They can though, the fact they can move 24" a turn and get a 4+ coversave for that. ANd they can have 2 Multi-meltas or stupid amounts of anti-infantry, but on thier own they aren't good. run them in groups of three +

I know what you mean. Mr. Burny with 2 burnas wiped out a full squad of 30 kroot and now he gets picked on all the time.
My least succesful unit is probably my 5 nobz and the warboss. They never manage to make it to the firewarriors without taking at least 3 dead. However, theyre at least moderately succesful, seeing as the 2 nobz left usually can take a squad of firewarriors and the warboss one time took down a hammerhead

Ya our Vets get shot at a ton. Possibly because they look sweet with their robes and what not......
The unit thats the least successful for me is the Whirlwind. I do use it against hordes and stuff against there cover saves but I just diont find it worth it ever.

Yeah I agree. The models look fantastic but in game, not worth the effort.
Also for IG conscripts, just on their own are utterly useless.

Broadsides/Hammerheads. Whenever they actually manage to hit with their railguns, it either never manages to do anything. Lightly armour transports are usually never hit, anything which I might have more difficulty trying to glance/penetrate never manages to damage. My Fire Warriors just don't like shooting, they prefer CC.
It's a sad state of affairs when your Fire Warriors and Broadsides have killed more models or claimed more points in close combat over the past few years than they have with shooting.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

SENTINELS! I mean, they were okay last edition, and armored sentinels are a much needed alternative unit. But c'mon, who takes them when you have vendettas? Or, barring that, a hellhound variant.
I miss the days when the IG HQ choice could take 0-5 Heavy Weapon Squads, 0-3 (?) Special Weapons Squads, and a Sentinel squadron in addition to the company command squad.

DE Mandrakes...I mean yeah the guys can infiltrate, have stealth and a 5++, but when push comes to shove they always get taken out. They are just so weak and can't stand in CC (which is where they belong), and why would anyone take them with Incubi and trueborn as elites?

I'm with Akroma, I've delt with Mandrakes a bit and thinking on how to make them actually useful other then a support assault unit in an army that already has well equip geared assault troops. They just don't make much sense in what they are out to do and there options are pretty limited in what you can take aside a Night fiend and hoping you can actually win an assault for a PT. If they do then they are decent but from go they are fragile and glass like for a dubbed assassin of Commorragh.
They really are an embarrassment on that level you read fluff on them slinking threw shadows and into personal shadows just to materialize behind a target and kill them. That's pretty brutal in fluff compared to what happens in game. If they are capable of things then I don't know were it is on the table other then support / assault from an Elite slot. Much as I stay away from competitive social builds with Trueborn and have slots to play with in that area I still wont put points into them anymore. I use to run 90 points worth of them to 'give it a try' and that didn't end well most the time. If they do get a PT it can be moderately worth it but it depends on the target you pick too. Though I feel the Night Fiend should have some kind of CC options some weird mix of arcane and a power weapon or something.
I blame the fact that they are 5++ and with a PT it makes them a bit more survivable but that's IF they can do something in assault. Thats a very very big IF I wish they had toned them out to be a bit more fun or at least worth something. Sure S4 is oh nice thanks for that 1^ but it didn't help THAT much when your normal target is a marine(Which it shouldn't be). In the end I thought is it really worth it to keep these guys for fluffy just to maybe get a 5%(exaggerated made up calculation) or worse chance to gain Baleblast? no... Would I run them against Guard or Tau maybe.... if it was for fun and I wanted to scare someone, Other wise I rather play around with Reavers a little more controversial but not nearly as bad as Mandrakes...
-Sincerely Viri

Zoanthrope. Great unit, amazing write up... BUT it either fails its psychic test to shoot (my bad rolls, opponent anti psyker abilities etc), or when I do get it off, i end up missing... when i dont miss... i roll crap to pen, if i do pen, its the worst roll possible.
I have yet to pop a tank with one.
