Hi all

Just a quick one. In the UK can anyone recommend a good metallic blue acrylic paint that would dry brush well?

Thanks

ive looked, and colored metallics allways look like crap to me, I use wash overtop of silvery metallics to create effects like you are describing.

I remember using some citadel metallic blue many many many years ago, looked alright I thought. I will give both those a try.

Thanks.

I can't find the site I saw it on, but there are powder acrylic additives you can use to give any acrylic paint an anodized, metallic look. They don't effect the color, no lightening or some such, only adding the "glittering" effect that metallics are known for. Search for metallic or anodized acrylic mediums, and see what you can find (I just tried, and I can't).

Otherwise, I would check out some of the metallic airbrush paints.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I add an iridescent medium from Vallejo to make paints metallic. Still google metallica.

Vallejo do a metallic blue in their Air range. No idea how it would look drybrushed though.

Coat D'Arms do a metallic blue called "Enchanted Blue" (not be confused with the GW verision). They used to do the paints for Citadel, way, WAY back, but their paints lasted too long in the pot so they had to switch to the hexagonal abominations. It should be as good to drybrush as any metallics.

Black Hat Miniatures are the main supplier: £2 for 18ml, or you can get it from Maelstrom Games for £1.80.

I mixed Regal blue with boltgun metal for my Libbys armour. It turned out ok. Maybe Boltgun or chainmail washed by Asurman blue wash could work as well maybe? Just a thought.

I wanted to make some WFB duelists look like they had iridescent silks and mithril silver followed by inks worked fine. I put a couple layers of black ink on after the colour, but silver then colour looked pretty good.

Glazing a normal metallic paint could work quite nice. Or for the more skilled NMM. A for stockists, I have always relied on glazes for mine.

I remember seeing a guide on what metallics looked like washed, I cant remember where though. I will look.

Aha, found it!

I'd say go with a nice solid basecoat of mithril silver, then repeated washes of asurmen blue until you get the richness of blue you desire. Then shade with asurmen blue:badab black mix, drybrush with mithril again for highlights.
