In Imperial Armour 9, there was an HQ released that allowed Space Marines to have Devastator Squads as troops and Heavy weapon teams.
In a perfect world, I want a GK HQ that allows Purgation Squads as heavy and troop choices. preferably a character like a Brotherhood Champion or a Grey Knight in artificer or Power armour.
If this existed, I could see a huge shift from purifier teams. Id use maybe 2 teams of 4 psycannons + justicar, 1 5man team of halberds/hammers and psybolt (with the hq) and have 2 5man GKSS for warp rift, a 10 man, 2 psycannons, 2 hammers and 6 halberd purifiers and a psyflemen dread and a asscannon dread. (everyone in power armour will be in a transport whether its rhino or razorback). I wouldnt care what point limit that would be in, I would love it to death.

You can always make purgation units scoring via Grand Strategy.

With purifier troops, you never need purgation troops. Purifiers are just so much better.

Consider for 140pts, you can get a 5-man purifier unit with 2 psycannons. For the same 140pts, you also can get a 5-man purgation squad with 2 psycannons. However, with the purifiers, you get Cleansing Flame, fearlessness and 2 Attacks base each. Why bother with purgation squads at all? The only good use of a purgation unit is 5-man, 4-incinerator squads in a psybolt razorback.

Im not talking about having a GM make them scoring, I want Purge teams at troop choices. Astrial aim is absolutely wonderful and it promotes a shootier army. GK is by all definition a shootie army (with little assault).
I am just pointing out Space Marines have an HQ that makes Dev. Squads troops, I just want the GK equivilant to have that choice too.
PS 16 Str 7 shot from a 5 man team is great. I would have that as the bulk of a list but Purifiers are still good too. They would be my assault half.
Anyways, I like that Purge teams can get the Psycannons without needing to buy extra troops. Then spam the crap out of astral aim.

I don't know which hq that is in the sm codex. are you sure you aren't getting it confused with another dex? could you source that?

On topic: it sounds like an alright idea, got any stat lines cooked up?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Its a Imperial Armour HQ from Badab War part 2 I believe (if not part 1)
Statlines, no idea. There are no HQs that are not in terminator armour other than Brotherhood champions. It seems weird to have an assaulting HQ allow more shooty units.

PS. The SM HQ allows dev. squads as elite and heavy units, but still works out well. (2 purge teame, 1 purifier 3 dreads 2 gkss and the hq seems like a decent 1850ish list)

Oh cool, that sounds like a pretty cool idea, the purge teams as elites.

Is the SM guy from badab as well?

Wouldn't that make him evil?

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

The SM who gave Dev squads as elite as well as heavy was Zhurkal Androcles of the Star Phantoms from Badab War pt 2.
The GK version doesnt exist for those who may have interpreted otherwise, but I can still dream.

Grey Knight Grand Masters already do the effect of this.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

They do not and dont even think of trying to say otherwise.
Grandmaster do not make units into troops. They make other units scoring as if they were troops.
The purpose I want them for is so I can fill the mandatory force organization slot of troops while having a more desired unit.

To bad purgators suck so much nobody ever uses them:(
Thus what's the point in making them scoring?

Maybe and I mean maybe if their psycannons only cost 5p each on them I would start to consider taking a squad now and then despite it taking up a very valuable heavy slot but that is also a big maybe.

I am just pointing out that Purgators have a great ability and I think that they would be more used if they were not a heavy support choice. The cost of Psycannons seems much, but it pays for itself to have 16 shots that dont need LoS.
The reason behind this thread is just to merely state I want a way to have Purgators as a different unit choice. I dont care about having them as scoring, I just want to have more of a reason to use them. If they were troops i wouldnt need GKSS. I would maybe use GKSS but only for Warp Rift, but still. The basis of my list would be purgators and dreads.
Purgators have great potential as a unit, but they are underlooked and underestimated and unappreciated. As a troop/elite, it would make a world of difference.

Tatcial Squads and the like are not very good for holding objectives because they either have to give up their bolters and spcial weapons for the single shot of the Heavy, or split in half, and make the Objective holding half easir to kill. Having Devs and their equivilents holding objectives maens that you can just stay still and fire many weapons, while not losing too much.

Yeah but they dont reach anything meaning the opponent is left with the initiative as he, not you, decides if he wants to get closer and be shot at.
You pay even more for the purgators in the form of means to increase their reach, be it by transport or means of deepstrike etc...

They are just not worth it.
