Im looking for an army now which legaly and still good to game with ahs the fewest models.

i already have a Ogre army and i was just wondering if anyone could maybe help me with this? either 40k or fantasy (or both )

I have played against a Blood Angels force consisting of 21 infantry models and a predetor at 1500 points - basically 4 5 marine terninator plus some uber character all maxed out.

I woud Imagine that this is possible for allot of the Meq forces as well.

Demons should also be able to do this.

I don't own the book, but I would have thought that Grey Knights have the highest points per model ratio.

As varied as two regular terminator squads loaded up and two TH/SS terminator squads can be I suppose?

If you are after specific army lists I would suggest a search of the Tactics board herein asd that Gwar thread may be a little out of date.

My space wolves come to 2000 pts. this includes;

1x wolflord
1x wolf prist
4x wolf guard
5x scouts
30x grey hunters
3x landspeeders
1x dread
1x landraider
5x long fangs

I have an 1850 Thousand Sons list with 27 marines, 2 Daemon Princes and 5 vehicles (2 preds, 3 rhinos).

While you could easily make a legal Grey Knights list with a very small number of models...well, it's Imperial. And nobody likes them.

Grey knights can make a very small army.

Draigo lists with paladins as troops have really small numbers, 55 points a model,

20 basic paladins ( 2 squads) + draigo is 1375 points

Ogre Kingdoms and WoC led by Throgg can run very lean lists model-wise for fantasy.

Below is just over 3K points for fantasy (the dragon ogres are a point sink, dropping them alone puts it back at 2.5K)




Imo, for fantasy you will always need some fodder units, which will up your model count. I usually use 2 units of hounds, adding 10 models to the army for only 60 points... but they're good for sacrificing to nasty enemy units/monsters. Without them, the model count gets really low...

There are quite a few 40k Blood Angels players who run pretty much all tanks and as few marines as possible. Basically its
HQ / usually Mephiston
Spam: Min marines w Razorback with Lascon
Spam: Ball Predators
Spam: Regular Predators / Vindicators.

Its very effective as the vehicles are fast so they can still move pretty far and fire all their weapons. Also they have plenty of Lascannons to tank hunt. I think in the current escalation league i'm in 6 guys are running this. I'm sick of playing against it, but honestly, when its nicely painted all the Tanks are pretty sweet... you could easily do the same thing with Guard.

While not competitive in the least(in my opinion) you could go Tank heavy IG with 2 Vet squads as your troop options. Tank squads are not very effective, but eat up plenty of points when you deck them out.

Orks can do 9 models at 1500pts.

HQ
Ghazkhull Thraka
Big Mek

Troops
3 Nob Bikers
1 Deffdread

Heavy Support
3x Battlewagon.

Obviously add wargear as you see fit. Grey Knights may be able to do lower than that with Draigo and two 1 man Paladin units for Troops, but I don't own the codex.

Ow, that ork army is bad.

If you want something halfway decent, I would go terminator army. Either GK with Draigo for Paladins or a Deathwing Army. with AOBR Termies, you could do Deathwing pretty easy. Take some converting, but it would be cheap.

I'm assuming you mean Dark Angels because that's actually illegal otherwise.

Grey Knights can do the smallest 40k army. Draigo with paladins as troops makes for some tiny, tiny armies where each infantry model can cost close to 100 points if they're kitted out right.

GK's can do it with 6 apothecary paladins loaded to the teeth, draigo, and 1 ven dread. Its terribly funny! 1500 on the dot.

Dreadnought: assault cannon, psybolts, heavy flamer, psyflame

is 1500 points and 14 models

Draigo
Librarian (Might of Titan, Quicksilver, Sanctuary, The Shrouding, Warp rift), warding stave
5 paladins: 2 psycannon, warding stave, hammer, 2 halberds, 2 swords
5 paladins: 2 psycannon, warding stave, hammer, 2 halberds, 2 swords

These lists, and variants on the theme (sometimes with a six paladin squad to go in a Crusader with Draigo and the Librarian) from 1500 - 2500 points do pretty well for me (see signature).

If you really wanted the fewest models you could go:

Librarian (Might of Titan, Quicksilver, Sanctuary, The Shrouding, Warp Rift), warding stave
paladin apothecary, warding stave
paladin apothecary, warding stave
Stormraven: assault cannon, psybolts, multi-melta
Stormraven: assault cannon, psybolts, multi-melta
Stormraven: assault cannon, multi-melta
Venerable Dreadnought: assault cannon, psybolts, heavy flamer, psybolts
Venerable Dreadnought: assault cannon, psybolts, heavy flamer, psybolts
Venerable Dreadnought: assault cannon, psybolts, heavy flamer, psybolts

is 2000 points and 10 models.

Deathwing, Loganwing, Blood Angel Death Company with maxed dreads slots.

Perhaps a Daemons army using double princes and alot of Bloodcrushers.

The smallest legal playable army is Draigo and 2 paladins, one in each troop slot. Alternately, two Big Meks and 2 Deff Dreads comes really close.

Stupid question: Is this 40k and fantasy only? The original post is pretty vague.
If your just looking a competitive army with a low model count it should be pretty easy outside of GW's massive battle umbrella.

a nurgle chaos army can be pretty small. I mean i pay something like 73pts for one of my sgnt. in a recent 700 pt tourni i had 13 total models and i won.!!! beating a 12 model blood angels list in the process. Lots of plasma for the win

Demons and Grey Knights practically have this as a specialty.

for approx 3000 points they can have 14 models

GK. 500 points with 3 models. Draigo. paladin(1) X2.......nuff said
