Otiose in a Niche

So back in 2009 I had this thread:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/241560.page
OK, I have my crazy Inquisition IG to finish, then my genesteal Cult (count as Nids) so my calendar is full for the rest of 2009 at least.
But that doesn't stop the thoughts from coming...
Arbites
This is an army I've wanted to do forever, my IG SWAT teams are a substitute but not the real thing. And with the new IG book it's finally do-able.
4 squads vets in carapace.
1 penal squad
1 platoon using Mordians as beat cops.
Punisher and Hellhounds for Riot Suppression 40k style.
The rest to taste...
Space Pirates
9 valkyries or vendettas
Vet squads
Yarrick as the peg leg cyber claw pirate king
YARR!
Sparticus X
Adeptus Mech slave rebellion. Counts as Orks
Pitslaves and servitors as boyz
How about the rest of you?
And 2 years later I can honestly say I'm almost done with my IG, I just need to paint 50+ Cawdor to count as one of my platoons.
Then there's the 10 sets of Space Corridors...
2 Bad Guy No 1 tanks Mrs Kyoto imported from Japan for me
The Armorcast titan
My Grey Knight/Inquisition force
My civilian 40k vehicles project.
My genestealer cult (now a full codex behind)
Sure I can knock them out before leaving for Trinidad in September.
But thankfully no real crazy ideas possessing me at the moment. Well maybe a Collossus, not the artillery piece the Epic superheavy, sort of like my Leviathan but bigger.
Who else has a crazy army stirring in the back of their mind?

I have 3:
(To be implemented): Tau FW Gunline
(Eventually): Outflank conscript/autocannon IG horde (Tank free, save for 3 deathstrikes!)
(Maybe): BA all-Dreadnought/Death Company drop-pod list.

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

A number of years ago, I had the idea for an Imperial Guard army all with... whichever doctrine it was that allowed or forced certain units to take carapace armor. I also had the idea to use Kasrkin minis as the models in carapace armor.
All those years later, I still only have about 10 Kasrkin minis. I tend to get ideas, follow them for a while, then abandon them in favour of something else.

A full 19-man squad of Ork Boyz. Warhammer Fantasy Ork Boyz.
45 Lootas, several of which will be using (hopefully) some Devastator heavy weapons as their guns.

Good thing you skipped that one. I guess you can still field it, but not quite the same.

Sooo many ideas. I keep a word document labeled "40k Ideas" on my computer desktop so I can jot them down as they come to me. Here are a few:
IG army based on contemporary USMC: MARPAT camo paint job, converted lasguns, helmet goggles (see FW Cadian vet), lots of pouches - primarily light infantry with support.
Imperial Fists: The entire 5th Company. Truescale.
"Marine" Marines: Very streamlined space marine chapter. All business including camo-esque paint jobs, lots of wargear bits, and zero flashy heraldry.
Homebrew marine chapter: Very "humanitarian". These guys would be benevolent, "genuinely concerned with protecting humanity rather than being zealous psycho monks" defenders of the weak. Would probably go with an angelic theme with drop troops using the BA codex.
Spartan SM chapter: Infantry CC heavy, Sang guard bodies (with the nipples shaved off), spears and shields of some sort.

Ork Soccer Holigans.

Tyranids dressed up as Imperial Guardsman. I've wanted to do this now for a bit. You have the termaguants acting as the normal IG infantry. You give them helmets, vests, pants, and a lasgun instead of their normal gun. I'd have Carnifexes wielding Leman Russ Demolisher Cannons in their hands. I'd give every tyranid an IG helmet along with the normal gear any IG would get. Of course the swarmlord would be dressed like a commisar.

lol, I like the IG pirates idea, I had a similar one as well, was gonna replace the catachan heads with pirate-esque ones and load 'em up into Vendettas and Valkyries.
I wanted to do an army that arrived only by drop pods, probably BA.
Thousand Sons themed army, eventually leading up to having all the Chaos gods represented by an army with signature units.

Ironman themed Orks or Gretchin army. Been meaning to do it for a while and found my badly painted AoBR Orks I put aside for it.
Damn ideas though... I want to make a transforming gargant for them which is formed by several smaller vehicles transforming and connecting to each other. Probably the reason why it has kind of been in and out the planning stage for a while now...

The new DE plastics and codex has me thinking I might just get my highly mobile shooty army that Tau promised to be but hasn't really delivered in 5th ed.
4-5 venoms
2 units of jet bikers
2 bombers or fighters.
Small point army, but very little actually touching the ground.

I actually did the equivalent of the all-dreadnaught BA army back in 2003. Rolled 3 regular dreads and 3 Furioso dreads and the list got spanked regularly, but my god was it fun to field 6 dreadnaughts.

Only 6? Mine has 9. 3 Furioso, 3 vanilla, and 3 Death Company, and a single squad of 15 death company led by a Chapter Captain is the entire list for 2000 points. It'll get mushed agaisnt heavy AV lsits, and I would have to table to win objective missions, but dropping 5 dreadnoughts into the enemy lines to flamer/frag cannon/melta them or pop smoke and then stomp in the next turn would be worth every defeat...

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Back in 2003 there were no Death Company dreads. You couldn't take dreads as troops. It was 3 vanilla dreads which took up Heavy slots and and 3 Furiosos which took up 3 Elite slots. That was all you could take.
