I am fairly new to 40k and need all the help I can get. I currently have the BA battle force and was looking to build a DoA list.

MrEconomics helped me with this list.

HQ: Librarian with Jump Pack 125
EL: 2 Sanguinary Priests with Jump Packs, 1 without Jump Pack 200
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist 235
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist 235
TR: 10 Assault Marines, 2 Flamers, Power Weapon 215
TR: 5 Scouts with 4 Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Camo Cloaks 100
HS: 5 Devastators, 4 Missile Launchers 130
HS: 5 Devastators, 4 Missile Launchers 130
HS: 5 Devastators, 4 Missile Launchers 130

This army will be built in small chunks and probably won't find the table in full force until probably Jan. 2012.

Use the DC to build assault marines.
I like it.

I am always tempted to bring an honour guard with _ guns just in case things get hairy.
Same with Venguard/sang. guard just to give you a real cc threat.

The devastators have problems in a DoA list unless they are mounted in drop pods or something similar. They go against the type of list it is since they are static. Plus if they start on the board then they will take all of the fire from everything until assault squads start showing up. The same thing happens with the scout squad.

Vanguard veterans add in nicely and give a surprise assault that can tie up a unit in the backfield that sits around and snipes your guys coming in. Also, if you give them melta bombs you can take out a land raider that's sitting around or a manticore that's blasting at you.

VV would be 185 with 4 MBs and jump packs. Replace the scouts and a dev squad and you have another mobile tank busting unit. A TH can be added for additional power as well.

In my opinion you'll get a big problem with terminators or Mephiston...
I like the Sanguinary guard because this troop is immune against 'fear of the darkness' or other morale tests and the guard kills almost every space marine unit...
But: The SG is not so robust as termis. So you'll have to hide them behind some line-of-sight-blockers. But if you have learned how to handle them then they are a very good improvement!

Hope I could help you and sorry for some grammatical mistakes (English isn't my mother tongue )

Rogueeyes, I like the vanguard vets. I had them as part of my first list because I heard they go great w/ DoA. I will look into the adding and subtracting of different units. I think the VV would be more useful than one of the Dev squads...

Marneus,

I think where I am at (a newbie) the SG would be a little much for me to handle. I have heard a lot about adding Mephiston. I've toyed w/ the idea but I guess I haven't read the codex enough times to really decide on an HQ.

I don't see what the Sanguinary Priest without the Jump Pack will be able to do. If he is deployed with the Devastators or Scouts, I don't think his bonuses will really make much of a difference against any units that would be sent to Assault them early in the game, and you would want him near your own Assaulting units later in the game. I would try to find points for the Jump Pack somewhere, or just drop him altogether. (The only place that I see to drop points without making a big change to the list is either losing a unit of Scouts or Devastators, and then maybe adding a few more Marines to the Devastator Squads to take some Wounds.

Devs in the back with a priest in a razorback work fairly well in a DoA list. FnP makes them much more survivable.

You don't need the Scouts. 3rd Assault unit would be better with Fist and Meltas like the first two. Consider Infernus Pistols with the remaining points.

There are a few things you can do. you can drop the scouts add in another assault unit. you can add a vanguard vet unit which is a must imho. I i wont play unless i have them. they have saved me a few times. Id stay away from dc they area a huge point sink esp. when they get jump packs. and they are non scoring. a selling point on Vanguard vets they can charge after deep striking. great for tying up mech. at 1500 you will vs mech lists. are they expensive? yeah they are but they usually make up there points. i wouldnt buy the actual vanguard vets id mod other marines to look like them 45-50 bucks for 5 marines is blah. a like dc would be good Hersey armour would be good. studded shoulder pads. purity seals up the wahzoo.

Good...Bad... Im the guy with the, GUN!

Could I just paint my tactical squad from my battle force like my assault squad and count them as my assaults? Maybe get some shoulder pads for my death company and let them be assault also? Just trying to be the most cost effective.

Edit: My friends said I could paint them as DC and just do count-as. My Army just won't be wysiwyg

I had to start somewhere. I did 5 marines last night. I think they look okay for my first try. I was taught how to dry brush so its all new to me.

Start with the assault marines, you'll be leaving your tacs in the back of your drawer like a shameful secret soon

Tactical Marines would be useful as special weapon dudes, especially if you magnetize them.

The models I have so far.

10 - Tactical Marines
5 - Death Company (thinking of just painting these up as assault marines)
5 - Veteran Vanguards
11 - Assault Marines

Is there any more suggestions on this list? The more the better... I would love to use my VV squad. Really planning on painting up my DC as AMs...

Would the Sanguinary priest and librarian be on the top of the list of things to buy next? This army is a slow, model by model, army.

Tactical marines will be USELESS.

Grab some spare jump packs from ebay or something, and make them into assault marines. You will need assault marines with tac marine arms anyway, to hold bolters / melta guns / flamers.

As far as the sanguinary priest... I imagine you can just buy an apothecary arm and helmet off ebay and call it a day, unless you wanna go in for the whole blood angels cup of healing doodad. (Stupid fluff IMO).

The libby should be high priority. They don't make a jump pack librarian, but you can just buy one and slap a jump pack on him. Here's my Blood Angels Librarian as an example:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/290144-Librarian.html

Remember, you don't have to use any models for anything you don't want, as long as you have proper wargear. I'm using these for Sanguinary Guard:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/290431-Sanguinary%20Guard.html

I'll do similar to vanguard. As long as your opponent can easily tell what they are supposed to be, you can use any conversion to represent something.

I played a game of 500 points, ended up using 460 pts. I won! I was kind of surprised. I can't wait to play some more!

I picked up a Librarian and my scout squad last night.

Brother Corbulo, any thoughts? I was reading uo on characters last night and he seemed like a good addition.

tbh when starting with a DoA list start at small points make a 800-1000 core and build on it. Make absolutely sure that you tactically can handle most opposition. Heres my 800 tourney which actually is remarkably close to yours http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/412636.page

Right now, I am 1-1-1. My win and tie were against white scars at 1000. My loss was to orks at 1000. I think I need to get some more anti-heavy guys.
