewhat coat the lining of my lungs, blocking the transfer of oxygen, or that the vapors in the can had chemically done the same thing, causing them to shrink away like a wiener in the cold (He actually used that reference. Whether to be funny or whether he was a terrible doc I have no idea).

He said that it was unlikely that it would be permanent, most likely lasting 2-3 days while my body either: regenerated the tissue, or sloughed the mucous membrane, paint included on the outside. Either way, he said, it would be some bad coughing and $50 to the lady at the front desk.

Basically, don't do it again, and its only going to be really bad if you're somehow more susceptible to this, or have other overlapping problems. If you're under 30, otherwise fine health, I'd say not to worry too much, maybe go for a jog/ take a hot shower.

Again, I'm not a doctor or liable. Best case scenario if you have insurance is to go to the doc, say it hurts and get some funtime meds.

I'd also put it out there that this was while I was in college, and had gone to the Campus doctor, the so appointed "Quack Shack". I'm pretty sure they had the mentality of "even if you die, we still have your money, plus $50 extra."

With the way our medical system works, tell them you have a 10/10 pain and they will give you class 3 narcotics while you're at it. If you live in Florida, they will refer you to a pain clinic where they will give you a life time supply of pain medications so you never have to feel anything ever again and they will even help you file disability papers so you don't need to work and you can start collecting your entitlements now because everyone knows it won't be available when its your turn to partake in them.

You get what you pay for. Emperor forbid you need surgery in the UK. Sure, waiting a couple extra weeks ain't so bad if you're on the dole and not paying for it, but sometimes living is worth a couple extra quid.

Hey, the UK needs some way to cull the old and the weak. We're gonna do it here. Obama's got the whole thing dialed in.

Under the couch

I'm not really seeing a point to this thread, beyond pointing out that breathing paint is bad, and that if you are having health problems talking to a doctor is going to be a vastly better idea than asking random strangers on a wargaming forum about it.

Moving on.
