True. And it always seemed to me that the young'uns should be led by some walking deathdealer or other.
I like the way the dex is going. There are no other 'dexes left that let you create your own character to the 9s and to me thats what the wolves are all about.
Im not saying you have to or Im right, just that thats the way I play.

You see, thats what I'm finding appealing and why I still can't choose between Orks and SW for my next army.
My favourite codex of all was CSM 3.5 ed. It had everything for me. I never had as much tourney success as I had with the army I built from that codex and it was due to the amount of configuration you could do to pretty much whatever you wanted.

The name failed me, but the Lesser HQ choice under the Lord, and Wolf/Rune Priests. That's what I meant by "little HQ's". I don't consider 1 wound models to be HQ level. Battle-Leader. There, this conversation made me click my mouse a few extra times. I want my money back. The logic was, for unbreakable Morale/ LD levels it may actually be useful to attach a cheap, low level HQ to a unit of Wolves. Now granted, you do get 4 HQ slots you may always use, something even close to 100 points is probably overkill in the "attach a leader" department. I'm thinking that Canis, and a few units of Thunderwolves are probably enough to keep the hounds in line.

The best way to make sure you get tghe re-rolls on Ld for the F.Wolves is with the following models:
Thunderwolf Lord with Saga of Majesty.
Canis.
TWC.
Thats what i'm thinking of taking to sure up my lines.

The only things that i found could be mounted where:
- Wolf Lord
- Wolf Guard leader (i think not positive)
- Iron Priest (go figure?)
Andn of course the TWC, although i think it may still be possibly to pull off a Nob Biker style squad with the TWC unit.

QFT on all counts.
The WGBL isn't worth it on a TW though. Just take Canis, he equates to roughly the same amount of points.
Wolf Lords are quite killy on TW and Iron Priests are well - really sucky.

I dunno. An Iron Priest with Wolf Tooth Necklace, a TW, and 3 Cyberwolves doesn't sound -really- sucky. I'm sure there are plenty of uses for that unit.

There are better elite choices out there than an Iron priest. The only thing that could make an iron priest viable is a jump pack to increase their mobility in conjunction with the Saga of the Ironwolf to help with repairs, otherwise, take wolfguard, scouts or lonewolves.

If IP had more than 1 wound and ws5 i'd take them on TW with 4 Cyberwolves and a WTN.
But as it stands 165 pts is a bit pricey for a unit with one wound.

hows about slaping the Iron Priest on a bike and sticking him in with swift claws??? you got T5, the bikers fist and the iron priests fist (servo arms are fist attacks right?) + a flamer or meltagun
P.S. this has nothing to do with the fact that i happen to have 3 bikes built, one unbuilt, and iron priest bits floating around...

Oh, I'm not saying he's IDEAL. I just don't think he's totally worthless.
Of course, I'm not planning on bothering with Elites at all. Elites eat up points that I plan to spend on more Thunderwolves.

Games Workshop stores and some independent stores too I'm sure are having product launch parties next weekend on October 3 for all this new Space Wolf merchandise. Some stores will even likely have food brought in for the customers; I know of at least one that is doing so. There are also painting contests and other activities on October 3. Check GW events for more details and call your local store for the full story about what's going on there on Oct. 3.

I am thinking of something like this. It fits more into the Herohammer mold that people have discussed as opposed to a balanced list, but I think it has potential.
Wolf Lord on TW- Warrior Born - Heavily Kitted
w/ 15 wolves
Canis
w/ 15 Wolves
WGBL on TW-Mildly Kitted
w/15 Wolves
WGBL on TW-Mildly Kitted
w/15 wolves
2x10man GH squads in Rhinos with 2x Meltas
1x10man GH squad in Rhino w/ Melta+Plasma Gun.
I am thinking I could do that in around 1500 points. Allowing for 160 pts for the Lord and around 110pts per WGBL with deffinate melta-bombs for all the HQ's that will always hit on 3+. This would make a VERY mobile force and with keeping one of the GH squads in reserve I would be very well suited to handle node missions and have enough hitting power to takeout tanks or Horde. The wolf packs are basically delivery systems for the characters to get them into CC as quickly as possible, and with everything moving as fast as it does I should only have to take one round of decent shooting before I am on top of them with my army. Turn one Rhinos sheild the wolfpacks and pop smoke giving them some safety on that round even.
I think this book has alot of potential. It will just require breaking away even further from standard SM tactics and I am all for that.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee. |

Fenrisian Wolves are Fast Attack choices so you are only allowed three units of them. Your characters may each take up to 2 wolves but that's it. Too bad though, that would be an incredibly fast army.

Canis lets you take wolves as troops, so it'd work.
I'm not familiar with the point value details of the SW army, but it looks like the above list has 360 points of wolves, 600 points of Grey Hunters, and 185 for Canis set in stone. That gives you ~400 points for your 2 WGBL's and Lord. That should be plenty.

As far as the all Terminator army is concerned. It can be done and it can be done well at 1500pts.
However, the wording for Logan Grimnar's "The Great Wolf" rule states that Wolf Guard COUNT AS Troops rather than MAY BE TAKEN AS Troops. I read this as meaning that you may only take them as Troops and not Elites. Granted this isn't really an issue I just thought I'd point out the wording of this rule.

Good call Aduro. I had that backwards.
The wording for Canis' rule is written the same way, "Count As" troops.

If Canis is worded the same way, then I'd have to change my first position since wolves counti g as troops does nothing as the are always unable to count as scoring. It is probably supposed to be "taken" as troops. The issue would then be if they can be taken as elite/fast still or not.
