So I've been excited for Super Dungeon Explore since GenCon 2010.

I became even more excited when Soda Pop announced they would have SDE at GenCon 2011 for sale.

My excitement waned when I found out that they wouldn't have copies for sale, but you'd be able to preorder.

GenCon 2011 got me amped up again with the game demo, so I popped down my Franklin on a pre-order, with the understanding from SodaPop that they'd be shipping pre-orders "around the end of August."

I got an email saying that the they'd ship early September. Okay, I could handle a week or two later.

Today I got an email saying that SDE wouldn't even be shipping until November 7th. I'm really disappointed and I'm cancelling my pre-order. I'll order the game again sometime online when I know it's in stock.

Sad day.

I remember playing it at PAX Prime 2010 and being excited. I agree it has been delayed far too much. I am at the point where maybe one day I will get it when it comes out. Not a for sure purchase anymore though.

I would be very into it if the minis were pre painted. Game looks fun, but I have enough armies, squads, etc on the table to paint, dont really have time for more.

Whats my game?

Not news or rumours, and your canceling your pre order to order it again....ok.

I'm sorry, but it is news. The Pre-Orders will now no longer be shipping until November 7th. This is about a month later than they had previously said the retail copies would ship.

Hence, news.

Thanks Alpharius. I was just so sad when I got the email :(

Like I said in the original, I still want to get it....but I'd rather buy it from an LGS now that I'm not going to be getting it any time soon. I sincerely hope that Soda Pop is more on point at GenCon 2012, as I really like their products.

I was/am very interested in this, too, but lost track of it when I didn't hear anything... I wonder why it's taken so long to get it out? There was a lot of excitement about it, and that's just lost sales / momentum...

Mold problems, rules problems, administration/logistics problems, or what?

Probably all of the above.

There's a lot that goes into the creation of a board game as opposed to just a few miniatures like they've been releasing before. There's printing all the various pieces, and rules books, getting miniatures sculpted, C&Ced into metal molds for plastic casting, then finally the packaging, which is usually manual labor.

I'd bet they're having issues with overseas (aka China) production, as there's lots of communication, legal, and quality control issues when producing there. But, that's still the place to go to get something like board games produced.

The email I got said it was a printing issue with a few of the cards. IMO they should have shipped the pre-order and then fixed the cards, sending pre-order folk the replacement cards. Just one dude's opinions, though.

I'm not sure you realize how much of a cost that would be cincy.

It's likely they caught onto the card printing issue when they received the first production examples. So, upon seeing that, they decided to delay and have the factory change it to be the right quality instead of going ahead to order the wrong print run.

If they had went ahead and ordered, it would be extra time and money spent sending out new packs of cards to every one of their pre-orders, not to mention every distributor and store that bought a copy to sell.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad that they are not rushing the release *cough*finecast*cough* but sad that I have to wait yet another month.

Got the email too. Sad that it's delayed, but I'd really rather get the best product possible than get it a month earlier but it not being right.

I've seen the big headed little guys for it. I was a little interested.

They are not half bad.

Aww - that does suck. I've not preordered or anything, but I am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Now I can ask for it for Christmas though!

And you only turn sixty once! How about some finecast with complementary tools to fill the super-deformed void?

Significantly younger than that... anyway, moving on.

I wanted to play the Druid for no other reason than it would allow me to turn into Angry Bear.

Too bad about the delay. I'm looking forward to this, but certainly not in any sort of a rush for it. Additionally, as M4M's said, I have enough stuff laying around wanting to be painted, that I would have actually gasp preferred this as a pre-paint.

I agree on the pre-paint thing. I'm a horrid painter and painting them in a proper super-deformed anime style is going to be really tough to pull off for me.

So, I have absolutely no idea about the mechanics of this game.
Can anyone point me to a thread where it discusses the flow of game play or, failing that, tell us here?

Thanks.

It plays somewhat like Legend of Zelda/Dungeons and Dragon the mini game.

You get your heroes controlled by someone, and you get your bad guys controlled by someone else. You each move and explore a dungeon and fight etc. There are bosses as well. When you defeat an enemy it may drop potions/hearts items akin to Zelda.

I played it one year ago though, may have changed since that time.

Take a look at Soda Pop's site ... they have demo rules for SDE available for download.
