Wondering what everyone thinks of the new necron rules or what we know of so far. I personally think the av13 vehicles until first pen is pretty ridiculous. Needing anti tank weaponry to take out both tanks and transports is just absurd. Also seems like they somewhat cover the same niche of the tau being a shooty army except do it much much better and even have some combat units to boot.

No, not really. They certainly have some new toys, but right now, I'm not seeing a whole lot that bounces them far up the tiers in 5th. You mentioned the quantum shielding, but I don't think it's that great unless the transport is 50ish points, not 70+. I also think Necrons are still going to suffer in the anti-tank department. They still have Heavy Destroyers and got the new Barge, but the Annihilation barge's cannon is a large blast(scatter 3ish inches in any direction makes the shot useless against vehicles). They supposedly also get a melta-weapon on a walker, but it's going to be a target.
I'd need to see some stats on the new stuff, but it also seems that Necrons will still get murdered in CC to easily too.

Nope. they don't look OP but they look better than they were. Also, anti-tank units required to take out vehicles? Say it ain't so! You need decent anti tank to stop transports anyway; you'll do better blowing up rhinos with missile launchers than with heavy bolters. Besides, the Necron transports are open topped.

I'm predicting Tesla/Scarab Spam being a pretty win combo.
OP though? I don't think so. I think the only real OP army right now could be considered IG. The power of that codex is only held in check by peoples wallets.
Necrons are shaping up to be good but I see nothing that indicates OP.

A solid mid-tier army I'd say. For example, a lot of their army will be footslogging due to points-intensive transports. Rather amazing when you compare the costs of a rhino or chimera to a Ghost Ark, and compare what you GET for that cost.

To be quite honest as of now, they look interesting on paper, but they don't look op. Though it was pointed out that this codex was made with 6th edition rules in mind and that the full potential of this codex won't be seen until 6th edition is released. Til then they at least seem worth looking into.

I could see this as well, depending on how expensive the other transport is(not the ghost arc). Or finding room for 1 or 2 units to have a transport just to get them in to range. In conjunction with Imotekh's night fighting ability you could get a good bit of your forces with range with minimal casualties while dropping lightning bolts as opposed to the flat out everything strategy that i've been seeing a lot of lately. Also no transports means more points for infantry or tanks. I wish I could have the 240pts it costs me in my GK rhions so I could put it into more models!

when will 6th edition be coming out? If they designed this codex to be used more so for that edition, why not wait a little longer or would they be bringing out the 6th edition soon?
Also, I was a little confused when I was reading about the quantum shield. Does it mean that the armour rateing is actually at 13 instead of the 11 that it states it as being?

Not to mention there are several people in this thread who are already getting units and rules wrong, from the information we have.
For instance, Quantum shielding only effects the fronts and Sides of the Vehicle. Keep in mind it is open topped, so a Glance has a chance to kill it.

For now no, but listening to Matt Ward interview makes me fell they will be OP in GK level or worse. I mean, Matt said that the best way to defeat them is to try to tear them in melee, and that will pose some trouble for Tau and IG.

Of course he's going to make them sounds tougher then they really are. He wrote the book and he's advertising new models.
And it's good to see that there's still some who think GK are OP despite heavy evidence to the contrary....

First off all, you have to close in on the Necrons to kill them. Not only that they have big firepower now to bring with them against everything they now have this Trazyn who can kill entire Ork mob ( 20 - 30 units ) in one blow ( similar to chain lightning ).
Second off all, even if you get close enough they are tough and have tough armor.
Third off all, then what will shoot army's do then? Space Marines, Eldar and Chaos have melee specialist but what about Tau who have all it's army for range ( Kroot are more cannon foder then fighting force )?
They already look a little OP to me, but I will not say anything until I see codex myself. Automatically Appended Next Post: GangstaMuffin24 wrote:

Right, and having an army that is all 2+ armor save, melee specialist with psychic powers and plasma resistant armor. Who wield teleporting walkers and lot of psycanons is not OP at all ( sarcasm ).

The only thing that looks worrying is the Stormlord guy. Anything that can just inflict his on anything on the table (especially S8 hits on vehicle side armor) simply by existing on the table (requiring zero strategy/command ability/player interaction/LoS/Range/etc to be useful) is never good game design or balance.
That said, as much as I can say without the book in my hands, it doesn't appear to be the new FOTM power army.

My personal opinion;
-The new crons will do well against guard, virtue of multiple turns of night fighting and scarab spam.
-The new crons will do badly against BA and Puppies, virtue of fast combat combat/counter attack/Acute Senses/Thunderwolves.
-The new crons will do average against Dark Eldar, because of lances, combat and night vision, but need to fear volume of fire.
Just initial impressions; likely to be totally wrong.

Exactly! GK are not overpowered. Everyone else are just underpowered.
But as for crons.. having MEQ models for 15pts (estimate cost from WD) with better Ld (lower I tho) and S5 AP4 guns with possibility to come back from the dead.. They might be close to GK level.

First off, only terminators have a 2+ save not the entire army. While it is possible to make an all terminator army from the GK book, not everyone does and it's not even the best build.
Not sure where plasma resistant armor comes from...AP2 deals with even the aforementioned terminators. Teleporting walkers don't even exist. I assume you are refering to Dreaknights which are MCs and that " OP" teleporter is 75 pts.
And as for psycannons...it's really the only solid ranged AT option GK have unless you take henchmen.
Maybe you've only heard things from the internet or just read the codex, but believe me when I say that GK are beatable. That's not to say they're weak, but they are by no stretch over-powered.
Sorry to derail the thread.
