Hmm, appears it is same as last year, except the glue is a new format. Price is USD $247.50. Anyone remember the list price last year?

Price is £155 UK which is £5 more than last year. But then the £150 Realm of battle board went up by a fiver due to the VAT increase.
So essentially the same price bar tax!

I'm not a big fan of citatel brushes, and I would never use many of the colors included in this set. I'd much rather spend money on paints I'll actually use rather than getting one of every color in their range.

+1 Agree. Most likely the paints will just dry up before I even get a chance to use them all
Also ,the $413 AUD is prohibitively expense. $247.50USD seems like a much better deal (would be around the same, or a bit cheaper in AUD), but even then I would just only buy the paints as I need them.

I was fortunate to pick up a REALLY REALLY old version of this, including some paints from other manufacturers as extra, still usable, as a door prize at a tourney. It even had ork green ink!

Yeah, I got the previous one at 20% discount.

Quite a handy set for those like me picking the hobby again and finding most of your old paints have turned to jelly.

Personally i find the brushes more that adequate and having every colour is nice in that I can follow painting guides and know I already have all the colours.

Does this new set come in a metal case or the plastic one?

Generally speaking, this sort of product isn't for us. It's for people that are somewhat new to the hobby, or those who are cashed up and only buy from their local GW or only buy GW products. For many of us there are other brands and the like - I just ordered the Vallejo Opaque Paint set via Maelstrom's sale to replace most of my foundation paints, which while very good have mostly turned to stone in the GW pots. - Which will cost me a fraction of the cost of replacing them with the GW once once again...

But hey, good for GW and those people who are in the situation where it's what they're after.

I'd like to buy one of these. It's a pretty big discount from buying the contents seperately, and I quite like GW paints, especially the latest revision of the paint pots which seems to have finally got it right.

Citadel brushes have also improved a lot from the time I last used one, I got one in a starter set last year, and it's a good brush, just the right size, hasn't splayed and has held up well.

Now if only they'd release the thing at some time *other* than Xmas each year, I always want one but never have enough spare £££ lying around at this time of year to pick it up.

For what it's worth this should be available from discounters as well. I know I got mine for 20% off, but then again got the Mrs to buy if as a present for me. I'm not sure if that means I bought it or not?

I don't really see why you would buy this. Buy 2/3rds of the paints included (I don't imagine anyone will need every single colour produced), a couple W&N fine brushes and maybe a cheapo big tank-sized brush, some PVA, super glue and basing kits from other manufacturers, and a plastic box with dividers from the hardware store. Should come out to far less. I can sort of see how someone would take it just to say they had everything at their fingertips, but man. I don't want to use any of GW's supplies besides the paint and plastic glue, I can find better alternatives elsewhere for cheaper.

This kit is for people with more money than sense.

^ Tone it down, jeez. It is possible for people to have opinions that don't match your own without being maniacs cackling and drooling while throwing their mountains of cash into a bonfire, you know.

And, you can disagree without insulting the intelligence of everyone who has the opposing viewpoint. After all, why leave it there, why not say anyone who buys *anything* from GW has more money than sense?

We've been through this same hyberbolic thing with the RoB board from GW, people calling people idiots for buying it when "they could go down B+Q and buy a few planks of MDF for £20 instead".

Fact of the matter is, if you do want every GW paint (and it is *is* possible to want to at least have the option of using the entire range at your disposable), this set both offers a bulk discount on it's contents and a handy container for everything to go in.

This is the deal-killer for me. I'm always tempted by this, and although I do have some W&N brushes, I like the GW too for some stuff. It's a good package - it comes with 73 paints, which would cost $270 if you got them at $3.70 apiece. You're essentially getting the paint for 10%ish off and everything else in the package for free.

At the end of the day, though, I can't justify buying paints with a finite lifespan that I might use super-rarely, to the point they'd potentially dry up before they got used. I'm simply too slow of a painter who uses a very limited palette anyway.

I agree. I can see this being quite a good gift for someone who loves painting and just started the hobby.

Not about the RoB thing though. That's just a bad product that should not exist.

Probably because your subjective opinion about the quality of paint is your opinion--and not everyone likes using eyedroppers.

yeah,
I bought 2 of the old mega paint sets when it was in a different box with plastic trays.
Basically once a year work or so I out which paints are dying and replace those.
So I think buying a mega paint set is a great idea.

But I'm not sold in keeping paints in layers of foam though, that seems weird.

I really don't get your problem with the ROBB, you say you hate boring boards that lack terrain, yet have a problem with the ROBB hills... your starting to sound quite boring... every single person who's played on mine has loved it!

Well said scarletsquig, I would also add that once you get it at discount then you would be hard pressed to get 80% of that amount of stuff for a similar price.

It's over kill on most of your needs but pretty good value nonetheless.

Would be nice to replenish a lot of my older paints in one fell swoop.. but, I really don't like the new lids that don't stay up :( some do, and some don't, it's hella annoying :( I've been switching over to Vallejo because of it, but paint wise I think I still like Citadel better. I like to drybrush a lot, and vallejo tends to be more watery.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

If you want good value and quality for GW paints buy either:

1. Foundation range. - I have to admit they do their job.

or

2. Tag sealed hexagonal pot containers. - Good luck finding them.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

only problem is, the paint is 75% more expensive than their competition, so even at this price it is over priced

Wait... $413 AUD, now I see why you guys are a little bit angry with GW. And I thought I would strangle the dude in charge of prices for charging me a random extra $40 CAD!

Personally I prefer GW paints over vallejo as they are thicker, meaning I can thin them if I want, however, vallejo is pretty handy for mixing.

I have never actually used GW brushes (apart from an old starter set one) but have heard some decent reviews of them. On closer inspection I do not see any that are small enough for the detail work that I need them for.

Very useful kit, complete with a handy box that I would probably use to store minis!

What's with the angst? Other than the price of course. My partner and I were looking at getting one of these sets over a year ago (before GW decided that the Southern Hemisphere was evil and must be punished).

We have more paints that will fit in our current case (oh look, this comes with a new case), we have different armies so we both use different colours and I'm sick of having to wait to get into a store to pick up a new paint because "I need just a smidgen of this here" and I use citadel paints for everything including RP props because they're good. The only ones we have a problem with is light colours that are several years old. Two drops of acrylic paint thinner makes them usable until you can get a new pot. Oh no! We occasionally need to replace a five year old paint for $6!!

Brushes are a very personal thing. Some people love Citadel brushes, other people can't stand them. That's the way it goes. It's not a catch-all.

But being in Aus, the price of this set makes it prohibitive for us, anyway.

Yeah, I'm such a dumbarse myself. You know, I went down to my local GW 2 weeks ago and bought a pot of that Liquid greenstuff as well as the resin brush/mould line scraper. What a moron I am! I should have gone online and researched, then ordered essentially the same products from alternate companies for less, plus postage, taking it to a similar cost, and waited 2-3 weeks for them to arrive.

I don't buy GW paint anymore, I use CDA and Vallejo. No idea what brand my brushes are. Every so often I just go to a hobby/model store and buy a bunch of new ones. But I don't disparage others from going in and buying the big paint set off the shelf. Good for them. I might think the GW paints are sub-par overall, but it's not my problem if others want to use them, I still use my own GW paints until they run out.
