Greetings all!
I've been lurking for a little while reading threads and articles, and decided it was time to register and contribute every now and then. I'm from the Chicago area and play down at the Chicago Battle Bunker in Lombard as it's just down the street from me.
The first
40K bug hit back around 2003 or so, and I collected right around 3000 points of Imperial Guard, including a full armoured company. Then I decided I really wanted to play some bad guys and collected right around 2500 points of Tyranids. Then after a move across the country, I put
40K aside for several years and only got back into it within the last couple of weeks after some friends went hogwild with it. So, I blew the dust off the bugs and headed down to the Bunker to find out that I was REALLY behind the times and lots of changes had been made to the game since I played last. But I viewed that more as a challenge than an aggravation, and set about relearning the rules and what my Tyranids could do.
I've been wargaming since the late 80s when I was in high school, and I just come play for the fun of it. I don't believe that there's a bad army in the
40K universe, only people who don't know how to play them to their full potential. I don't have the treehouse syndrome (Which is when we pull the hobby ladder up and don't want anyone else on board now that we're here), and I take the time to help newer and younger players get into the hobby so that they can fully enjoy it. If you trounce a new or younger player, they get frustrated and could leave the hobby. The only time I bring out the stomping boots is when my opponent is really talking smack about how he's unbeatable with his Army and then we see what he can do against 40+ Genestealers swarming all over him. While I love talking about what my various creatures have the POTENTIAL to do, I don't brag about how I can mop the floor with any player around. I don't want to play with those kinds of people anyway. I don't mind losing games as long as I make it expensive for you to win, and we walk away from the gaming table with a laugh and a handshake. The biggest compliment I could get if I lose a game? "You really had me worried there for a while."
If you see me down at the Battle Bunker, don't be afraid to come up to me and say hello. I don't bite, am quite friendly most of the time, and I'll be one of only a very few who play 'Nids down there.
Cheers!
