I've been looking at the "Finecast - an actual flaw count" thread for quite a while now and I've come up with this question:
Do you like finecast more then metal and would you consider it a good alternative to metal (provided they fix their miscasts) or do you want the good ol' metal back?

I like the weight of metal figures. Although resin is easier to work with, I prefer the feel of working with metal. So I voted metal. Although idealy, I prefer plastic to work with. I would love all plastic, even though every miniature costs me 1p more, as I weight the bases.

Personally, I hated working with metal models; they were a pain in the arse to convert and I don't miss having to pin stuff, nor do I miss gluing my fingers together with superglue.

Finecast as a concept would be great if GW had actually passed the supposed cost saving onto the customer. In fact, I would even go as far as to say I would be happier to accept slightly flawed models if the price were cheaper.

However, wishing for metal to come back or for Finecast to be cheaper is just that; a wish, and never likely to happen.

I think Finecast would probably be okay if it weren't for the miscasts and problems. It's not really my thing though, I like metal figures.

I voted for metal but I need to clarify:

I haven't had any contact with the resin models, BUT, I have read enough to know there is a large chance that I'll have to do some extensive work to a model that would already take me a fair amount of time and effort to get it looking pretty.

This isn't to say that I think all finecast is a mess. I just think that enough people are voicing their experiences that a good chunk of those that deserve attention are negative experiences.

Bring back metal for a year or two, work out the kinks and problems that should have been sorted before release. Pin down the Q&A properly and knock the price down by anything up to 25% for a year and get the customer base built back up again.

Out of all the angry talk, letters and ranting I’ve seen, Finecast seems to have been the icing on the cake for a fair few people.

Metal all the way. I hate resin and everything to do with resin. The extra detail is nice, but I still hate resin. Too fragile imo. Metal gets my vote

I voted metal as I agree with the first bit about liking the 'weight' of metal figures. I think it comes from having been wargaming when most figures were metal. It also makes it feel like I've got my moneys worth (esp obliterators and old metal dreadnoughts!) I've not got any of the finecast stuff, but I've got quite a bit of forge world stuff and I do like working with resin as it has more detail and is easier to work with which is particularly good if you're converting. It's also handy to be able to submerse bits in hot water to soften them to enable you to adjust the fit of parts (esp shoulder pads etc).

Metal is a pain to work with and is getting so expensive to use that even cheap companies like Mantic are resorting to high prices for their metal miniatures. There is nothing wrong with plasti-resin, just how GW are handling it.

I don't see the choice there for bringing out finecost in plastics, instead of the subpar resin, and at a realistic price range.

The over the hyperactive top propaganda machine, the increase in price while claiming it was a cost cut, the overall bad attitude that GW has taken.

All if these contributed to my ire on this subject.

Metal might be over extended in this business, but when the alternative is worse then the issue?

Metal isn't the issue. It was the bungle that it was wrapped around, and subsiquently continues without any serious rectification.

"Business as usual" doesn't count when the business is going down the toilet.

I like resin and companies that do it well with proper quality control. A local store owner is thinking about not stocking them because he's had over half of them returned from defects.

My Iron Warriors are horrible metal/plastic hybrids, with plastic legs, arms, backpacks and weapons, combined with metal torsos, heads, and shoulder pads. If they were Finecast I wouldn't have to drill a dozen holes in every single Chaos Marine just to make sure he stays together. I welcome Finecast with open arms, if they can fully replace their metal bits.

My current IG army is all 2nd edition and Necromunda metals and I love them because I can get right to work and don't have to worry about dropping them.

But for action poses, characters and converting I prefer plastic.

Don't have anything nice to say about Resin, it just seems too fragile and hard to work with.

I'd be happy with finecast if they lowered the price and I could sort out the issue with bent parts (I've tried the hot water/hair dryer technique but it seems to bend back again a hour later).

To be honest, I wonder if finecast is a stop gap until they can make all plastic financially viable.

A new day, a new time zone.

I've been curious, for all the complaining about finecast, I've run into my fair share of godawful metal casts too. I wonder what the flaw count on them would've been if they'd been subjected to the same level of scrutiny as all the finecast models have been.

I really do like Finecast, mostly for the conversion possibilities, but the constant errs in the casts do make me wish for a regular metal mini sometimes...

Metal mini's please.... The finecast I've seen is pretty poor. I've been gaming with metal mini's for 20 years and I miss them. Yeah it may be a nostalgia trip or it may be because I feel like railing against GW, but I want metal mini's back.....

Resin is easier to work with, but more prone to miscasting and damage through use. I'd rather side with option c: plastic.

I'd perfer finecast without the air bubble and badly produced flaws. IMO everything should be plastic. It'd be cheaper for GW so they raise the prices

Personally, I haven't had ANY problems with fragility or miscast with Finecast. I own 12 Finecast miniatures, and 1 Forge World model, and the forge world model had more bubbles and holes in it than the Finecast models did. My Finecast models have withstood harder hits than my metal or even plastic miniatures have, so I like how tough they are.

My only problem with finecast, is on occasion, things just snap, and are usually around small little areas, and are a pain to get back together.

I'll, personally, live with that ONE problem, if it means I don't have to live with the annoying hard to use, obscenely heavy metal miniatures, so my vote is for finecast all the way, and I'll deal with the price hike, even though I hate it.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

I never liked metal, so Finecast doesn't really grind my gears too badly.

I'd often convert models out of plastic instead of buying the metal versions; if I find that Finecast is unacceptable I'll continue this tradition.
