The sand bases are nice, but the dark temple ones look like it would be like painting another figure to use one. No thanks!

That's why I will base all my Dark Eldar on those Dark Temple bases.

Some update on the future of Infinity buildings.

First a WIP of a new attachment:

For several reasons (including future attachments, the original building kit will sonn be redesigned to a form not compatible with the original one:
The important thing is - after much input about doing various things with the original Apartment 01 we'll be updating it's design. With the current one some options are to difficult to introduce so we'll be making changes in order for it to fit the new building and other things. It also means that it will not be compatible with the old one. Just a quick heads up.
(...)
The size of the building will stay the same. The most important change is the different roof/floor so the walls of the old buildings will not fit literary with the new roof. It will be always possible to put one building onto another This change make it harder to mix old parts with new one, but the look and fill of the design stay the same. Also the windows are a little bit higher, so you will get more cover out of it. We've also made it possible to have balcony on the right and the left side of the building. All this changes give as possibility to make new type of build.
(...)
New thing. There's going to be also some changes that will make taking off the floors easier.
The one big thing that will not be interchangeble are the floor/roof piece. All else should fit and finished buildings(both old and new) should fit together very well. Also with the new "L" design.
Will the interior walls work with the old buildings?

Absolutely!

Here the Sudio's own Infinity board:

Sad news. This prototype will not go into production, as resin is too expensive to produce. All future houses will probably be wooden (HDF). New houses and terrain will come in 2012.

Interesting, the mental value of what i priced these just doubled.

Perhaps i used to look at them like some sort of paper terrain * the old cardboard box look wasnt helping.
But now they look decent.

Blue Table Painting Didn't design the catwalks it was a different company that sells the Catwalks. BTP Just paints them and sells them after they purchase them from that other company.

Vertrucio wrote:You overestimate what MAS could legally do. BTP is in a different country with different copyright laws. Also, it's a bit complex in dealing with IP issues for stuff like this. Lastly, this is a small industry, it's likely MAS isn't a big company that can throw around lawyers, or lawyers overseas.

What's more, I see no significant improvements or difference between the blatant copy and the original.

In stuff like say, Android phones copying iPhones, the android phones always have significant differences in operation and usability. In this case, there's no reason to choose one or the other besides price.

I'd have more respect for BTP if they made improvements to the design, or did things the original didn't do at all.

But so far, all I'm seeing is that BTP blatantly copied, and probably infringed on some level of IP, all because they knew they could get away with it.

Micro Art Studios wrote:As you may (or may not know) Micro Art Studio is a mutual property of Grzegorz Tomaszewski and Sebastian Makowski. Since in the last time they didn't get well with each other a decision to split the company has been made. Due to this fact by the end of June Micro Art Studio will be split into two separate companies.

The one ran by Sebastian Makowski will retain Micro Art Studio name, website, facebook account and license rights to Discworld, Infinity and Wolsung brands.

The releases of the other company http://basicks.eu/shop/ will be covered in a separate thread:

First new releases by Micro Art are two resculpts of the Hive base (40mm and 60mm) and a useful 40mm base with mechanical scarabs (2 for 6.45$):

They also rereleased some of their "missing" base lines with a new look earlier this month, specifically the Trash, Tech, and Desert lines, as well as brand new 40mm Dark Temple bases. Nothing really special about the new Desert bases, just that they're now slightly different than the Basicks ones. The Tech bases are a bit more distinct (insofar as any company's tech bases are distinct from any other one's), but the Trash bases have been significantly redone (and flattened, to the everlasting joy of my orks! ).

They are resculpting old base ranges whose original went to Basicks. These are

Wasteland (several round sizes):

Shrine (several round lipped and square bases):

Graveyard (3 square sizes):

Possible that I missed a resculpt, but they are all close to the original.

Looks like Basicks got a really bad deal from the split then! Not only do they loose half the merchandise, Micro arts just go and resculpt the old stuff anyway! Nonetheless, great stuff, some of the best bases out there.

They just need to make some new things of their own. Like their own versions of the bases that Micro Art kept. Regardless, we get more options in basing, which is always a plus.

I've been seriously debating Micro Art's "Hills" that they produce. As far as I know they are hard foam like their other buildings, which while much more expensive, travels much better then homemade hills made of DOW board (the blue foam board-style insulation), and I usually travel to my friends house to game.
