We got another video battle report in last night, testing it all out. The lighting is a bit bad, but we will fix that for the next ones.

Again, any C&C is welcome. We want to make these a regular thing and have the quality consistently improve so please let us know what you think.

We had Cybercore and his Mechdar vs Italiaplaya and his Fatecrusher Daemons

Yep, that's what Eldar do. But in all fairness, I've done the same with a Battlewagon/Trukk Ork list, though with Orks it's more a matter of luck than a function of the list. I've also been trapped in my table quarter and ground down to nothing by Daemons before, so I never feel bad seeing them lose.

How'd the fiends do? Did they kill any skimmers?

Just some advice for Will:

@Will:

If you want to stand a chance against the new GK's, go for mobility. IMO, fatecrusher is out. Fiendweaver is in. I like your unit of seekers, but consider swapping out 1 unit of crushers for another unit of 6 fiends in the future. Myself, I was slowly working my daemon army towards 12 fiends, but then I got sidetracked by this new toy called the Ward Knights.

BTW, great video-rep for your 1st couple of reports. Pretty good commentary also.

fiends killed a skimmer or two. I like fiends, just against must other armies they dont really do to much. Not having a armor save hurts them. I usually use 14 seekers in my tourney build, but have been trying out the nurgling units the past 2 days. ( as you saw when we played.) Think I need to leave in that speed, or drop them for 2 units of horrors

I think the commentary is great. Camera work will get better - what are you using for a camera? One thing that might be nice is a camera further from the field of play or a wider angle and so you need to move and focus the camera less and can see more of the table.

Mech-Eldar usually performs well against armies that lacks ranged anti-tank shooting. Well played.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Well I am glad you like the commentary because that is just the usual BS we talk while playing.

Yeah, we will work on the lighting and camera. That was a little all over the place at times.

I got a pretty nice handheld camcorder, I may put have to play with it a bit. The resolution seems low, but it is a true high def, so maybe it was just the lighting.

well the resolution on youtube that it's uploaded at seems to be low. That may be the problem. Also there are focus problems from moving the camera too much in the low lighting. That would probably be fixed by better lighting.

OK cool, thanks. That was filmed at night in our buddy's garage with only one small over head light, so I bet that is 90% of the problem. Next time we will film in the daytime or in a better lit room.

Im sure if we add another light, we'll be fine. But hes right its only at 360p, Im sure theres a way to make to up it to at least 720p

Could you try a fixed cam for the future, its a little jerky to watch at times, maybe a stand and then move it between turns to get the action?

Cool terrain btw.

Thanks! That is the terrain we use for our tournament, the Bay Area Open. We have different themes, but all of it to that quality.

I have a little stand, I will try that in the future. If not, i will just not wave the camera around like a maniac so much.

haha, I know you're just gettin into it Reece!

But yea, a stand would be good

Guess It is possible to beat a GK list with daemons Jim. Tabled a duel stormraven list filled with deathcult assassins and paladin terminators accompanied by a Libby. Just made a screen with my seekers they took the charge and died allowing my crushers to then charge the unit left standing there.

But ya reece you got my list right for the most part but missed out some minor details. Both heralds also have I am legion. The plague squads consist of 6, 1 unit with a banner, 2 with instruments.

Nice report Reece, and I hope to see more in the future. Lighting can be a pain with video work, so I feel your pain there.

Thanks, glad you liked them! We will definitely be doing more of them.

Yeah, Green played well, we teased him for making some minor errors, but he is a really solid player.

Yeah one thing that is nice about the video (and the NOVA streams) is that when you video something...you can go back and look at what you do. If you get this setup well enough you may end up wanting to video a lot of games, I mean why not. Watching starcraft replays really help people learn how to play, find mistakes, etc. Think of the long history of recorded chess games, or the way video is used in sports to fix problems. It's one thing to have people say "this was a mistake, this was good" and it's another thing to go back and actually look at it. Could be a cool bonus of doing this.

Yeah exactly. We were even thinking of filming the games and then having a dialogue over them where we talk about what we were doing and thinking to see good and bad moves.

My first game against daemons (this was before the GK codex even came out "officially"), I got tabled by a Fatecrusher build. Battle report here.

Then when I played them again, I lost again (batrep rematch here) so it is possible to beat the knights with them. As a matter of fact, I think daemons have a good chance against the knights. They only have trouble against warp quake-spam and interceptor-spam, and it does help if they get their preferred wave in and reserves that don't trickle in.

Yeah I agree. Daemons can beat k.ights, it's just stupid, stupid warp quake that messes things up. That power is idiotic.

Seems to be the new format for reports these days. Here is my feedback.

If you post the lists on the thread, you don't have to interview the player as to what is in their army. This might save you some time in future videos so that you can cram more game content in the limited time frame.

Also,
Spoiler:
it needs more hot chicks!

Green's army wasn't fully painted and his tanks were the only thing that I could really see on the table. At least give me something pretty to look at!

I have Faith.

Lol, next time the guys are over I'll hit you up. It was kind of late on a Wednesday. We're hoping to run these things monthly, maybe even weekly if we can work it out that way. It'd be great for you to join on in, on some battle reps.

Greens army is basically all skimmers anyways haha.

Yeah, this was a test run. You are right though, we can save time by not going over lists in the video. Good idea.

We will also have painted armies in the future, but this was just what we had handy.

Hot chicks? We'll see what we can do about that!

I always give great advise. Like, "You should use the PA system in the closet instead of that megaphone." And, "You should roll the mats all at once instead of one at a time."

Hey All,
Well first off, yes, I AM super new to DakkaDakka and unforetunately I did not write down my user name for Reece, so he just spelled it exactly how it sounds like it should be lol. Just thought I would point that out for anyone failing to find anyone named Cybercore.

I actually play SC2 also, so I totally understand what you mean by watching the replays. Its such a valuable tool to look back on because there are always details that slip from memory. To be able to review everything and be able to concentrate on "how could I have done this better?". I constantly strive to learn something new from every encounter and beleive that one learns more from a Loss than a Win (not that I mind winning lol) as it provides a list of things to be filed under "Never Doing That Again" hehe.

Anyways, thanks for the praise everyone. I'll try not to let it get to my head and just keep playing a clean game

I'm working on it! lol...besides, the skimmers were pretty much the only thing I HAD on the table, the Fire Dragons popped out for one turn before getting slaughtered in the subsequent Assault phase :-( Just figured they needed to contribute to the fight SOMEhow

lambadomy wrote: well the resolution on youtube that it's uploaded at seems to be low. That may be the problem. Also there are focus problems from moving the camera too much in the low lighting. That would probably be fixed by better lighting.

Reece has a legit camera to do the work, must have been some setting during the upload process + poor lighting. Full screen needs AT LEAST 480 to look decent

Reecius wrote: The resolution seems low, but it is a true high def, so maybe it was just the lighting.

I can look into Lighting and such to help improve things in the future, unless someone else already is...then I could use the extra free time to finish painting everything to have something pretty to look at!!

PS - Before anyone flames me for being over points according to the list posted above - I DON'T have that many star engines/spirit stones on spread around, Reece is just doing his best to get it all down from the info on the vid. I think its good.

Reecius wrote: Well I am glad you like the commentary because that is just the usual BS we talk while playing.
