What a coincidence that Blue Table Painting, about a week ago, announced that they're copying MicroArtStudios's design without credit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgES2fAA3Uw&feature=channel_video_title

For those that are impatient, jump to 0:40.
Learned this from the official Infinity forums and thought it would be nice to spread the word.

Wow.

Not sure what else to say about that, other than... that just doesn't seem right.

Yeah, they are pretty similar--although to be fair to BTP I'm not sure how many different ways you could design it. Still....

Well the MicroArt ones are compatible with their other stuff like the infinity house right (I think)? So it has that going for them.

Don't know about the other ones though.

You really have to look twice to see differences. Guess that's why the video starts with the statement, that "the inventor" is not "wanted" in any state, maybe that will change

Wow, more reason to dislike BTP other than their gakky videos and half-assed painting.

Wow,

I love how everyone hates on BTP... You can only do so much with "generic industrial Sci-Fi catwalks"... Lets be honest, they both kinda look like Pegasus Hobbies' Platformer Construction Set, which has been around longer than the other two...

good on ya for healthy competition

God I hope so

I need more internet drama in my life.

Also, in the end, the best product will win. Micro Art has got their rep behind their product, and it does look good, but will the BTP stuff be able to stand up in quality? It looks good, but I can't wait to put metal 40mm base on these bridges.

also, this seems highly appropriate in this situation:

Must admit I thought that was the Micro Arts catwalk

Those templates. Unless they are fantastically inexpensive, why?

The plastic template is 11 dollars

the wooden templates are 6.90 for chimera and rhino shaped wrecks, and most other templates are 8.70 including some cool ones like defiler/soulgrinder, and stormravens.

They will also customize your template by adding vehicle bits to it, for more money of course.

I think Walkway Wars sounds better...

Still, as noted, stair and walkways have been around for a while, so BTP is probably safe.

I guess?

Guess about a fiver for the Chimera template then
Piece of heavy card or similar, bob's yer auntie.

The flattened spider thing would be trickier to cut out, but it would look better made up in layers and a bit of thought it would be a cinch.

So not for me

The walkways on the other hand, would take a lot more effort but sadly can't afford the amount I want

If BTP had any class they would have designed a distinctive Art Nouveau set and called it Parisian Walkways

Wood Wars: The Motion Picture. Mature Audiences Only!

I'd go with "The Ingress Incursion", personally...

But yeah. They both do look neat. Too bad I can't get Infinity to take off locally.

To be fair, the BTP one is an almost exact copy obviously done after buying and studying the Micro Art product. And you can see from the guilty face of the BTP "inventor" and the crime jokes at the beginning, that they are fully aware of that.

Omadon's Realm

With regards BTP, that stuff is remarkably close to the Micro Art design. I'm often willing to believe in convergent evolution in work but in this case, nope, it's far too close.

For the record, I would suspect Shawn, the owner, was unaware as he's not often that clued in to the wider hobby (see: not knowing who made that manticore in the clip), but I suspect the guy showing off the design had been perusing the interwebs...

I will not stand for these ludicrous allegations that I am taking a lower platform on the BTP walkways. I think that we need to climb to the occasion and just enjoy the terrain.

Edit: There are 0 ludicrous allegations

While I do agree that BTP could've stepped up to the occasion to provide a product with more originality, I think those who are raising allegations of copying should tread carefully.
There can obviously be varying gradations of a similar product without stomping the toes of other designers and, while similarities abound, a similarity is nothing more than that.
Had the product been more of a theft, I'm certain MAS would instigate an ascent into legal ramifications without hesitating to go down that road.

Hopefully, either or both of the parties in the discussion will keep producing similar products of high quality and won't wait to create a product that is a companionway down the road.

Actually I thought the BTP one was a a little nicer. But if it turns out they were copied, MAS shouldn't let them walk all over them.
