At Gencon, Sodapop miniatures was selling a limited edition hero to use in their upcomming board game "Super Dungeon Explore."

Well, I got a request from wittdooley to post up my version of her on Bols, and I decided that while I'm at it I should post here here too.

On a side note- I posted her up on CMON to see what would happen, and it looks like this style isn't terribly well received over there.

The game itself should be shipping out next week or so.

I picked up the set of heroes for the game at PAX Prime 2010. I really like the style of the models.

Nice job on her!

I gave her an 8 on CMON

I know my SDE girl has a horrible rating over there too So don't be too worried about it.

I like it, very cute.

One question though, it's an anime/chibi figure... why does it have a nose?

Hmmm. I've been checking out SDExplore over the past couple of weeks. between the minis and the game itself I'm getting more and more interested. Seems like it'd make for a very interesting Saturday night every now and again!

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

Because it's a Gnome?

That's a great job, I really like the tones in the metals. Also, how did you get the shading on Cola's ears so rich?
I am too chicken to try painting mine so far. Limited edition models are intimidating.

I find it gets a lot less intimidating if you have your favourite paint-stripping agent nearby.

That said, this model needs none of it. SDE looks like a pretty interesting game, and I love the art style.

The nose was on the sculpt, and I think you should ask Bobby Jackson or some concept designer at Sodapop if its a problem. All told, it was subtle enough that I think it fits the style perfectly (a lot of chibi artwork has a small line suggesting a nose, and that translates into 3d by making a very subtle bump of a nose).

I've been experimenting with the color wheel lately. For this mini, I decided to shade and highlight in opposing/compimentary colors- essentially bookending the other colors on the mini. For pretty much everything on this mini, the darkest shading was done in purple, and the lightest highlights were done in an extremely light yellow. That actually shows up on the ears a little more than other places.

Bookending like this actually makes the colors seem brighter- mostly because you're never actually mixing the complimentary colors together.

Very nicely done. The game should be quite fun, and all the better to play with great looking minis!
