I was wondering, with all the rules, wargear, and abilities, is marbo really that good?

for 65 points. Yeah i have to say he is. some games he wont do too much, but he will force you to react to him, thus changing your plans. Other games he will kill much more than his points...

That demolition charge is nasty, it could destroy a land raider on a 4 or better.

I think of Marbo as a 65 pts precision orbital bombardment.
My favorite combo is to have DS ST with meltas open up a transport and let marbo nuke the guys theat comes out.

Simply; yes. I've had him drop squads of marines, and even an ENTIRE terminator unit that DSed in with his charge.
My favorite thing to do is cry out "SNAAAAKKKKKEEEEE!" when he pops up out of his cardboard box (thats how I imagine he gets around all stealthily)

He can just DS anywhere he likes, like behind the rhino carrying my libby, or my storm raven.

He's the ultimate glass hammer. I've had times where he does great damage (wiping out a squad of purifiers with a demo charge is pretty hilarious to be honest...), but most of the time he shows up, throws his charge, gets shot and goes to ground for a 2+ coversave, then gets assaulted and killed.
He's good for disruption though. If you've got a squad or two of Long Fangs in the back of the table giving you trouble, then you pop him up where nothing else in your opponent's army has LoS, throw the demo charge at the Fangs, and if they survive (which they should unless your opponent has awful luck), then he's stuck either shooting you next turn or getting assaulted.

Think you might be misreading something here. Demolition charge is S8, and not even ordnance. It can only glance a land raider on a 6.
The thing about Marbo is, he is meant to die. He pops up in cover, throws his charge at something, and then generally the opponent invests a lot of shooting to bring him down. He is only t3 with a 5+ save, but he does have stealth so he can survive a lot of small arms fire due to cover. If he does survive, he can run around doing all sorts of nasty stuff, so make sure you kill him.

Yepper; pretty much. The issue with Dante is he doesn't have EW, but we won't get into that....
Basically Marbos a one shot wonder; but when he works its brilliant. He will occassionally flub it hard (like demo packing himself, or getting too risky and blowing his own stuff up), but in general, Marbos a gem. He gives up a kill point to normally get his owner a much more deadly and expensive kill point. He doesn't really threaten things like Raiders being only str 8, and hes exceptionally deadly vs infantry of any sort.

He is extremely brutal to backfield threats in cover. For example, long fangs/lootaz/devs in a building/behind a wall/etc. He pops in, drops a S8 boom on them with no armor save that they likely get no cover from (since he is usu. behind them), and the squad takes massive casualties. He can also generally cause a vehicle problems as most are AV 10 in the back.

As has been stated, he's both quite good and amazingly cheap.
With melta bombs and his poisoned blade, he's also a threat after he chucks his demo charge, meaning your opponent has to deal with him.

Ive read a few battle reps where he has smoked most or all of a terminator squad and other things of insanity. I think they completely forgot how to balance things, he is a perfect example. 65pts should not EVER kill a whole unit of terminators

it's scary to think about it, i mean wiping out terminators? and being able to just deep strike wherever, it's insane. For every long fang squad or broadside team I blew up with him, I saw him throw the bomb on top of himself just as often.
Having a 6" range scattering weapon really adds to the random element of using him, but that can be part of the fun I suppose.

Advantage how? a 6" range large blast template that scatters isn't an advantage for the player using it so far as I can tell. It's what justifies marbo being so cheap, because he can easily kill himself without doing anything to the opponent (except granting a kill point).
As to playing against marbo, he really is just a more accurate orbital bombardment with a kill point attached. If you let the player using him dictate your positioning or movement during the game because you're scared of marbo, then he has already more than made up his points.
Don't bunch tanks or infantry too close together and be aware that any units you leave hiding in terrain are basically the perfect targets for him. Keeping that in mind is probably enough for dealing with him, because once he's dropped his demo charge, the nearest living unit you have needs to head over and kill him. Its just the reality of facing off against IG that use him.

They WILL be blowing holes into vehicles Automatically Appended Next Post: But that doesnt excuse the fact that a 65pt model can blow the hell out of a terminator squad. I mean CMON! Thatd be like having 10 Ork boyz smoke terminators
