I can't decide weather or not i want to collect a Tyranid army or a Dark Eldar army. I think both are pretty neat and I like the ideas of each of the army's. What do you all think would be more competitive? For dark eldar I do not intend in buying raiders as i think they are tacky.

Dark Eldar are stronger.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I have played Tyranids for over 10 years, and just started Dark Eldar myself.

Dark Eldar is a very unforgiving army to play, you have to be careful with what you do because they cant take much punishment. But in return they are able to hit hard and fast.

Tyranids on the other hand are able to take a lot of damage, and still be a threat to your opponent. They are faster than most armies, and have those awesome big monsters who can brake through almost anything.

In my opinion the Nids aren't as good as they used to be after the new codex, but I still like them, and they are still able to bring a lot of hurting to the table.

I also think the DE are a bit harder to play, cause you aren't allowed to make that many mistakes with them. But still, they are a lot of fun!

So if this is your starting army in 40k, I would go with Tyranids. If not, I would probably go for Dark Eldar. But both are really awesome armies, and you will have a blast playing either way.

Honestly, for your first Army I would probably go with 'Nids. I think most complaints people throw around about the poor bugs is that the current meta does not suit them very well.

If you don't want to include any Raiders then your Dark Eldar army would be in real trouble (unless you don't mind using Venoms?). They really depend on their speed, taking that away would make them into a pretty poor army.

If you want to start DE but without Raiders then you would be playing small-unit Venom spam lists, so you really have to ask yourself how much you like Venoms. Do you love them? Then maybe you can roll with DE.

That said, if you don't like Raiders I'm guessing you don't like Ravagers either, as they're pretty much the same model. Then you're even more screwed. You would have to take a Razorwings and stuff as many blasters on everything else as possible (for ultra-competitive-ness) or sit back a bit with a Webway portal list.

If you are playing for fluff and fun = NIDS

If you are playing competively = DE venom spam

I've always loved the Nid fluff, and they're very fun. I just..hate what they did to the poor Carnifex.

Go with nids, they are great fun, less people play then now, and they are dirt cheap on the secondary market.
